Porter's Physics "Field Trip"

Monday morning at 3am, Porter and I were up getting him out the door and too the school by 3:30am for his Physics "Field Trip".  At the school they had a very nice chartered bus with all the kids from the 1 or 2 AP Physics classes offered at the high school.  Porter knew many of the kids since he've been in these honors classes with them for the past 3 years.  Today they were being bussed to to California to spend the day at the beach, then tomorrow they are going to Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park.  Must be a tough class...wonder what grade he'll get for the trip!  :-)  He said they has a blast at the beach other than getting a little sunburned and an awesome day at Six Flags!  He had lots of fun with the kids in his class as you can see from the pictures. Glad you had a great time...you've definitely earned it!!  :-)

Bentley's 1st Transfer

She's not even on her mission yet, but Bentley had her first transfer today!  Sister Kimmermer who has been serving in our ward came over to tell Bentley that she's being transferred and won't be here to find out where Bentley gets her mission call to.  :-(  Bentley was a part-time companion to Syster Kimmermer when her companion received her visa to their real mission leaving her companionless.  She's been a wonderful missionary and in our home many times for dinners, but to Bentley this was like having her first transfer and leaving a companion.  I'm sure there are many more of these partings coming on your future mission which we should be finding out about this week!!  :-)

Porter the "Master Scripturian"!

He did it again...his fourth year in a row achieving "Master Scripturian" in seminary!  He was actually the first one of this school year to do it since the church changed many of the scripture mastery verses this year...so he had to memorize all four years of them to pass the test -- which is why nobody else has accomplished this feat yet.  Way to go Porter...your hard work will definitely pay off in the mission field and for the rest of your life!  We're sure proud of you!

Snowy Cabin Weekend!

This weekend we decided to get away for one last time before I start working again...so we asked the kids who wanted to go, nobody wanted to.  So Lexine and I came by ourselves and we brought Grandma Glasgow with us to give her a chance to get out of the valley and do something enjoyable.  We has seen the weather that it was going to be rainy, but that wasn't going to stop us.  We left Saturday morning around 7am and got to the cabin at 9:30am.  We had lots of rain on the drive up, but didn't look like the cabin had gotten any of it...but it was cold, around 33F.  We got our stuff in, than sat and talked for a little bit as it started to rain, then sleet, then snow, and snow, and snow some more.  It started snowing so hard that we could barely see the playground out the window.  After about an hour we started wondering if we were going to need to leave so we didn't get stuck here...but decided to wait it out.  After a couple hours and a couple inches of snow, it finally stopped and the sun came out.  It was so beautiful and bright outside!  It was almost hard to see it was so bright with everything being so white and reflecting the sun.  The kids back home were mad they didn't come when they heard about the snow.  :-)  It was a wonderful day of visiting, reading and napping.  In the evening we took a little drive to get gas and figured we might as well get some Dairy Queen while we were out.  :-)  Then it was home to watch a movie/TV, then off to bed.  We got up around 7am this morning and caught the Heber 2nd ward meetings at 9am -- a wonderful sacrament meeting of a missionary leaving and another returning.  Now its home for some lunch, maybe a short nap, then back to reality back home!  It sure it nice up here...I'm glad we were able to enjoy a little break for a short weekend!

Caleb & Jonah's Scout Campout

This afternoon Caleb & Jonah had a scout campout!  This was their first one since the ward split and the big temple cultural celebration, so they were excited.  Their troop just went nearby to Usery Pass to camp which would normally be hot, but this weekend a cold front blew in, so it should be nice for them.  Unfortunately of their 16-18 deacons, only four of them went...but that can actually be more fun to spend one-on-one time with their great leaders.  They said they had a lot of fun...except when Caleb got a big cactus thorn in his leg -- something that always seems to happen when camping in the desert!  It took him a while, but he eventually got it out.  They came back much earlier than expected, but that was alright since they are now able to do their chores then go hang out with friends.  :-) Glad you guys had a good time and proud you both are good examples of always participating in quorum activities!

Happy Birthday Grandpa Glasgow!

This evening we enjoyed a very nice gathering of Glasgows to celebrate Grandpa Glasgow's birthday!  I never had the privilege of meeting Grandpa Glasgow, but from all that I heard about him and all the memories people have shared of his life, he must have been a truly wonderful person.  This evening we all got together for an Ice Cream Social in his honor.  It was a great time to visit and reflect on his life with family.

Tree Trimming Adventure

This morning Lexine and I went on a walk then came home to notice that our front yard trees were in need of some trimming.  I thought it would be just a few minor branches cut that would do the job, but before we knew it, we were trimming everything and had lots to pickup and cut smaller.  Our few minutes turned into a couple hours...which wasn't bad except for the fact we had lots of other things to do today.  I've never liked these trees...they are all thorny versions of Mesquite and Palo Verde trees, so they are literally a pain to trim! Well today it was more of a pain than usual...  Lexine was trimming while I was stuffing into the garbage can.  I took a big load over to the can and started shoving it in, when I must have blinked just at the wrong time and not seeing the thorny branch spring right at my face and getting me right in the eye.  That stopped me from working for a big...ouch that hurt!  I couldn't open for the longest time it hurt so bad!  It wouldn't stop hurting so finally we called uncle Kirk Reed's eye doctor's office to see if I could get in quickly.  Sure enough...a scratch right across my eyeball and pupil.  Luckily he said the eye heals fast and it should be about 80% better by tomorrow, but that won't stop it from hurting and being irritated today.  Too bad there's so many things going on that I can't go home and watch TV as the doctor ordered -- another Caleb track meet and getting my Gilbert Latham home ready for renters is my priority.  But Lexine did get a shot of me reading my scriptures tonight with my glasses holding the kleenex to my eye.  :-)  Guess I better start wearing safety glasses from now on!  ;-)

Noah get his Braces Off...Finally!

This morning Noah got his braces off...finally!  It seems like its been forever, however its not even been a full two years -- I'm just glad we're finished paying for them as I just exited Motorola!  :-)  He's loving it though...smooth teeth again.  Your teeth look great Noah!  Don't forget to wear your retainer now!  :-)

Maizey's Track Meet

Today was a half-day for the kids at school, but Maizey still had a track meet that she competed in.  This was her very last meet of the season.  She's been competing in the Shot Put and Discuss.  She's been at practices everyday, so she's done pretty good.  Lexine teaches piano until 4:30pm on Wednesday's, so as soon as she was done we rushed out the door to see her.  Although we missed her competing in the shot put, we did get to see her throw the discuss.  She has a great form.  It was a nice time because we ran into President Derrick and Dave & Allison Hemstreet as well.  Great job Maizey!

Bentley's Wait Begins...

This evening Bentley met with our Stake President for her final interview for submitting her mission papers...and from all indications it appears that she passed!  She was asked some very interesting questions like what trials she has experienced that will help her to endure staying on a mission when so many others have been coming home.  She shared our family story as her experience, which must have sufficed since our Stake President told her he would be sending in her papers on April 30th -- exactly 120 days from the time she can go.  So now the wait begin...we should receive her call within the next 2-3 weeks!  What an exciting time for Bentley and our family!!  :-)

Caleb's Track Meet

Caleb had another track meet again this afternoon!  His event today was to run the mile again...this time I remembered to time him.  He did pretty good as you can see from the stopwatch times below...but it was hot and Willis Jr. High's track was a little odd.  Keep it up Caleb...you're doing great!

Lexine & Toby Day Date

Being unemployed for the moment is not such a bad thing...although I had hoped I would have a little more down time than I've been having which has been none! :-)  We've been working away on our home, getting my home ready to rent, walking/riding to get ready for Havasupai, etc.  I'm exhausted from all this unemployment life and need to get back to work so I can relax!  :-)  But today was nice...we needed to run a few errands, so Lexine and I made one of our stops Steve's Krazy Sub.  Not something I've had much of since being Gluten Free, but they had told us that they could make me a sub if I brought it in my own Gluten Free bread...so we did!  And wow was that a nice, very missed treat!  Since I had to use Hot Dog buns, They used two of them to make my sandwich as there were quite a bit smaller.  After eating one of them, I was so full that I called Micah and took the other half to her!  I guess we just added another restaurant back on our list of places to eat!!  ;-)

Easter 2014!!

Happy Easter!  Last night Lexine and I were up until 11:30pm getting Easter baskets ready and hiding them for the kids to find this morning -- which is exactly what they did.  At about 7am this morning, we finally had to wake them up to find their baskets before we heading to church which starts at 9am.  Its been a fun tradition at our home -- but we do miss Kami who hasn't been here this Easter and last, she'll be here next year though, but not Bentley & Porter who will be on their missions!  The kids each got some good candies in their basket along with some clothes.  The girls got new dresses, most of the boys got ties and socks.  Garrett got a Purple dress shirt to wear to school on swim meet days and Porter got a new tee shirt and lots of really nice jeans.  Lexine dressed up in her bunny suit she got at Goodwill a couple months ago and really creeped out the kids.  :-)  It was a wonderful morning and excellent sacrament services -- followed by ham & potato casserole -- Yum!  Then some quick family pictures as has also been our tradition.  The perfect day to remember the Saviors resurrection...an event that means very much to us in this family since we've lost Rod & Cindy and look forward to the day when they are resurrected!

Maizey's Sugar Cookie Fund Raiser

Maizey has been trying to earn money for her activities this summer of EFY and also potentially flights to go visit Grandma & Grandpa Clark in Utah.  Time has been ticking down with few opportunities presenting themselves to her.  So Lexine and Maizey had the great idea of a Sugar Cookie bake sale.  On Friday they posted on Instagram that they will be making sugar cookies for $8 per dozen.  They thought they might get a few orders, but they ended up coming in so fast that they finally had to cap it at 40 orders!  So guess what Maizey (plus Lexine and I) did on Friday and Saturday -- Yes, we made sugar cookies!  :-)  By 6PM Friday night, there were only 12 dozen made, so instead of going out on our weekly date, we stayed home and made cookies while Maizey went babysitting -- I mixed up the batches while Lexine rolled them out and baked them.  By Midnight we had most of the cookies made for Maizey to frost on Saturday -- which she did all day until about 3PM when customer started showing up to pickup their orders.  All in all she made some great money -- about $250 after paying for all the supplies.  Great job Maizey...you've definitely earned your fun for this summer!  :-)

Severtson Screens Company Party

Today was the Severtson Screens Company party!  Grandma & Grandpa Severtson were in China, so Kirk & Danny ran it (I guess I'll be running it as well in future years).  It was a lot of fun...held at Pioneer Park across from the Mesa Temple.  We got new Severtson company shirts, played games, had a hamburgers and hotdogs, and then a big raffle for candy & prizes.  Some of our kids won candy -- Garrett won a huge bucket of gum.  Most of the boys won smaller candy prices while Lexine won a box of candy.  I won a $15 gift card at Dairy Queen -- whoohoo!!  It was a great time with family and those who work for Grandpa's company!

Maizey said Yes!

This evening, Maizey answered Jimmy on his prom proposal -- she said Yes!  She got one of the "big" donuts from Basha's and with a cute little saying telling him she would like to go with him.  What a fun time and age that goes by so quickly.  Still looking for dresses...the countdown is now on!  She will be looking forward to this fun Prom date!

Priest Softball Champions

Tonight Porter and Garrett had the stake young men's softball playoffs. With all the young men we have in our ward, many of them have grown up playing lots of baseball, so we have a very good team. We won the tournament the last two years in a row. Tonight we made that three years in a row! Both Porter and Garrett were on the team and did well. Porter played catcher at this championship game and Garrett played third baseman. The game tonight was fairly close -- in the beginning we thought it was going to be an easy win, but after a couple innings the Hawes ward caught up and was even winning for a time. But in the end our Priests came out triumphant! Good job Porter and Garrett… I'm proud of you for playing with the team!

Caleb's First Track Meet

Actually last Thursday was his first track meet, but since it conflicted with his Eagle board of review, he chose it over track. :-) So today he competed at Perry High School in the Mile race.  He did fairly well and ran great, unfortunately someone (me) forgot to time him, so we'll have to wait until the coaches post his time.  But he looked good and believed he ran one of his fastest miles ever...guess we'll just have to wait and see.  Next meet is this Thursday!  Good job Caleb!
