We actually went on a vacation this past August - a real road trip. It has taken me awhile to post about it, but you know how busy life gets. The first stretch was driving from home to my parents house in Northern California. It has been so long since we have done a lengthy drive that I was pretty worried about Geddy's attention span as we drove to our first stop which was in Reno. I spent hours and hours and decent amount of money making a bag full of activities for him to do. I will just say it now, he pretty much did none of it. He drew lots of pictures on blank paper, played with colored circle stickers and on the way home did some creative sculpting with pipe cleaners. But that was it out of my bag of puzzles and other fun stuff. He did take a great interest in choosing music to play on the car CD player, we had quite the variety so we made a rule that each CD could only be played once - otherwise we would have had to listen to lots and lots of Michael Jackson and Elvis! The important thing is he didn't get carsick which has been a problem in the past. Thank you Dramamine! Though I wish it had made him sleep some:) Now for a lot of pictures!
| Hour one of the trip, holding his Shoshio Silly Kitty and singing along with a CD. |
| Hour two - starting to get bored and sleepy! |
| Hour 3 - so done with this road trip thing. He never did say, "Are we there yet?" Scott had asked him not to and he actually obeyed! He did skirt around it by asking what time it was and then trying to figure out how long until our hotel as we had told him what time we expected to get there. |
| Hour 5 (I think) - "Don't take my picture Mom!" |
| Almost there and he is tired and getting a little silly. |
| Yeah, we made it to our hotel in Reno - and look who we got to park by - Herbie the Love Bug! |
| The next day we drove on to my parents house. Near Lassen Park there were a lot of forest fires so we got to drive through some really smoky parts. Geddy was absolutely perfect the second day - probably because he knew it was shorter than the first and he would get to see his Grandma Rayne and Papa Bruce! |
| Luckily once we headed more north the skies cleared and we could see. |
| Finally - Papa Bruce (and some Pokemon cards, of course). |
| And Grandma Rayne - he became obsessed with Crossword puzzles while we were there, especially word searches. |
| We spent one day over at the County Fair. Geddy attempting to do some roping! |
| And he caught something... |
| just not what he was trying to snag. |
| Tractor tricycles are not as easy to steer as one might think. |
| But milking the fake cow was a blast! |
| Putting out the forest fire was even better! |
| The petting zoo was pretty cool too. |
| Geddy thought it was pretty cool to pet an actual deer, he had been seeing the local herd that lives in my parents neighborhood but of course hadn't been able to get close enough to pet one of them - they're not THAT tame. |
| Mama and baby wallaby. |
| This little goat had a good time climbing all over the sheep. |
| And Geddy's favorite place a tent full of musical instruments that you could play. |
| I think he spent at least half an hour to an hour in here. |
| Very intently tapping out a beat. |
| The instruments were from all over the world and all time periods. |
| Scott even got in on the action. I had some fun too, but there was no one to take my picture...darn! |
| And of course, you can't go to the fair without going on rides! |
| With the cousins and a couple aunts at grandma and grandpa's house. |
| If I remember correctly, Aunt Beth (mom to the other three) was trying to get them to settle down by playing Simon Says. |
| Great Uncle Brian (and Aunt Linda) gave him a very cool Dinosaur Lego set. |
| Aunt Linda and Uncle Brian (and puppy whose name I can't remember) with the kiddos. |
| It was kind of hard to get them all to hold still. Geddy was a bit afraid of the exuberant puppy so wouldn't look away for fear she was going to jump on him or something. |
| Geddy loved playing with Grace. |
| Aunt Sarah and Uncle Dave and the kids. |
| Three of us girls - my right arm is extended so some day we can photoshop Carrie in. :) |
| Mom, Dad, me, Beth and Sarah. Again, Carrie can be photoshopped right next to me. |
| Sarah and Dave getting ready to ride their motorcycles back to Sacramento. Apparently this is a necessary step. I am sure it was much more fun for Dave than Sarah. |
| Aunt Sarah letting Grace get a feel for her ride. |
| And quite honestly, something I never thought I would see - one of my sisters riding a motorcycle! |
| Part of the neighborhood deer gang. |
| There are a lot of them and they are always around. |
| A tree stump over by the high school. Geddy was fascinated with its size. |
| The tennis pro! |
| Geddy got the camera. Yes he took pictures of me playing tennis. But that is the good thing about me doing the blog, I get to control what pictures get seen by the world. And those will never be. |
| Geddy befriended a neighbors cat that likes to hang out in my parents front yard when the deer aren't there. Geddy named him Sticks because he liked to play with sticks. |
| "We aren't getting too wild!" Four kids and a bouncy air mattress - somehow I don't think that statement is true. |
