Porter's adventures from Vegas

A week after Toby's surgery was our biggest show of the year... CinemaCon! It's held in Vegas and we have a lot of fun at that show. Toby's doctors said there might be a chance he could go, but after the complicated surgery the doctors told us no way was he going. So we sent Porter instead. Porter sure has been traveling a lot of the company...Hawaii twice and now Vegas! Haha! He had a great time and he had a even better time getting all the candy and  stuff at the end of the show. That's the best part of the show, all the free stuff! He totally out did Kirk and Keta, now that's saying something. They're the pro's! Haha!

Missionaries for dinner

We love having the missionaries over for dinner. We just happened to get a new one this transfer. Elder Rogers was transferred and Elder Daines got a new companion. Elder McKown is from Texas and is the nicest guy!We had a 3rd mission joins us for dinner. Elder Mitchell. Apparently he had served in our ward before, but I sure don't remember him. It must of have been short transfer. We had a great night visiting with them. We took this picture and sent it to all their mamas.

Toby Returns to Mayo

After Toby's surgery, the doctors had put a fluid drain in his leg. It had to be emptied so many times a day and we had to write down how much fluid there was. Once it got to a certain point, then the drain could be removed. We had gone in Friday to get it checked and then they said there was still too much fluid and to come again on Monday. So we came again on Monday and they finally took the drain out. Oh man... That was not fun! I totally felt Toby's pain. I've had several tubes and drains in me that have had to be pulled and it is not fun! . They checked  his bandages and changed the dressing. Tuesday they called and said to come down again because they had put the bandage on wrong, so we went again. Then we had to come again on Wednesday and again on Friday for different things. What a week!

Strawberry shortcake surprise!!

For FHE, we had a short lesson and then Toby wanted to get out of the house. He hates being coupe up all day and not being able to get out much. So we started to make a DQ run. As Toby was loaded in the car, Bro. Baldwin pulls up in his car. He came and brought us strawberry shortcake! His wife Kristy had made a gluten free angel food cake and strawberries with whip cream to go on top! They had heard about Toby's surgery and brought over a yummy treat to cheer us all up and boy did it ever!Once the boys saw it, they got out of the car and headed into the house with the treat. They would've rather had that instead of DQ. I was surprised, but after I tasted it, I would've picked that too over ice cream!

Women's Broadcast

It's that time of year again, we get to attend the General Women's broadcast. It was a nice night with amazing talks of faith, hope and being a certain woman a woman of righteousness. Bentley and Kami went with me and we missed Maizey again, but this time because she was in Russia. Usually she has been working. Afterwards we went and got Cold Stone creamery!

Toby's BIG Surgery Birthday

Today's the day for Toby's big birthday surgery! We celebrated the weekend before because we knew that this was going to be a big surgery. We got there around 7:30 in the morning and they took him back a couple hours later. About 4 hours in, I got an update from the doctor that the tumor had be removed successful. Then 30 minutes later I get another update that the tumor was finally out. Then there was another 2 hours left to grafted in the bone and get the plates and screws in. So over all it was about a 6 hour surgery. I visited with the doctor and he said that the surgery was a lot more complicated than they had originally thought. The nerves were all intertwined with the tumor, so they had to cut quite a few, along with some of his muscle. But he said he was very pleased with it and that they were no signs of cancer and that they had got it all removed. They didn't even need to do another dose of radiation on it. I waited another hour or so before I could back and see him. He was awake and doing great. He was talking and in good spirits. We had to wait for a couple hours before his room was ready. So, I ran to get some dinner in the meantime. They finally got his room and they had to lift him into bed using the crane! It was pretty cool to see. He got settled for the night and I took off around 10pm. What a day! So grateful for all the prayers and support and that the surgery went well. It's going to be a long road to recovery, but we got this! We're pro's!

Noah "McBride" in Mexico

Noah was invited to go to Mexico with the McBride family in our ward for spring break! Lucky guy! It's been years since we've been. The last time was before Rod died, so that's been at least 10 years now.  He went for a few days, along with some other families in our ward. He had a great time. He got to eat lots of yummy Mexican food, go on one of the banana boats in the ocean and even went deep sea fishing and caught quite a few fish! He was in heaven! He fits right in with the McBride family. I almost think, he was born into the wrong family, he even looks like one of them with his dark olive skin!

Remembering Cindy - 7 year Anniversary

The years keep slipping by every so subtly, yet the memories of this amazing wife and mother are never fading.  I can't believe its been 7 years...where has the time gone.  The kids are doing wonderful and knowing Cindy I'm sure there's been much peaking in to check up on them.  Her patriarchal blessing said she would delight in her children and she would wonder what exactly that meant since she loved them so much already, but felt there was something more to that statement -- I suspect she knows what that means now as she sees all that they have become and are becoming.

It was a beautiful morning to visit her grave and remember her.  This was Porter's first time back to the cemetery after returning home from his mission to Argentina.  Kami was called into the Young Women's presidency in her ward and had an activity this morning, so she was unable to join us even though she really wanted to.  And of course Garrett is on his mission in Chile.  So it was just the three of us in the picture today...but her legacy continues to live on through these amazing kids who remind me so much of her!  We love and miss you!!
