Family California Vacation!

We had waited for Caleb to come home before scheduling our family summer vacation so that he could come with us, but since the entire world was wanting to get out and do something after sitting home with Covid-19, things were super expensive.  Many homes to rent in California for a family our size were going for more than $2000 per night!  So we decided to make it short and sweet and ended up staying in several Marriott hotels.  We decided to leave Thursday night so we wouldn’t be so tired on Friday.  We drove to Indio where we met up with Kami & Tim and Porter & Amy who drove with them, and stayed the night there.  The next morning we were up and ate breakfast together before we all took off to our different destinations. Kami & Porter families took off to LegoLand and we took our older kids and went to Knottsberry Farm!  We both had a great time — Kami said James got to drive the little blue lego car that he had been hoping to, and the rest of us found Knottsberry farm to be super crowded and busy.  We were only able to ride about six rides before being exhausted and leaving around 6pm.

On Saturday we were up and going to the beach for the morning…we had a blast there, mostly because of how much fun James & Lucas had running from the waves and playing in the sand.  Everyone else pretty much just sun bathed.  Then we stopped by Taco Bell for a quick bite to eat, then back to the hotel for a nap.  Around 6pm we went to dinner at Golden Coral, then over to Downtown Disney to walk around.  But it was a bummer since they wouldn’t let Kami & Tim in with their wagon. We were there for just a little while, but didn’t end up getting back to the hotel until about 10pm.

Sunday we all slept in, the around 11am got picked up and started heading over to Aunt Jen Basso’s house where we had lunch and visited for a while before heading over to the Mormon Battalion visitor’s center.  James loved panning for gold and playing in the water.  The weather was super nice…upper 60s!  Then after that we started our drive back, stopping in Yuma at the Springfield Marriott there for the night.  Then getting up the next morning to finish our drives home.

It was an awesome trip…we had everyone with us except for Bentley & Cal who were not able to take the time off — we missed having them with us and part of the fun.  Hopefully everyone can come on our next trip and adventure, but with a family our size, we know that’s highly impractical anymore.  But we love spending time with anyone who is able to join us…the joys of being grandparents! :-)

Caleb Returns with Honor!

I can’t believe its been two years — i think the small break in Caleb’s mission due to Covid-19 made it seem shorter, but I couldn’t be more proud of this kid who went out and served, starting in Peru and finishing in Texas.  He did the hard thing and has been blessed much for his service and dedication.  Today we all waited anxiously for his arrival — the entire family was there, as well as Micah & Keta who brought there families with them.  Everyone was excited to see and welcome Caleb home.  On the way home, we stopped by Grandma & Grandpa Porter’s home for a quick visit, then over to Grandma Glasgow’s who now lives with Dennis & Lona Johnson (Lexine’s sister) since all of them wouldn’t be able to join us for his open house that evening.  In honor of Caleb’s mission, we had Al Pastor tacos for his welcome home dinner, then at 6pm we were down at the stake center meeting with President Roger’s who released him as a missionary!  At 7pm we were back home for his open house with all sorts of family and friends who can to congratulate and welcome him back.  I sure like these welcome homes much better than the saying goodbyes…but the goodbyes are done for now, only one more welcome home to go! :-)

Happy 1st Birthday Lucas

We had a nice evening with the family over, as well as Tom & Melanie Kasper (Tim's parents) to celebrate Lucas's 1st birthday!  All the older cousins could hardly bare to watch him open his presents and were right in there to help him open and play with them as you can imagine.  He had his only little cake on the floor which didn't seem to thrill him much and just wanted to be held by his momma.  But we all had a good time celebrating this little guy's special day!
