Sunday - Two Days Post Surgery

If you have surgery, your mom will let you eat popsicles for breakfast!
Silas' face is a little swollen today. He is getting back to his normal self though. He is a little more tired than normal, but is starting to run around and not sit still anymore!
His black/puffy eye and cheek
We headed into Hollywood today before Alyssa leaves tomorrow. They were having the premier of Toy Story 3 there today!!! It was really neat to see the red carpet, all the signs and paparazzi people around. We didn't see any stars, but it was fun to see the hoopla.
We enjoyed walking a few blocks and seeing the stars
The famous "Hollywood" sign!
Having fun at a big outdoor shopping mall where the Kodak Theater is located
J and I - you can see the Hollywood sign really small in the background
We had lunch at the California Pizza Kitchen.
The Premier! When we were leaving limo's were pulling up. It was super crowded and Silas was getting tired so we headed on home. It was fun though.
At Grauman's Chinese Theater - the girls with Julie Andrew's hand and foot prints
A giant Shrek
And before Alyssa heads home, we had to stop at Sprinkles cupcakes again! She is taking some home for her boys. We got 3 different flavors to try tonight after dinner. Yummy!

We are continuing to have a great trip. Silas has done beautifully with the surgery. We go in tomorrow to have his drains removed. Alyssa leaves in the morning - we will miss her! She has been a HUGE help and such a blessing on our trip. I wish she was staying longer. I'm looking forward to having almost 2 more weeks here. We LOVE Manhattan Beach. Seriously, if it wasn't across the country I would love to live here.

Downtown Disney

Saturday afternoon Silas was doing well so we headed to Downtown Disney in Anaheim. My cousin Allison who lives in LA joined us. We had fun shopping around and eating at the Rain Forest Cafe. The kids loved the Lego Woody!
The 3 cousins at the Rainforest Cafe
The five of us
Waiting for for dinner - Caroline was able to eat a burger and fries! I got shrimp, Jason fajita's, Allison a salad, Alyssa and burger and Silas and Madelyn mac and cheese.
A TIRED boy! We got him this adorable Woody doll at the Disney store since he has been such a good, good boy!

Recovery Room

Silas in recovery with Dr. Dee his anesthesiologist
Buzz and Elmo bandaged up after surgery. Silas was able to take them back and they came out with bandages too. So sweet of the surgery staff!

Silas and Daddy
Back at our house - all smiles
First bath - he can't get his head wet for a week or so. The tubes are drainage tubes that he will have taken out tomorrow.

Overall, Silas is doing really well. He is sore and today his face is swollen on the right side. He is more subdued than normal, which is kind of a nice change! : )

God is Great!

We had a great day today! Silas' surgery went great. There were a couple changes from the initial plan once the doctor got in and was doing the procedure. All is good though and he thinks Silas will have a really good result. Dr. Reinisch took a video and lots of pictures during the surgery so we could see Silas' ear before it was bandaged. It is unbelievable! It will be a while before it looks as good as it did because of swelling. I will not be posting the pictures on the blog due to Silas' privacy.

We arrived at the surgery center around 6:15 am and left around 5:30 pm. The surgery was probably around 9 - 9 1/2 hours. We talked to the nurse 4 - 5 times throughout the day. It was so helpful to know my baby was doing well. Dr. R came out as soon as the surgery was over and went over everything with us. He is amazing! He showed us the video and pictures. We then went down to recovery and were with Silas before he woke up. It took him a little while to wake up. He drank several cups of apple juice and ate some crackers. We changed his clothes and headed home! He dozed on and off on the way home.

Once we got home he ate 3 popsicles, tortilla chips, corn, taco meat, cereal and drank some water. He was starving! He and the girls watched a little of "Toy Story" and then Silas wanted to go for a walk (of course buckled in the stroller)! This child is amazing. He never shed a tear all day, and is such a little trooper. He is already learning that mommy and daddy can help him though. He was required to be so independent at a young age before we got him. Normally allowing us to help him with things is hard for him. I think this will be so good for our relationship.

Right now he is fast asleep. He was so tired when he went to bed! I'm exhausted too. Pictures will come tomorrow! Thank you everyone for your prayers. The were felt all day long. Also a BIG thank you to my sis, Alyssa, who took great care of the girls today. They had a blast going to the beach and exploring the little town we are staying in.

Morning of Surgery

Silas and I at 6:15 am outside of the surgery center. He has on his Buzz Light Year scrubs that his Aunt Kara made him!
He had to change in to the hospital PJ's. Getting his vitals taken.
In good spirits with Daddy!
The nurse was great! She brought Silas papers and crayons while he waited.
She also brought him this hat to wear for fun.
Silas and Mommy after his dose of Versed aka "happy medicine"- he was cracking us up! He was super silly and then got really tired before they took him back.
Being taken back to surgery with Elmo and Buzz. His anesthesiologist is the one in blue scrubs (Dr. R told us one of his two favorites!). She was excellent with Silas before surgery. I teared up a little, but am more excited than anything. I feel total peace about this decision and know he is in the best hands!

The surgery nurse has called us twice since his surgery has started. Once to let us know they began the surgery and the second just to touch base and let us know that he is doing very well. Dr. Reinisch also came out early on because there was a change in one step of his surgery. So thoughtful he came out to tell us before he did the surgery than to wait until afterwards and tell us about the change.

Living the High Life!

We made it to LA! Our flights went perfectly. All the kids were great travelers. Yesterday was a really long day, but we had fun and had a great appointment with Dr. Reinisch yesterday afternoon. We left home at 4:30 am (1:30 am CA time) and drove to an hour to the airport. We flew to Phoenix, walked to our next gate and then flew into LA. We got our rental car and then drove into Beverly Hills where Silas' appointment was. We had several hours to spare, so we lived it up!
We had lunch at LA Food Show. I researched some fun places to eat online and am thankful I took time to do this. It's fun to try new places and not just stop at McDonald's for lunch! The restaurant was kid friendly and had a really neat atmosphere. Silas and Caroline had burgers and fries, Madelyn had gourmet mac & cheese and the adults all had yummy salads.
After lunch, we did a little shopping on our favorite little street, Rodeo Drive.
It was fun to see all the brand name stores. I actually did not see that many people who were really "shopping". More just people like us taking pictures and walking around.
A view down Rodeo. The weather is PERFECT here! 70's and sunny with no humidity!
Our rental car for the week. It's a little tight for the 6 of us, but we look so awesome driving around! HA! Really we have a white Town and Country Mini-van. : ) Couldn't resist taking a picture of this car on Rodeo Dr. though.
After all of our shopping, we walked to Sprinkles Cupcakes. Yummy! It was packed and is supposedly "the place" to go for cupcakes.
Alyssa at Sprinkles. We got lots of different flavors - vanilla, black and white, banana and red velvet.
CJ even got to have one!! They had a vegan red velvet cupcake = no milk!
Madelyn enjoying her cupcake and Sprinkles water.

Ready To Go!!

We are ready to begin our big adventure tomorrow! We're packed except for last minute toiletry things. We'll be leaving super early tomorrow morning and should arrive in LA at 10:30 their time. We have our first appointment at 4:00 and are looking forward to meeting his surgeon.

Silas is excited, but his nervousness and fear is starting to come out this afternoon. This is totally understandable! Pray he will be able to enjoy himself tomorrow instead of being hypervigilant about everything. The girls are so excited they are driving me crazy! Is it bedtime yet???

We'll we are going to Panera for a quick dinner. The kitchen is closed tonight!
