Amen and M&Ms

The basis: So when G goes pee in the potty, he gets an M&M or two. And at night when we say our prayers we end with "Amen". Here's where the story (in my opinion) gets funny. Tonight after saying our prayers, G says, "Mommy, I eat Amen!!! I eat Amen! Yummy!" and he proceeded to pretend to eat "Amen". Confused and trying not to fall out of the chair laughing, I realized he thought that Amen and M&Ms were the same thing. To explain I said, "Well you get M&Ms when you go pee pee and we say Amen after we talk to God."

The result: He still likes to eat Amens. He says, "That funny!"

Today on the way to Austin I was asking G his name, which he proudly said. Then I asked what mommy's name was and he said mommy. Then I asked what daddy's name was and he said, "Erik!"

Huh? I guess he hears me call him Erik and he put it all together. He's so funny.

On a side note his other new phrases include:
What did you say?
Whaaaaaaaaaaat?
Did you hear that noise?
What are you doing?
I help Mommy.
Stop singing that song, Mommy!
I do it!
What?
Mommy, get up! or Mommy, wake up!
.... and my least favorite: No!

Painting With a Twist

This is my latest obsession!! Thursday night mom, Ashley (my sister) and I went to Painting with a Twist. Most nights of the week, different classes are offered. You bring in your own wine, food, etc and paint! I had a sweet tea since I'm not much of a wine fan. Everyone started with the Fleur-de-Leis pencil sketched on their canvas and we went from there!!

We had SO much fun and I found out there is a Painting with a Twist near Fort Hood!!! Needless to say this will not be my last visit.

Where did the summer go?

Baylor vs. Sam Houston State game
Sept. 4
(isn't G cute in his Baylor polo?)

BUGWB (Baylor Univ Golden Wave Band) - halftime
Baylor vs. Buffalo SUNY
Sept. 11

Yes, that is a doorknob at the bottom of our castle. Garrett will be happy to tell you about the fireman who had to open that door. :)

A picture of our big boy
(and his mother who has on no make-up and has bed head)

So tired. Took me forever to wake these two.

So where did the summer go? Our summer went with family visits, day trips around the area, football games, rainy days and the PBS morning lineup. So here's the highlights:
July: Grandma Barbara, Amanda and Jason came to visit for the 4th.
August: I turned 30, Nana Sue had a birthday
September: Rain, grad school, and Baylor Football!!!

G: Is learning so much every day I'm not sure I can keep up. He knows his letters and numbers (although we are working on the actual counting still), colors, shapes and is reciting the Constitution (what? No, he's not, I promise) but he is familiar with every show on PBS. Curious George, Cat in the Hat, Word World, Super Why, Clifford... did I get them all? While I promise I don't strap him down in front of the TV, I'm super surprised how much he picks up from these shows (in a great way)! He loves to paint and build castles with his blocks. He calls small or light things "baby" and big things "heavy". So if he sees a big box its a "heavy box" and if he sees a small/lower case letter he calls it a "baby (letter)". I love how talkative he is... "Mommy, help" or "Need help". He's always asking "You hear that noise?" And lately he's all about hugs and kisses, especially kisses. He kisses the computer, the cat, my arm, you get the picture.

That's all for now! Happy September!

Chopstick, Baby!

We went out to a local sushi/Japanese restaurant and Garrett decided he wanted to eat like everyone else. As a result, I got his attempt on video (but no sound, grrrrr):

(I tried to post this in July, but it didn't work so here it is 2 months later)

"Ho-dirk" and more toddler talk

So I'm taking graduate courses right now and Garrett has come accustom to me doing my homework. He calls it my "ho-dirk" which is toddler for "homework". It's cute really. A good friend and neighbor has been watching him a few hours, once a week so I can finish big assignments. The other day I went over to watch her son and Garrett tried to push ME out the door saying, "Mommy, ho-dirk!"

We've been reading all sorts of books. One of his favorites is called "Baby Happy, Baby Sad" and it deals with things that make you happy or sad (duh, right? The title says it all). Well, Garrett will now say "Baby Happy" whenever he's doing something he enjoys. Another new phrase is, "mommy, hold you." This is when he needs some Mommy love or a quick hug. Another fun time is just after we do bath and story time, he calls in "nuggles" which is toddler for "snuggles". It's a special time before he goes to bed...we sing, are generally silly, etc.

He's recently become obsessed with the Disney Pixar movie Wall-E. I bought him a Wall-E toothbrush and wow has that made a difference and bedtime! Potty training has not progressed any further, but I'm just taking his lead and we are stationary. Oh, well. He will get there. He's still into clocks and watches, in fact, we have to visit the clock section of what ever store we may be in. He uses anything and everything to make mountains or forts. He will stack every pillow in the house on the couch and will climb up it and jump off of it. He's all boy!!

I've tarted to sew more often and Garrett finds it fascinating. The shiny things that cut and machines that makes noise. He's all about it. One day he said, "mommy, teach me! Teach me, mommy!" As my heart was melting I showed him how to cut and how the machine uses the ouchie needle. So yesterday (after turning back for literally one second) I find that he has taken the scissors to a project I'm making someone. Yikes!! If I'm looking for the silver lining, the line was straight and he was able to use them correctly. Yeah, it's a long shot but I was able to salvage the project. Note to self: put scissors in a really super safe place!

So that's what's been going on here. I'll post some pictures soon. :)

My dear grandmother passed away a year ago June 12. I miss so many things about her but most of all I miss talking to her. Things will happen through out my day and my reaction is to call and tell her about it. And while I did call her often when she was alive, I wish I had called even more. She knew I loved her. I guess that's all I could ask for...is that she knew. I also miss laughing with her. I honestly got more joy out of hearing her laugh than anything. I love that she saw me graduate from college, get married and meet her great-grand son. I just miss her...

Here's my post from last year, if you're interested in reading it.

I love you, Grandma!

It's been a while...

This post doesn't have any pictures but a whole lot has been going on with us! The past three months have flown by: April - Amanda and Jason's wedding, May - I have no idea where May went and June - how is it already June? Garrett's vocabulary has exploded. It's nice it have "conversations" with him. He knows almost all of his alphabet which is really neat. His favorite book is Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. He calls it A-E-O or E-E-O, that's his phrase for the alphabet and this book. We read it at least 3 times a day. I'm surprised how he is now letting me read him longer stories. As a book person, this makes my heart soar. (yes, I'm a library student and nerd)

Garrett makes his own "oast" (toast) and likes to get his own apple juice and yogurt. He likes to help me make sandwiches and chocolate milk. And while he is not potty-trained, we are on the right road. He will do it when he's ready. Additionally, he's in this diaper-only phase. When we are home, he will take all of his clothes off with the exception of his diaper. I mean it IS hot here...I dunno. I just go with it. :)

He's such a sweet kiddo and I'm so lucky to be his mommy.

My 'helper'

Garrett is an expert at washing dishes (read as: filling bowls, cups, etc with water and bubbles). Today he asked me if he could wear one of my aprons. His exact words were, "Mommy, apron?" I'm discovering he is a man of few words. Why say more when 2 simple words get the point across? I wonder if this concept works on husbands? "Money, please?" or "Target now!" I'll let you know how that works out for me. :)

Cookie Monster

The Seholms went to visit our friends in Dallas this weekend (and also made a visit to my grad school - Texas Woman's University). The highlight of the weekend for Garrett was this cookie. :) One of the highlights for Amanda (our friend) and I was Pinkberry!! If you've never had it before...whoa is it good!!

la vie en rose

The title of this post will make sense if you know our address....

The Seholm Home
(how cool is it that they have these signs made for us...and every house in our neighborhood)

A Texas welcome

Our kitchen, it's actually bigger than it looks. It also continues to the left with a laundry area and LOTS of cabinets.

Our new dining table.

The other side of the room :: Garrett's train table, sitting area and the temporary storage of the dog's kennels.

I love, love, love our new home. Our former on-post quarters don't hold a candle to our new place - in size and amenities. We have a single-family with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, privacy fenced-in yard, huge pantry, and more inside storage than I could ever ask for. And to top that off, we have some nice neighbors, too.

Back to Baylor

The sticker Erik bought for my car. In true Erik form, we had to put it on right then.

Posing by the judge...at Waco Hall

Lovely...

One of my favorite views of campus.

Forever ago I went to Baylor. And I'm still a Baylor Bear at heart...I even taught Garrett to say 'Sic Em Bears', it's the cutest thing ever. I love living so close to Waco and look forward to many trips. It's fun to share this part of my life with Erik and Garrett. Yet another reason to love living in Texas. (yeah, like I needed another reason to love living here again). Regardless, I'm home!

Happy New Year...in Texas

We made it to Texas about two weeks before Christmas and having been visiting family, organizing our home and stimulating the Killeen / Round Rock economy (it's so foreign to have actual stores within such a short driving distance...can we say IKEA!?!)

I will post pictures as soon as my house is in livable order. I wish everyone a blessed 2010.
(wow, that's so weird to write)
