Hungry Boy

I am way behind in posting! Things have been so crazy around here with lots going on. We had a fabulous Thanksgiving and had tons of fun with family! I will post about all that later, but for now, I just wanted to show what Mr. Sam did this morning. He was hungry and looking for something to eat for breakfast. I offered several different choices to which he said NO each time. He said he wanted hot dogs. I explained to him that we don't eat hot dogs for breakfast, but he wasn't convinced. While I went upstairs to gather some laundry Sam went and got a package of hot dogs out of the freezer and started eating them!!!! He just tore the package and started chawing on them. Yummy! What a nut!

PS Steve and I are headed to San Francisco tomorrow morning for a long weekend to celebrate our 15th Anniversary. Yippee! We'll be sure to take lots of pictures and post next week.

Arrow of Light

Zachary will be turning 11 next month and has finished his Webelos and tonight he got his Arrow of Light. We are so proud of him for all the hard work he has done.

We are also very grateful to Zac's Webelos leaders, the Christiansens who did a fabulous job and are really the ones who helped Zac achieve this award. Thank you, Dan and Corein!

Pillars of Freedom

Tonight at the school they had Veteran's night to show all the projects that the 8th graders have been working on. They did something relating to veterans in just about every subject from writing a tribute to put on the "pillars of freedom", to doing a science project on artificial limbs, to doing a math project showing percentages of veterans from different wars, etc. It was a very neat presentation. Charity chose my Grandpa Stander to write about and this is my mom standing next to his "pillar" tribute.

Flying Rockets with Daddy!

What a beautiful day to be outside. Daddy took the kids to the park to launch rockets this morning. (I was making pies with Kenny & Robyn) They each got a turn to launch a rocket.

Retrieving the rockets was quite an adventure some times.

Matthew with the rocket (I think it was a space shuttle?) he got to launch.

Emily and Cinder watching.

Birthday Time

It's birthday time at our house. We celebrated my birthday on the 4th by setting up for a Relief Society dinner and then Steve took the kids and I to dinner (sorry, no pictures). And then today was Charity's 14th birthday. I really cannot believe my little girl is already 14!!!! Where did the time go?!? She had some friends spend the night to help celebrate.

Grandma bought Thumper pj's at Disneyland for Charity.

Showing off her new pajamas --over her clothes!
Charity has a thing for pajamas, especially pj pants. She owns about 25 pair and that is still what she asks for!

Showing off her new clothes and her CELL PHONE. Yes, we finally gave in and let her have a cell phone. She was SO excited.

Silly Girls

I love that my girls are good friends. Don't get me wrong, they are still sisters and fight like cats, but they are best of friends. Quite often they can be found doing goofy photo shoots or making silly videos together. They are a riot and giggle like. . .well, like little girls. This is from their latest shoot.

Halloween

Ready to go! Zac is Anakin, Sam is a ninja, Matthew- a power ranger, and Jeremy is a pirate. Cinder, of course, is a pumpkin. She was very tolerant of us dressing her up!

Emily with her friends, Amber and Tearra
(I'm still waiting for pictures of Charity--she was at a friend's house)

Cinder and Tootsie!

The Elders?

Sam found this pillow and took off the pillowcase to use as a sleeping bag. This is how we found him! Isn't he cute?!?

As a side note. Mom had her second round of chemo today. Things went really well and we had a good time while we were there (it takes about 4 hours). The nurses told us that mom probably will NOT loose her hair. Yippee! I guess the wigs can just be for fun, right?
Unfortunately, the Dr.'s office called this afternoon to say that her blood sugar was through the roof and she needed to go the ER. So, instead of welcoming all of her grandkids in costumes, she spent the night in the ER. They admitted her to the ICU and started her on insulin to try and get things under control. When it rains, it pours, eh?

Sleepy boys

I guess being the youngest, Sam gets away with later bedtimes due to our laziness. This night he went and lay next to Cinder and fell asleep while we were finishing up on the computer.

Again, Sam waiting for us to come tuck him in. No nap today, so he didn't last very long.

This is the funniest picture. . . Matthew actually fell asleep across my lap just like this! He really is asleep. I have no idea how he was comfortable enough to fall asleep, but he did it!

Brunette?

One of the fun things we have done with Mom is to go wig shopping. There are some fun pictures on her blog. Today we went to a new place and the ladies there were phenomenal! We found one that is almost identical to Mom's hair color and do. While Mom was checking out, Kathie and I started playing around and this is what we came up with. Not bad, eh? For $150 it can be mine. . .

Home Improvement

I have been wanting to get rid of the bookshelves in the family room for quite a while now and I finally got my wish. It was time for our bulk trash pick-up and I told Steve this was a great opportunity to take them out. So, we spent the entire day clearing off shelves, finding new homes for everything, tearing out and chopping up the bookshelves. After we got them out we decided it would look better if we took out the brick pillars that went up from the mantle. So, we took those out as well. Then we decided to get rid of our couches. What a breath of fresh air! Now all we need is some new furniture, new paint and new flooring. . . .
I love being a happy homeowner!

Honor Roll

I am so proud of my kids. They always do so well in school. I'm not sure where they got the brains, but somewhere along the line, something went right. Zac and Emily both made Honor Roll this quarter and Charity made Principal's List (4.0 gpa).

Softball

Emily played softball with her school this month and made the All-Star team. She had never really played before this and she caught on very quickly. She played really well. These pictures are from her last game, which they won!

Pictures

I found some frames a couple months ago that had a little saying about sisters on it and bought one for each of my sisters. That meant we needed a picture to put in it, so while Wendy was down we went and had some pictures taken. We took Mom along and got some with her as well. It was so fun and they turned out awesome!!

Zippidee doo da

One of Sam's favorite rides at Disneyland was Splash Mountain. Part of the ride you go through the land of Brer Bear and Brer Rabbit and they sing the "Zippidee doo dah" song. Sam still sings it quite often and does it so cute I had to share.

Dress-Up

Zac had his friend Alec over and they decided to play dress-up. Sam had to get in on the action, too. Lookin' cool!

Rid'em cowboys!

1st Chemo

Today is the day--Mom's first chemo treatment. Auntie Dar came up from Tucson to join in the festivities. Jennie, Kathie, and I were also there with Mom. Everything went very well, it just took forever. We were there from 8:30 until about 2pm, I think. We had our own little room and we brought lots of munchies and some games and movies to help pass the time.
Wendy put together a "chemo" backpack for Mom. It has all kinds of goodies--kind of like a survival kit. Very cute! Mom loved it.

Some of the boys shaved their heads last night to show their support and love for Mom. Rebecca was nice enough to pick up the pictures and bring them to the Dr.'s office for Mom to see. She was very touched.

Dinosaur Museum

My kids are out of school today, so we decided to take a trip to the Mesa Southwest Museum, also known as the dinosaur museum. We took Grandma with us since she's never been and we are always looking for more time to spend with her. Not great pictures because all I had was my camera phone, but better than none, right?

Last Day at Disneyland!

Time went by too quickly. I can't believe it's over already. We spent our last day here running to try and see everything "one more time". We got to spend some time with Amy this morning, too, so that was nice. Today is Mom's official birthday--we've been celebrating all week. I am so blessed to have such an amazing Mom. I couldn't ask for better. Even in the midst of trial and uncertainty she is so full of faith and courage. She is such a strength to me. I love you, Mom! Happy birthday! Thanks for letting us share this week with you.

More Monday & Jedi Training

Despite the crowds we had a fantastic day. The highlight of the day was doing the Jedi Training. For those who have never seen this--it is a must! They choose kids from the audience to come be trained as Jedi. As they complete their training, Darth Vader and Darth Maul come out with some clone troopers. It is intense. They go 'all out' in making it very realistic! Each of the kids gets to fight one on one with either Darth Maul or Darth Vader. Of course, the good side always wins! We made the mistake of talking it up for Sam and then he didn't get chosen--major bummer!!! He cried and sobbed during the whole presentation! Poor kid.
