First Day

Despite my unbelief that Hyrum could ever be old enough, my Bud started kindergarten on Thursday! I kept getting his fake smile so I told him a joke & finally got the real deal.

The best of friends (really) & it makes a Mom happy. I was really worried about Hunter adjusting because he & Hyrum do everything together & haven't even been fighting at all practically all summer long. But he seems to be adjusting fine (at least for the first two days).

All the kids

Here he is ready to go in his classroom. Sniff, sniff.

I did my crying (more than I like to admit) the night before so I was fine for the day of. Kindergarten here is full day 8:50-3:30. I was dead set on having him go just half day for lots of reasons I won't go into. But after a long story I won't bore anyone with Jeremy felt like he should really go full day so I gave in & decided we could try full day. All the math/reading/writing type stuff is in the morning & all the PE, music, art, Spanish, library, computer type stuff is in the afternoon. I know we're only two days into it but he did great. I don't know exactly what I was expecting but he wasn't tired or cranky or mean or rude or sad or any of the things I was imagining. Whew! He likes it.

I am a bit sad to lose him for such a big chunk of the day. He is such a huge helper around here & plays so well with everyone. He really is a such an easy kid these days. But I'm excited for him to be starting this grand adventure! (The thing he was most excited to tell me about the first day was how he got chocolate milk with his snack-exciting!!)

End of Summer (sort of)

As the end of summer is in sight & Hyrum starting actual school is looming (less than two weeks!) I wanted to mention our little co-op preschool we did last year for Hyrum. It was really fun-twice a week for a couple of hours each day & rotating weekly between our three homes. I enjoyed it & plan on doing it for my other kids but it's taught me one thing. I really don't think I'm made for permanent homeschooling! Not the best teacher award right here :)

Here is Hyrum with his two best buds Katelyn & Cole
(they get along sooo well)

Hunter loved it when it was at our house & would join right in with cutting, coloring, pasting, writing etc. He would cry sometimes when I dropped him off at the other homes because he wanted to go so much :(

We did have a few field trips-here's one to Jeremy's dental office where he talked to them about uh, teeth of course, they got a little check up & a bag of toothbrushes/toothpaste etc.

Here are all the kids (minus the 4 babies) at Bass Pro Shop learning about fish or really just running around screaming, let's be honest.

Courtney, me, Olivia, & Carolynn
The only sad part was when Cole & his family moved far away in March :( We miss them! Courtney was one of my favorite people in Missouri.

** On a happy & exciting note Hyrum read his very first book "See Pip Point" last Saturday!!! He has read two other books this week as well. He's been reading simple words for a while actually but for some reason I've never had him try a book. I thought he would get frustrated but he was smiling in between every word. I'm so proud!! And so glad that he loves it. He's getting better & better every day.

The Turners Travel

My brother Zac, sis-in-law Joy & their kids Anne, Andrew & Jackson moved from Pittsburgh to the the great state of Texas in July. Luckily for us Springfield was on the way so we were able to hang out for a few days together. We haven't seen each other for a year so it was so nice to catch up & the kids got along smashingly well.

(Thanks to Joy for all of the nice, professional looking photos-I'm sure you can all tell the difference :] )

We went to a few different parks, despite the heat. I love the top left one-impossible to get a smiling picture of everyone!

Big kids

There's a smile Justin!

3 babies in a tub

We sat out on the grass in left field for a Springfield Cardinals game! It was perfect for the kids to run around & be free. It started well in the first inning but quickly, quickly went down hill from there. Ah, well, we're bound to see them win someday.

After the baseball game we did sparklers-soooo cool!

Pool time! Anne couldn't get in the water with her cast but luckily she is an avid reader.

So much fun Turners! Come back any day ya'll :)
