a wonderland of sorts...

Dearest friends, family, and loyal followers: Once upon a time, a girl had an idea. She envisioned a wonderland where people of all ages could come together and find, in a beautiful mixture of all sorts, their something wonderful. She began her journey in a white box in east Fayetteville. While there, she met many of you, shared many joyous afternoon conversations, and collected treasured moments. Then, in 2010 she moved her dream to the Fayetteville Square. There were new treasured moments, new glass doors, new inspiring afternoon talks, and new cherished family and friends whose impact have further defined and personalized what this journey is all about. One of her favorite Good & Fair t-shirts reminded this girl on this evening that there’s a story behind every item in this quirky little store. Her story plucked her up and set her right where she needs to be. This journey, while thrilling, took her time. She missed friend’s weddings, best friend’s going away parties, and more nights of sleep you could imagine. She’s sold gifts and clothes for the past three Christmas Eve’s and she’ll continue to do so every single year. With the sacrifices, however, come great joys. Opening during a recession and completely from scratch is intimidating but has proven that it can be done. Hard work, perseverance, the support of family and friends, and not losing sight of the dream she envisioned of a lifestyle boutique has given her the drive to not look back once. She’s turned a white box into a wonderland of everything she loves. She’s created the Riffraff and Arkansas shirts that are now filling her closet. And, of course she’s found a staff that makes it so that she can’t take a day off, because she doesn’t want to miss a day of their company. As this wonderland approaches its 3rd Birthday in a week she gets giddy about the growth that comes with it. She hopes you continue to soak up the spirit of this funky little destination with her for many years to come. Your kindness, support, admiration, and compassion will continue to inspire this girl with each step she takes through the looking-glass and beyond. For that she cannot thank you enough. XOXO, Kirsten Blowers.

The “IT” Pastel.

Mint Green!  This color is HUGE.  Look for it on laid-back or more polished shapes! Pair it with neutrals for a can’t miss look.  I love it with a pop of a camel belt or a stack of gold bracelets!

Whit + LC

My favorite thing to do ever is recreating celebrity outfits with my own pieces. Whitney Port & Lauren Conrad are my current inspirations. They inspire me to "break the rules" in a way. They always find a way to make pieces work year round. As a Texas girl it is safe to say that over half my closet is dresses and skirts since it's always warm & sunny. But here in Fayetteville I definitely have to dress for the four different seasons and there is no point of only wearing something a couple months a year. So that's why whit and lauren are the perfect inspirations, even in the fall and winter they still rock summer dresses. My favorite way to do this is to put tights under spring dresses so I can stay warm. Another great way is to add a blazers over a tank or dress so you still get to wear the fun colors but are season appropriate.

Live In Color

One of the major trends we’re seeing in clothing for Spring 2012 is COLOR! Bright, bold and eye-catching colors will be stocking store shelves come Spring, and we are OH so excited about it all available for you right here at Riffraff! Color is ultimately what defines an outfit, and can give a look an extra pop that’s sure to turn some heads!

Wearing bright colors can be a great way to express your own unique style and personality, but bright colors can be a bit tricky. I love bright colors, but I also know that when buying clothes I tend to buy more neutral tones because I think I’ll get more use out of  them. That being said, a great way to spice up your favorite basics could be to throw a sheer, bright top over your favorite little black dress, wear a bold statement necklace with your favorite every day tee, or toss on a flashy scarf!  This is sure to add a little pazazz to your wardrobe!!!

My best advice is to not be afraid of color this spring! If you are hesitant on wearing flashy colors from head to toe start by buying bright accessories and mixing them in with some of your favorite basics!

Bold statement necklaces can add that extra pop or color, without being over the top!
Look for easy ways to acheive this look this spring right here at Riffraff!

Xoxo, Tarah

give a card, make a day!

In this day and age the art of sending and giving cards has been forgotten. We live in a world where mail is sent via the internet rather than the post office, where e-cards have replaced greeting cards. What about the joy of receiving and opening a letter in the mail? We want to bring it back!! At the store we have a huge variety of sappy, funny, sweet, and artsy cards for literally every occasion. Make someone's day and send them a card! Here are just a few of our personal favorites...

you and me dino card

all endings are also beginnings, we just don't know it at the time

you so fly

holy shit! it's your birthday

it's days like these i wish i had long monkey arms like you,
that way whenever we missed each other we could
just stick out our arms and practically touch.

in between carpool and getting our tattoos removed we must celebrate

you're just my type

congratu freakin lations!

Good & Fair Clothing

This past week we introduced an exceptional line on our floor that you need to know about!  Good & Fair is a Fair Trade company based out of Austin Texas who feature an all-organic line of tees and undergarments.

Here at Good & Fair Clothing, we are dedicated to using only fair trade and organic materials. We ensure fair wages for cotton farmers and garment workers internationally, as well as provide resources for those fighting to get out of poverty within our own community. Operating this way is challenging for sure, but we believe it's work worth doing.
The clothes we wear tell a story. Good & Fair Clothing gives us the opportunity to tell a story of respect, dignity, fairness and ultimately, love. People you have never met, whose hands make our garments and grow the cotton, were treated with respect and retained their dignity through honest work. They were paid fairly for their time and energy. Help us change the world by supporting Fair Trade and organic supply chains, like the one used to make our garments. Together our clothes can tell a better story: a Good & Fair story.

FAIR TRADE CERTIFIED
Good & Fair Clothing is a licensee of Fair Trade USA (formerly, TransFair USA).  Our clothing is Fair Trade Certified from the bottom up. We work with Fair Trade Certified production facilities to produce our tee shirts, ladies underwear and men's boxers.  Our supply chain is fair trade from the farm to the factory. This is new territory in the fair trade world.  We are one of the first clothing companies to sell Fair Trade USA certified goods.
100% ORGANIC COTTON
Our cotton garments are certified organic by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). The farmers who grew the cotton used in our garments were paid fairly for their cotton and farmed according to organic standards.

Will you be my friend?

I feel as if I went to sleep and woke up in the early 90s. I have fond memories of friendship bracelets, making them, trading them, and collecting them when I was younger. I wore them around my ankle, tied them onto the zipper of my pencil case, or stacked them up my wrist. To my joyful surprise, friendship bracelets seem to be making a comeback in bright hues to compliment the ever-so popular Spring trend. Starlets like Amanda Seyfried, Lauren Conrad and Nicole Richie have been rocking their BFF Bracelets and so should you.

I consider myself a very lucky lady to be surrounded by a pack of lovely girlfriends and some who will be accompanying me at NWAFW where, you got it… we’ll be flaunting this spring’s fun and quirky trend with confidence!

So in the spirit of friendship, dig out your old school friendship bracelets as well as check out the darling Bfrend Friendship Bracelet’s Riffraff (www.facebook.com/RiffraffFayetteville) will retail this spring!  I’m a supah fan of all these fun colors and designs and the nostalgia they represent.  Be sure to check my blog next (www.kirstenblowers.com) next week for a chevron pattern tutorial for your own DIY BFF bracelet.

- love, Kirsten
