Two Years!

Silas and Mama - June 29, 2008
Silas and Baba - June 29, 2008
You were frightened, scared and shut down that hot afternoon in Datong. You had no idea what was happening. You screamed when we walked outside. The guide told us you had not been outside.
Look at you now - new ear and all!June 2010

Silas,
I can't believe you have been our son for two years! Our first year together was about surviving. You were learning how to survive with a mommy and daddy and in a family. We were learning to survive with a very active little boy who had experienced more in your first two years than we will ever know. Our second year together has been more about thriving as a family. We have had rough seasons and seasons of great joy! You have learned to accept our love and are starting to heal. Through it all, I love you and always will. I thank God that we stepped out in faith to adopt you. I cannot imagine life without our Si-guy!
Love,
Mommy

More CA fun

Sister's having fun at the beach! The girls, especially Madelyn, loved the beach. Madelyn had fun finding muscles in the water. Below, Silas had fun digging in the sand.
Jason getting some R & R
The Manhattan Beach Pier - we could see it from our place and walked on it countless times. It was a good place to watch all the surfers in the ocean.
A view down the beach. This was on Father's Day when it was busy. It was cool and windy. I kept a towel over me most of the day!
Beach Beauty
Jason enjoying a cold one of Father's Day. This was on our deck at the house. It had a great ocean view!
Friends of ours from church were in LA one weekend while we were there. We met them at the Santa Monica Pier and had dinner. It was fun to see people from home. Our kids are the almost the same exact ages - everyone has someone to play with! Silas starting early with the girls! I think it looks like a prom picture of something - this pose was all on their own, we did not pose them!

Amazing!

Silas with Dr. Reinisch

I've got lost more pictures and posts to do of our trip when we get home. Today we are going to go back to The Grove and look around, maybe see Toy Story 3, walk on the beach and pack. Tomorrow we head home bright and early! We've had a great time here and are looking forward to coming back in December.

Disneyland

Wednesday and Friday we went to Disney! We had a great time. We ended up buying a 4 day pass because it was cheaper than buying individual tickets for 2 days. This way we have 2 more days we can use when we come back in December for Silas' second surgery. DL is smaller than Disneyworld. Some of the rides are the same and some were different. We stayed and watched the fireworks both nights - they were beautiful! Silas had fun, the second day he was excited and had trouble but by the afternoon had calmed down. Since he had just had surgery we were able to get a handicap pass. It was so helpful. We were able to keep the stroller with us while we waited in line like a wheelchair and also some rides were able to go through the handicap line which was much shorter! It made the days much more enjoyable for all of us since Silas would not have felt like standing in lines all day.
The castle - much smaller than the one in DW, but still pretty

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day Jason! You are such a wonderful dad to our kids. You are fun, work hard to provide for us, help me with everything and love us so much. We appreciate you! I hope you have a great day today. We all love you!

Tuesday - American Doll!!

Tuesday was a much anticipated day in our house! The girls have been looking forward to visiting the AG doll store for months. We had an 11:00 reservation for lunch and it worked out great. The store was so adorable. Everything was displayed nicely and the girls loved walking through (several times!) just taking it all in. My parents had given them each money to buy a new doll and Jason and I gave them each a smaller amount to spend. We told them their limit before they shopped, otherwise we could have spent thousands!

The store is located in a very nice outdoor shopping area called The Grove in Beverly Hills. It was so pretty. I am hoping we can go back again and eat somewhere outside. Here, they have valet parking in parking garages! The parking garage had a red carpet and curtains hanging! All Beverly Hills parking garages are like this - super fancy and nice. Also super expensive to park! Even the one at the doctor's office has valet and the do not give you free parking.

Anyway, back to AG. Lunch was great. They brought CJ a dairy free menu with lots of choices, the service was good, food yummy and it was incredibly cute inside the cafe. Madelyn's b-day is coming up and they even celebrated by singing to her! It was her dream to celebrate her b-day there, when they brought dessert they asked if anyone was having a birthday. I told them not that day but in a couple weeks and they gave her a candle and sang. She was happy.

After lunch we told the girls they could look/shop as long as they wanted. We looked and looked and looked! They found the dolls they wanted and then debated long and hard about what to spend the rest of their money on. The ended up choosing to get their dolls ears pierced. Caroline also choose a hospital kit (she has been eying this in the catalog for months). Madelyn choose Lanie's accessory kit. We also got the girls t-shirts. They are finished with souvenir shopping for the trip!

It was a fun day and Silas enjoyed himself too. Thankfully he is only 3 and didn't mind being surround by a sea of pink and dolls all day. He enjoyed seeing all of the dolls and had fun looking at everything. He was the only little boy in the cafe though!

Monday

Monday we had a nice laid back day. Alyssa left and we all missed her! Silas had a rough day, he was just grumpy. He was starting to feel better, but was still sore. He had an appointment early in the afternoon to have his drains removed. It was very simple and only took about 10 minutes. He was a great patient as usual. We came back home and chilled. Later in the afternoon we took a walk down to the beach and pier which is about 2 blocks from our beach house. We are staying in an apartment on the top of a building. It is really perfect for us. Two bedrooms, one bath, a kitchen, living room and eating area. It also has a nice roof top deck with a great ocean view. It is chilly here! It's 60 - 70 degrees and by the ocean there is always a cool breeze blowing. I wish I would have packed more warmer clothes!
The view from our place as we are walking to the beach
"The Strand" We have learned Manhattan Beach where we are staying is a VERY nice town and VERY expensive!! This is a walking path right by the beach. It is lined with multi-million dollar homes. It is always full of runners and walkers and it a really beautiful place to exercise! There is also a separate bike bath a little closer to the sand. It is for bikers only. Our place came with 2 bikes. Jason rode 11 miles the other day! I haven't gotten to try it out yet, but hope to.
View of the town from the pier. As we were walking back we saw a seal several times. It was so neat!

Madelyn LOVES the beach. The water is freezing but she doesn't care! She loves playing in the surf and searching for wildlife.
