sieben und zwanzig

So I just turned 27. A moment of reflection...not exactly where I intended to be at this age. But I didn't exactly follow my dreams anyways, there were a few unfortunate detours along the way.

I had to work, but everyone was really sweet wishing me happy birthdays, making a cake, and trying to help me out. I only work 3- 12 hr shifts a week so all my co-workers asked me why I chose to work on my birthday. Well, I just got home and had to work a full week. I didn't have much of a choice. Speaking of which, my mom was wonderful enough to make my most favorite cake in the wide world, banana nut with rum flavorered frosting while I was visiting. YUM!!! We also celebrated, Thomasin, Marta, and Emil's birthday as well. Which Thomasin is the only one to have a birthday in August. They loved it none-the-less. I still can't believe they don't like cake!

After work I met up with some friends to see Lord of the Rings at Wolf Trap music performed by the NSO. I really enjoyed it! It is kinda an inspiring movie, no matter how you get beat up, there still is good in the world, so keep moving forward steadfastly with your destination in mind. Lots of fighting, graphics, and hot men as well :)

My roommate made me a wonderful garden cake. I grew a garden this year. My first one in the Virginia clay soil. On a side note, I sadly realized today that everything is dying away. But the cake was great! Oh and I can't forget, the night before my roommates blew up balloons and wrote little messages on star sticky notes and posted them all over the kitchen, in my lunch bad, and in the fridge. I love my roommates!

Messages from my little star sticky notes my roomates posted all over (the fridge, on my shelf, in my lunch sack, all over the kitchen).

Get on your feet, and you can make it happen

Earlier in the week I went to the Delaware shores to visit a friend as well as escape the realities of life, and I spent Saturday in the nearby Shenandoah National Park hiking with my roommate. The best of both worlds. It was perfect weather for a hike. We started out early, trying to beat the heat. It didn't really get too warm that day, and it was overcast during the hike.

The last part of the hike up to the peak was a rock scramble. We did a little amateur rock climbing. A few parts I helped my roommate. I have a slight height advantage it made certain maneuvers easier for me. At one point, I am embarrassed to admit she had to give me a little love shove right in the bootie.

I was a little disappointed with the hike back to the trail head. We followed along a dirt road downhill. Our round trip time was quite impressive. At least to ourselves. At the trail head it says the hike will take 7 hrs, but we blazed the trail in 4 hrs. Yep, we a super hikers!

Southern Wonders

My roommie, Aubrey, is from the south and wanted to share with us some of the delicasies of the south. One of those yummy meals is Chicken and Waffles. We got extrememly lost on the way there. Good thing Aubrey has the "Y" sticker on her car, a couple of missionaries pulled up next to us and ended up helping us find out how lost we really were and use their map to gain a sense of direction. Kinda symbolic if I don't say so myself.

YummY!

Before we started...I told myself I was gonna eat the whole platter myself.

After it was over...I felt like I was going to explode my waffle chicken combo. It was delish!
