Just in case you can't tell, Mandy is Elfaba from Wicked, Ashley is a Vampire (note the red lips), Jason is a Batman whose mask needs adjusting, and Lydia is a Kangaroo (her hands are covering her Joey). Lydia has slept in her costume twice since the party.
Every year at the church, our ward throws a GIGANTIC Halloween Party. They have all kinds of carnival games for the kids and a trunk or treat. There were at least 250 people there (that is TONS for out here in Chicago, considering that probably half of those are friends of other faiths). Anyway, I always feel like Halloween is over after the party, especially since our candy bowls are now completely overflowing!
Special thanks to my friend Amber Pepple who gave me this great idea on how to deal with so much Halloween candy. My kids love it:
You go to the dollar store or Wal-Mart and pick out a few things that each kid might like. I get coloring books, swords for Jason, books, lip gloss, little soaps, card games, toothbrushes (with characters) and other similar cheap items. I set up a "store" where I price the items according to how many pieces of candy the oldest child brings home. I then price the most desirable item to each child the highest (almost all their candy). Then they SHOP!! I think I confiscate most of the candy in one night!! Then I save it for other things like filling birthday pinatas. It's the best and my kids can't wait for the store to open on Halloween night. They still get to have some fun without getting ill and throwing up later that night (which we have experienced in the past).
