Getting Ready for Christmas 2010

Geddy's surprise encounter with Geoffrey the Giraffe and "Santa" at Toys R Us. What I think is the beginning of Geddy losing his belief in Santa. This was quite possibly the worst "Santa" I have ever seen. You would think TRU could afford to get someone a little more realistic. I am not sure if Geddy believed my story about it being one of Santa's Helpers. Luckily Macey's had a good one that he enjoyed chatting with the week after this. I do have a picture from there, but alas my lovely computer is not wanting to scan anything today.
Geddy rediscovering his stuffed Rudolph in the Christmas decorations. I think he has hidden it somewhere so it won't go back in the basement when we pack up stuff this week. I haven't seen it since this picture was taken.
Geddy putting the star on top of our big tree.
 Ta-da!
Putting the Hirsche kiss on top of our little tree.
Geddy proudly standing next to the tree he decorated all by himself (except for the lights).

Our attempt at a family picture. Could have been better, but also could have been worse. And I just realized we forgot the cat!

Halloween 2010

Our Halloween "hang-ups" as Geddy calls them. They are kind of spooky, this is the first year he wasn't afraid of them.
 The Jack-O-Lantern Family
The normal Halloween village - not too spooky.
Our giant pet spider is catching his dinner.
Geddy is walking like a zombie.
 Our scary Halloween Village.
 Happy Halloween Boy!
The cutest little Ninja I have ever seen! Excitedly awaiting his party. I had planned on giving him a birthday party this year (in July), but he wanted to wait and have a Halloween party instead.
Batwiches and mini-mummies for the party.
 Party food.
Braddock, our first guest, and the only one I got a picture of!
Everyone watching Geddy's favorite Halloween movie, Spooky Bats and Scaredy Cats and eating the food.
Our "Put the skeleton together game". The kids were blindfolded and given a bone to attach to the skeleton. Can you tell which was the before and which the after?

Those brave enough to be turned into mummies! And they loved it so much they each did it a couple of times.
Coloring pictures in the aftermath of the mummies escape from their wrappings.

We did manage to carve our pumpkin the day of Halloween. Geddy designed the face this year and Scott and I carved it. Geddy still gets a wee bit disturbed by the gutting and carving process. He also is usually quite upset when it is time to throw it away. He was saved that trauma this year because someone stole it off our porch a couple days after Halloween.

First Day of Preschool (September 7, 2010)

Geddy started preschool at BYU this past September. He was super excited to go. He knew he had to have a new backpack for school. He chose this gigantic Transformers one.

He only used the backpack the first couple of weeks then he realized that he hardly ever brought anything home in it and it was kind of annoying carrying it around empty.
This is the outfit he chose to wear the first day. Sorry the pictures are a bit dark, our living room has terrible lighting and our computer struggles to load our photo editing program. But you can still see how adorable he is.
He had a bit of a tough time adjusting to preschool the first few weeks. Being around 19 other four-year-olds and five or six teachers for almost three hours straight every day was a big change from just being with mom. He is doing great now and says he is friends with everyone. His "best" friend changes every few weeks, but he plays with anyone and everyone. In fact the last week of school I went to pick him up before a little parent party they were having and he was "guarding Rapunzel's tower" for a couple of the girls who obviously had just watched Tangled. He is very entertaining at school, much like at home, and he loves having the audience of kids his own age. His favorite center is "creative play" which is basically just dress-up and pretend. The theme of the center changes every few weeks, it might be a store, or a pet shop, or a bakery or even a pirate ship. Geddy has made his own suggestions to the teachers of what it could be, "an airplane, a bookstore or even a hotel". Right now he is having preschool withdrawals as he is halfway through his four week holiday break.
I have many more pictures of him in preschool (taken unawares through the two-way mirror in the observation booth), but of course they are on the cell phone and we don't have the right card to transfer them onto. Some day!

Geddy's First Soccer Season - August/September 2010

The camera finally decided it was ready to download again!!! So I have pictures clear back to August to catch up on. We'll start with soccer.
Ready to go to his first game. A little excited, a lot nervous!
It took a few games before he was comfortable staying out on the field the whole game. He was rather intimidated by 20 or so kids just running randomly in a pack all over the field. He wanted to stay on the outside of it all, but wasn't always able too.
He had one bad experience coming off the field: he got ran over by the ref who was watching the play, not where he was going. After that Geddy wanted to quit soccer all together and decided he hated it (previously always one of his favorite sports).
Luckily we convinced him to stick with it and he loved it!

What a big boy!
Eventually the coach listened to our suggestion to try Geddy as goalie. This would allow him to play, but not get freaked out by the scrambling mass of 4 and 5 year-olds.
He loved goalie! Though after half the game he would want to be out running around because sometimes it was a little boring.
 Such a concentrating little face!
 Ready for action!

Of course, he did score one amazing goal! I think it was the second game and he just happened to be at the right place at the right time when the ball shot out of the mass right towards him. He took advantage and dribbled that ball all the way down the field and right in the net. He looked like a pro doing it. I think it really took both teams by surprise as they had previously only seen him as a crying little kid that acted like he didn't want to be there. Of course, I didn't have the camera with me that time! Oh well, he is super excited for next year and plans to be the big scorer on his team. He thanked me after the last game for signing him up for soccer and swimming lessons even though he didn't like either one of them to begin with.
