Little Girl. Big Secret.

This little girl has a big secret...
She's not wearing a diaper.
She let them go three weeks ago.
She loves her undies,
and to be honest...so do we!

Averett Adventures - Month 5

...oh your tongue, your sweet-always-sticking-out tongue...
...you "survived" your first earthquake, hurricane and flood...
...you love going on walks in the stroller...
...you have already learned a key part to "being a guy" - holding the girls' stuff...
...you still like your 3-6 month clothes, but you're almost too "tall" for them...
...you've started rice cereal, 2-3 times a day, you're not a fan...
...besides the rice cereal, you're eating 6-ish sometimes 7 times a day...
...your awesome "bedtime sleep" apparently went on vacation with us, but forgot to come home - remember how awesome it is to sleep a.l.l. night?? - we wish you would...
...your naps are getting better and better - thank you...
...you can roll over, and you have rolled over, you just don't do it very often...
...everyone always comments on how happy you are, I agree...
...you drool, a lot (and no, you aren't teething)...
...you "like" your tummy-time, kind of...
...you are starting to break free from the straight jacket swaddler...
...you are a b.i.g. Utah fan - GO UTES!...
...you are starting to sit up really well, you just need a little help.  I have a feeling you'll be sitting solo in no time...
...you loved the last few days before the pool closed, you really like the water...
...we love, love, love having you in our family...
...even Chewie's got your back...
 ...no, seriously, we a.d.o.r.e you...

Running Partner

The good news: I found a running partner.
The bad news: I don't think I can keep up with her.

I was headed out the door for a quick run, when Hazel caught me.  She was adamant about coming.  I convinced her to ride in the stroller for the first 4 miles, but promised her she could run as soon as our house was in sight.
She must have liked it, because ever since, she's been waiting for me on the porch after each run, ready to do a "victory lap" with me.
I think I'm going to like this new partner.

Big Sister

We have waited three, long years for the return of Karen.  One of the greatest sisters. Ever.

Day 1: Local Lowdown
"fields and fields" of sunflowers.
Rita's. (Karen likey)
A little "maintenance".
Staying up until 4am waiting for Seth to get home from a business trip (because, apparently Averett really wanted to wait up for him).

Day 2:Philly Walkin'
Fun, relaxing run for the sisters.
A walking tour of Philadelphia.
Hit the major sights, all in under two hours.
Barely-potty-trained Hazel didn't have one accident!
Had a s.e.r.i.o.u.s meltdown of both kids at dinner.  First meltdown like that, ever.  Glad Karen is so patient!
And, by the way, Karen is Hazel's newest BFF.
(Seth took some photos...)
(Karen took some photos...)
Good thing those boots were made for walkin'... (Seth-left, Karen-right)

Day 3: Home Time
A little East Coast Primary.
Cookie-makin' with Aunt Karen.
Serious good-times on the deck.
Walking around the 'hood.

Day 4:
Inner Harbor pit-stop.
Tasty, DDD Broadway Diner lunch -mmmmm.
Airport dropoff.  Sniff, sniff.

I am so glad Karen came to see me us!  I hated dropping her off at the airport.  I even prayed for another hurricane to delay her flight (it worked with Steph).
Karen is one of my bestest friends in the world.  Not sure if our friendship sprouted out of our years of sharing a room, or the near-death car accident (okay, it was just a minor one), or because she always let me hang out with her and her friends, even though I was 4 years younger, or was it the late-night scare tactics...hmmmm...
She is seriously a shining example of awesome sister, awesome mom, awesome friend, awesome person!
Thanks for visiting Karen!

Baby Girl

Two and a half years.
Thirty months.
Hazel, you just keep getting older!

You are a.w.e.s.o.m.e.

There are so many things about you that melt my heart and make me grateful to be your mom...

:you hold my hand, like a grown-up...but you still hold Dad's hand like a baby girl (holding just one finger):
:you are my go-to helper with Averett, you will search the house looking for his burp cloth or binky:
:your vocabulary is growing so fast - trust me, we are trying our best to keep up with your new words:
(apprently, after a meltdown in the car, it was discovered that "Uncle Danno" is actually "Old MacDonald" - who knew??)
:you are my assistant-chef in the kitchen, side-kick housekeeper, and A+ laundry sorter:
:although it I find it a little intimidating, I love that you want to do things "just like Mommy":
:bless your heart, but you can be a bit of a picky eater, you still prefer your dairy, breads and fruit - string cheese being your favorite:
:when you are tired, or feeling under-the-weather, you grab your blankie and cuddle up with me on the couch - I love it:
:your laugh is contagious and you are developing the funniest sense of humor:
:your hair, oh your hair - why, why, why won't you let me do something. anything with it?  I can't complain, you do let me blowdry it...but would a clip or pony tail be asking too much?:
:you skip, you run, you dance and you sing:
:you make our lives brighter everyday:

We love you!

the window.

Tonight (post-flood-viewing), I looked out the window, and what did I see?

evacuate.

What would you do if you heard on the news that there were mandatory flood evacuations for the town just north of you, and parts of your town as well?

Well, we knew our house was safe, so we did what everyone else in town did...headed to the boardwalk to check it out!
The boats in the marina, (out of the picture - sorry) were technically floating above the parking lot.  It was a little creepy.
Seth joked, "nothing brings the town out like a good ol' flood".  He wasn't kidding, the boardwalk/park were packed.
Hazel insisted on picking out her outfit.  I don't know that she's taken those galoshes off since Hurricane Irene.  (Yes, those are her pj bottoms).  Oh well.

We were there about 36 hours before the river crested, so it definitely got deeper.  We had planned on going back down to check it out - but, well...we were occupied at home, with a little thing we call the P.T.  (More to come on that...)
