17/08/19 - SRMR - BISHKEK/KYRGYZSTAN
Transpyrenées - day 1
Dear all,
After finishing 4 Transcontinental Race and applying for my 5th, I was disqualified without explanation from the organisation, just an automatic email saying : “Unfortunately your application was not successful in the ballot and we cannot offer you a place"
What a surprise/disappointment ! I was really dazed & confused…
I am a part of a short prize list consisting of 5 people. We finished at least 4 TCR, 1 did 6, none did 5 and 4 did 4. Dealing with this 5 applications plus the 10 first from last year… I could have expected a personal message but nothing… Transcontinental is not just a simple race, it is a spirit and a personal investment in many ways. I am living with this adventure since 6 years and now it is over. My feelings since a moment regarding Transcontinental Race are somehow confirmed by this defeat so it is time for new adventures and here it is !
I have the tremendous pleasure to announce my new project in Kyrgyzstan where maybe cycling is a detail but without any doubt, a big adventure. A journey, a race, through sensational mountains of Tian Shan in order to discover the legend of the Silk Road looking for the snow leopard. I will be a part of the amazing experience of the Silk Road Mountain Race.
Please find hereunder a video of the 1st edition of SRMR
As you can see my road-bike won’t be suitable for this odyssey so I am building a new bike with Genesis and Cyclable which is about to be ready, i will keep you posted about it.
Start: 17th August in Bishkek.

2018 is about to end and it’s time for an update, I am not used to bother people with this kind of exercise but I have to share an important thing.
As you know, one year ago I was travelling with my bike to Dieppe for a nice and peaceful ride to eat some mussels at the seaside but I never arrived. I had a very serious accident, I broke my femur in several pieces because of a very violent fall in circumstances I didn’t understand at that moment. I was alone on a road riding at 22 km/h in a very smooth mood when suddenly without any reason my bike run out in a turn.
I have been lying for half an hour on that road waiting for the ambulance, suffering like a beast, scanning the road and searching for a piece of oil, a clue that could elucidate my fall, but nothing… The nightmare started and lasted 2 months in the hospital after an important surgery. I have a 51 cm nail in my femur and few screws, my leg is now 2.5 cm shorter than the other. I let you imagine how things are more complicated and painful now.
Anyway, the important thing for now is that after coming back on the scene, analyzed and having thought, doubt about the circumstances, I can say what happened that morning because something was different on my bike that day.
I had new tires that a guy called Jean-Philippe gave me to try. In fact, he is the French distributor of the Compass Company.
I can say today that this f…. tires are responsible for my accident, there was no oil, no manhole cover, nothing… just a granular asphalt but absolutely no reason for my fall.
So I just have an advice and a conclusion:
DON’T EVER USE COMPASS TIRES, THEY ARE VERY DANGEROUS!
They have a good look and that’s it. I wrote to Jean-Philippe @211cycles who gave me this tires to let him know what happened and I am still waiting for his reply…
I won’t make them any problems but I need to share this information with the maximum people in order to avoid future accidents because I am not the only one.
Have a nice and safe ride!
Finally, at the end of the month, on 29th of July, I will be in Grammont at the start of my 4th Transcontinental Race
It has been a really hard time since my accident in October 2017. I was lying in a hospital during 2 months and I am still recovering from this terrible accident. I still can’t walk properly but I feel 10 times better on my bike rather walking, I still have a big nail in my femur and some screws, let us hope that this montage could handle this adventure through Europe. After a few rides in Portugal, Brittany and the Alps I could say that I have a kind of shape that should bring me to Greece.
This year the finish line will be once again in the Meteora, This 4000 kms route is once again really exciting according to me.
As you know, except the following check points that are listed herunder the route is free, we can ride days and night in order to arrive as quick as possible.
Control Point (CP1) : Bielerhöhe Pass (Silvretta-Hochalpenstraße), AUSTRIA
Control Point (CP2) : Mangart Sedlo, SLOVENIA
Control Point (CP3) : Karkonosze Pass, POLAND
Control Point (CP4) : Bielašnica, BOSNIA
From 10 PM on 29th July you can tune in at http://www.transcontinental.cc/ and follow the dots especially the cap 32 or use #TCRNo6cap32

Transalpina Tour 2018
An express tour in Bretagne!
My first “long” ride since my accident, it was 4 months ago and I went back at the place where it happened. Strange feeling… beside that there was a very cold rain all along but so good to be back on the road and have this amazing sensation of freedom!
After having a terrible accident on my bike the 24th October, I’ve been forced to lie in a hospital during 2 months. We are now 4 months away from having a big surgery which makes me look like Robocop. Hopefully and as the doctors are saying I might be able to be ready for the 6th Transcontinental Race in August, fingers crossed…
So i did my first ride since the accident Friday, 20k. It was hard but the feeling was here, I am confident and will do my best to be in Geraardsbergen the 29th July and try to finish this amazing adventure.
Keeping the faith
