SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – Twenty-one Army Reservists from the 807th Medical Command (Deployment Support) out of Salt Lake City flew home April 25 after spending three weeks onboard hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) providing medical assistance in support of Continuing Promise 2009 (CP09).

“This was a completely different kind of life than what we are used to in the Army,” said Spc. Nathan Boehringer, who worked in the emergency room onboard Comfort. “I got to work with people from all over the world. It was great. I loved being a part of this mission and doing good.”

CP09 is a four-month humanitarian and civic assistance mission to Latin America and the Caribbean region. The first stop was Haiti where medical treated nearly 7,000 people, filled more than 11,000 prescriptions and performed 161 surgeries onboard ship.

Comfort’s crew consists of more than 850 personnel at any one time, consisting of all branches of the U.S. military and interagency personnel, non-governmental organizations, civil service mariners, academia, and partner nations.

Of those, a large portion are part-time volunteers from various military and non-governmental sources who rotate in and out for varying time frames. For example, the Army reservists who just left were replaced by 20 more from the same unit. The new group of soldiers will remain onboard until May 14 and take over the same duties as the previous team. They will perform their duties in the Dominican Republic, then travel on to Antigua and Barbuda.

“It was a lot of fun being on the Comfort helping so many people and working with the Navy, Air Force, Canadian forces and other non-governmental organizations,” said Spc. Randi Durham, who worked in the operating room onboard Comfort. “This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for us in the Army. We don’t get to do this kind of thing and I’m glad we had a chance to be a part of it.”

This is the ship I will have the privledge to travel on for the next three weeks. The article comes from the website usns comfort and describes what my mission is about.I get on at point 4 on monday and travel to point 5 and so on until my time is up. I am so excited to do this once in a life time experience. I prey that god has prepared me and given me the max skills, and that I am able to give better than "my best". I also prey that my family is blessed with good times and happiness in my absence. Jay definatly knows how to keep their minds off the fact that mom is gone, with all the fun he musters up.

I cant wait to get home and post my story and pictures of the opertunities god puts before me. Tune in after the tenth to see what i got to see and experience.Thank you god!

Watch this boy close!

I never thought drake would try to play with fire. He did and he did it in a very small amount of time that i was not paying attention. I was outside with grama maxine and aunt trish saying bye and he was i thought in the house looking for tape. He found the candle lighters instead and tested it on his solid wood dresser. It worked apearently, the flame shot up to the plastic hangers above. Thank god and all the angels up there watching. I cleared the clothes from those hangers about a month ago so he could get dressed his self. Thank god and the angels again that drake is a super hero too and reacted very quickly to his mistake and went to the kitchen for a glass of water to throw on it. Thank god and the angels again that the fire took its time and a single glass of water did the trick.God bless halaluya!
I may have over did it on teaching him a lesson but no parent can ever be sure what is actually gonna make a differance in that curious little boys mind. I took all his toys and games away and told him they burned in the fire. he knows they didnt because they are still in his room, he just cant touch them untill he earns them back with good behavior and taking care of himself and others. I also made him watch what people look like when burned and what they have to go through to heal thank you youtube. Next week or maybe this week he will go to the fire dept. to talk with the fireman about fire, i might have a future fireman on my hands (lol) who knows.
I thought four was hard but i see five for this little guy is a whole new test for me. Yesterday he put a jellybean in his ear and jayda smacked him on the other side of the head to pop it out, mom and dad only seen the after math of that one. A week ago he got his finger stuck in a mug lid. You know the side without the straw that you sip from, it has a grid. I had to run his finger under cold water for about a min to get it to slip off. What is he going to try next? I now live in fear.

My first blog

"Where'd you go, i miss you so, it seems like forever since you've been gone." Thats a note in memory of Venus the best most beautiful dog in the world. I miss her daily she died last year around this time when she was hit by a car.
