Father-Daughter Dance

About a month ago, Jason and the big girls went to a Father-Daughter dance that benefited a local pregnancy help center.  The girls enjoyed getting dressed up in their Christmas dresses and going out for a special night with Dad!
Their favorite part of the night was riding from in a hummer limo from the parking area to the dance!
What a special way to show our girls how they should expect to be treated by a boy when they start dating. (Like in 30 years!)
I had fun helping them curl their hair and let them wear just a little makeup so they could look beautiful for Daddy.
I love that this Daddy loves his girls!
Silas, Anna-Grace and I had a quite evening at home.  We ordered pizza and Silas got to pick out a movie that we watched together.  I have a very fun mom/son date planned for April.  I'm looking forward to taking Silas out for a special day then!

20 in 2012 update

1.  Read my "Jesus Calling" book my friend Emily got me for Christmas.  It is awesome so far! Still reading this.  I actually downloaded it on my iPhone last week to make it easier for me.  I also like having it with me all the time to refer to if I need to get my mind refocused.  LOVE this!

2.  Figure out a laundry system for 6 people so I'm not spending all weekend doing laundry.  Ha.  I don't think I will ever be caught up on laundry.  If I was home every day and could do a load or two a day I'd be good.  The small amount of time I am home I have a baby attached (literally) to me.  Hard to do laundry while nursing...  Maybe this can be an end of the year goal once she is a little older. : )

3.  Continue to nurse Anna-Grace for as long as possible.  Goal is the entire year of 2012.  Still going strong!  Proud of myself and Anna-Grace. : )

4.  Give each child 20 minutes alone each week with me.  That doesn't sound like a lot, but with 4, they never have me to themselves.  I was going to write "fail" but decided that was being to hard on myself.  We are just really busy and I'm doing the best I can.

5.  Plan a monthly date night for Jason and I. Again - Ha!  For one, Anna-Grace is attached to me once I'm home from work.  I do not see lots of date nights out of the house in our near future.  Second, my husband is always studying.  Maybe I should be more realistic about this one and say a date night every 3-4 months??

6.  As Anna-Grace grows out of things donate or sell them.  Do not just put them in storage. She has outgrown most of her newborn sized things but I haven't taken them out of her drawers yet.  I do plan to follow through with this.

7.  Try to limit eating out to 1 time per week. We are doing good with this.

8.  Use my crockpot 2-3 nights a week.  Find new recipes for the crockpot. Or 5 nights a week!  Using my crockpot a ton now that I'm back to work.

9.  Read for pleasure.  I've read 6 books so far on maternity leave and need to go back to the library for more! Lol!  I can tell I put this on the list during my maternity leave.  If I had time to read right now I would make it about one sentence before I fell asleep. : )

10.  Continue Silas' counseling - very basic, but another thing to add to the full schedule.  Not happening.  We've had some rough days with Silas lately.  I've been convicted to pray more about his relationship with Jason and I.  If you feel led, we would use some more prayers.  Now that the weather has been nice and he can play outside life has been a little easier.

11.  Memorize 12 bible verses with the kids - one per month. Need to make sure I follow through with this!

12.  Do one fun thing outside the norm with the kids each month.  Bowling, mini-golf, zoo etc. We got frozen yogurt last week - does that count??

13.  Plan fun but simple birthday parties for the kids and make their cakes.  One already done!

14.  Get out in the yard and enjoy working on the landscaping.  I didn't really do this last year being pregnant.

15.  Teach the girls to ride a bike without training wheels.  YES!  Madelyn hopped on her bike and took off a month or so ago.  She rides all around now.

16.  Make homemade baby food.

17.  Spend time with my friends more often.  I really miss my friends. : (

18.  Spend time with my sister more often.  I miss my sister too.  : (

19.  Loose the extra 20 pounds I'm carrying now. Down about 6 pounds from when I first wrote this.
20.  Enjoy life.  When it's crazy remember it is for a season and pray. Making the best of our crazy life.  We are SO blessed and there are so many wonderful moments each day!

Month 3

We are settling into a new routine now that Anna-Grace is 3 months old.  It's not a routine I would ever choose on my own, but for now it must be done.  It's been really hard going back to work.  We are surviving and she is thriving.  She is happy, healthy and growing and that is what is important!

Every morning I get up at 5:15 and shower and get ready for work.  I get AG up (or she wakes up) between 6:00 and 6:15 and I feed her.  Then she and I get the other kids up for school and Jason packs everyone's lunch and makes their breakfast.  I pack my lunch and finish getting her bottles ready and pump every morning.  Usually I take the big girls to school and Jason drops off Silas and AG.  I head to work and Jason heads to school for the day.  After work I rush to pick up AG and Silas.  I miss her so much during the day!!  Of course I miss all my kids, but especially my littlest.  We get home and she usually wants to nurse right away.  I have been trying to put dinner in the crock pot most mornings so we can eat at night.  I definitely do not have time to cook dinner in the evenings and we do not eat out much.  Jason usually finishes the dinner prep while I am feeding her.  After dinner we have a little time to do the girls piano and cello practice or whatever needs to be done.  Then it's bath time and bedtime.  AG wants to nurse again around 8:00 and sometimes will nurse for 45 minutes and then go to sleep, other times she will nurse a short while and then fall asleep.  I can't bear to put her down after being away from her all day, so I usually hold her. : )  I try to wake her up again around 9:30 or 10:00 to feed her one more time before bed.  Then I crash into bed and immediately fall asleep!

Last week she slept five nights in a row without a middle of the night feeding.  It was heavenly!  She is still sleeping in our room - with #4 it is just more convenient and we do not mind having our precious girl right with us.  Her bed is right beside Jason and he can just reach over and put her passy back in during the night.  Notice I said Jason's side of the bed. : ) I have not volunteered to move her to my side...  We have talked about moving her to her own room, but neither of us is quite ready for that.  This week she has had her first little cold and has been more restless.  I have fed her every night so far - maybe not tonight?  Honestly, I don't mind that much.  It gives me one more time to see her and hold her since we are apart so much during the day.

She is a pretty happy little girl but she also has days where she is very fussy.  I cannot seem to put a finger on what causes it.  She needs her sleep just like me and her sisters.  She HATES riding in the car which can be a bad start to the morning or a very rough car ride home after a long day at work.  And when I say hate, I mean bloody murder screaming the entire car ride.  It's awful!  Most days though she is super smiley.  She loves all of us and will "talk" and coo and smile when we talk to her.  We are all just smitten!

A few more things about month 3:
  • She loves bath time!  Tonight I was soaking wet after her bath because she kicks and splashes so much!  The water relaxes her and makes her so happy.  I think she will love swimming this summer.
  • She has been sporting little sundresses that were Madelyn's since it has been in the mid-upper 80's this week.  Crazy March weather!
  • We are trying earnestly to get her to roll over.  The little miss does NOT like being on her tummy and will make it known!  If I position her arm up under her head she can do the rest to get on her back.
  • She is very active and kicks so much!
  • She is very extroverted.  She must be facing out at all times and needs to be part of the group.  We had to bring down her reclining booster seat we bought in place of a high chair to put at the table.  She was not about to be left on the floor in her bouncy while we were eating dinner.  She would scream until one of us picked her up to sit at the table!  Now she happily sits in her booster and watches all of us during dinner.
  • She is still exclusively nursing.  She takes 3 bottles during the day while I am at work and then I feed her 3-4 times.  She knows momma is her food source!!  Pumping at work is going okay.  I do not like pumping, but I know it is best for my girl.
  • She still really likes Madelyn and allows her to hold her and she has even changed a few diapers.  She tolerates Caroline holding her, but she loves when Caroline or Silas talks to her or plays with her.
I am so thankful each day that I do not have to be strong enough or energetic enough to make it on my own.  God is teaching me every day to depend on Him to give me what I need.  I am doing my best to choose joy during this season.  I have so many wonderful blessings that I am thankful for.  Life is hard right now.  I miss my kids, I miss my husband who is studying so hard, I miss my friends and I miss having some free time.  But each day I try to choose to be thankful instead of resentful.  Am I thankful each day?  No.  Am I trying?  Yes.  God did not promise me an easy life, but he did promise he would provide all I need to live it to the fullest, and He is so faithful!

    Still Here!

Where to begin...we are still here, just super busy and worn out.  Here is a snapshot of what we've been up to and then I hope to further update with new pictures and things this weekend.
    • I've started back to work.  I started back part-time for a couple weeks and this is my second week of working full-time.  It is hard.  It is really hard.  I miss being a stay at home mommy!  I loved my 3 months home with AG and the kids.  I am so thankful to have a job though so that Jason can go to school.  God is teaching me to trust him during this season.  There is NO WAY I can do all I need to on my own.  Only with His help can I make it through each day.
    • Anna-Grace is going to school with Silas and is doing very well.  Her teachers are super nice and she is being spoiled. : )  There are only 7 other babies and any time I have been there at most there are 4 others.  She is smiley and happy when we pick her up and Silas gets to walk down to her room to visit when he finishes Kindergarten.  We are blessed it has worked out.
    • I'm still nursing so when I get home at night she wants to be attached to me the rest of the night.  It's sweet, but REALLY hard to do anything.  I'm trying to enjoy our time together and know this phase won't (can't) last forever.
    • Basketball ended last weekend for Silas and Caroline.  They both really liked playing and we will do it again next year.
    • Madelyn got into SCAPA!  It is the school for creative and performing arts in our county.  There are only 54 spots for the entire 4th grade and she got one of six piano spots.  We are SOOOO proud of her - it is very competitive and she is beyond excited.  She will start next school year.
    • Anna-Grace is 3 months old!  She is just adorable and smiles and is starting to make little laughing noises.  She is a joy.  The kids continue to adore her.
    • Our weather has been crazy.  It's been a super warm winter.  Friday the kids got our of school early and my worked closed early due to us having a 100% chance for bad tornado's.  Thankfully our city was spared but others in our state we not.  It is bad.  Then on Monday we woke up to 5 inches of snow and then Tuesday afternoon it was 70 degrees.  CRAZY!
I think that covers the major highlights. : )  Hopefully I'll have a few minutes to spare this weekend so I can get some pictures on and catch up some more.
