Shelbi asked me to post an update for her about her sweet Libbie. Libbie Louine (named after Shelbi's grandma) was born on 2-07-09 at 9:27am. She weighed 5 lbs. 8 oz and is 18 1/2 inches long. She started off having some trouble breathing so they ended up putting her in the NICU eventually giving her her very own and very fashionable c-pap mask to help her breath. She was on oxygen at first but it wasn't too long before she was able to breath just the room air which is progress. They took the c-pap mask off of her on Sunday night and Libbie has done great.
Libbie has also started eating which is another marker she has to hit before she can come home. This is the earliest Denver and Shelbi have ever been able to hold or feed one of their babies. Although it is a tough situation for them, being able to hold and comfort their little girl makes it a little easier to get through each hour of the day.
They told Shelbi this morning that some blood test results have come back that show signs of an infection in Libbie's blood. They are going to do a second test just to be sure that it wasn't some contamination of the test and confirm that there really is an infection. The doctor is hopeful since Libbie isn't showing any other signs of an infection. Should there be an infection, they will do a spinal tap to find out what kind of infection it is and Libbie will be on antibiotics for 7 - 10 days at which time she will remain in the NICU.
Denver and Shelbi are amazing. They are dealing with it all incredibly well as far as I'm concerned. I guess unfortunately they are used to the NICU just being part of having a baby since this is the third time. Shelbi is doing well after her C-section. She is in much more pain this time than last but I guess it's to be expected since Cora was 2 lbs. 9oz when she was born and thankfully Libbie is bigger. Shelbi will be coming home soon and leaving little Libbie in the care of her wonderful nurses but will be visiting often. I'm sure she will be posting new pictures and updates then.
Thank you for your kind comments, prayers, and concern. It really means a lot to both Denver & Shelbi as well as their family. Below are some more pictures Libbie's Uncle Brandon was able to catch while in the NICU with Shelbi as she held Libbie for the first time. Don't I have a super cute new little niece! I think so too!!
I love you guys! Hang in there. There are many prayers being offered for your family at this time and we all know that helps more than anything.
So, as long as I have been given access to Shelbi's blog, I have to to admit it feels a little empowering. I mean, I can post whatever I want! Hmm, what funny/air head story should I share with you about Shelbi? Okay, maybe I'll spare Shelbi for now since she is one who is not afraid of going after a little revenge. However, I will say this.... Shelbi, you are one of my bestest friends I've ever had! I absolutely LOVE "hanging out", laughing till are faces hurt over STUPID juvenile things, and talking 15 times a day on the phone for hours at a time. It's nice to know we "get" each other when nobody else "gets" us. (I guess that comes from you tagging along with me for the past 27 years). You are the best and I don't know what I'd do without you. I truly treasure our friendship as one of the most important things in my life. I love you! (Ah come on now....that's nothing to cry about! Stop your blubbering and wipe your nose, you got a booger!! That's right Shelb, I got your back!)
Love,
Wendi
