Good Memories

MONDAY, September 28th

My kids were out of school on Monday so we decided to take Mom to the zoo. Kathie and Jack came with us. The weather had cooled off a bit and so we took advantage of it. It did get pretty warm by the time we left. The kids each took turns pushing Grandma in her wheelchair and trying to wheel around her oxygen tank with it. They played in the water for a bit and 'splashed' grandma to keep her cool, too. It was a great day.

TUESDAY, September 29th

Tuesday, Mom spent the day with Jennie, Lynda, and Kathie. Jennie collected porcelain dolls for many years and decided that it was time to sell some, so they spent the day taking them out of storage, cleaning them and taking pictures of them--and eating--what is a get-together without food?

WEDNESDAY, September 30th--Mom's birthday!!

John (& little Brookie), Rachel and I took Mom to breakfast at IHOP. Then Rachel and I took Mom for pedicures. It was one of the few things Mom did for herself and she had been wanting one for a long time. Now, she'll have beautiful toes forever. :)

When mom was first diagnosed someone got her a musical card and Sam fell in love. Then we gave her another one. Every time we went to Grandma's house Sam would go over to her basket and find those musical cards and carry them around while we were there. Then one day, a few months ago while at the store Sam found one that sang "You are my Sunshine" and we had to get it for her. He would take that one out and sing it to Grandma. So, what else would Sam want than to give her another musical card for her birthday?!? He was SO excited to give it to her.
Emily and Grandma share a great love for Disneyland and Mickey. Emily came up with the idea to make her a Mickey cake for her birthday. Isn't it cute?!?

Happy Birthday, Mom! We love you!

I feel so blessed to have had this day to share with you.

Back to School

Steve bought a guitar on Saturday and is SO excited about it. This is how we found him when we got home from church yesterday. He's already learned a few chords and was serenading us all afternoon.

My sweet, beautiful girls! I am so proud of these two! Charity is a freshman this year--I really can't believe we're to that point already! She has been anxiously awaiting her first day! Emily is in 8th grade this year and for the first (and only) time in her life is not going to the same school as her sister. She's really looking forward to being the "big man" on campus.

My handsome boys! Zac is in 6th, Jeremy in 4th, Matthew in 2nd and Sam will start preschool in a few weeks. I have mixed emotions about having them all in school. I'm excited and happy to have some 'free' time but will really miss having them around. Even today, with just Sam here, it is SO quiet. It's really weird. But, it's very nice, too! :)

Beautiful Colorado!!

We have been in Colorado for 10 days now and have 7 more to go. We couldn't have asked for better weather. It has rained almost every afternoon, usually just long enough to cool the air a little. We spent last week at my brother, Mike's house in Colorado Springs. We went to a few parks, the North Pole (an amusment park), rode the cog railway to the top of Pikes Peak, and played with his sweet little girls! It was so nice to be able to spend so much time outdoors. We also had the chance to help them with some painting, which was fun. Mike has been remodeling the basement and he let me help a little. He's such a sweetheart and I so enjoy spending time with he and Laura, who is also a big sweetheart. Thanks again for everything!

On Friday we had the chance to visit a very old family friend, Gail. Gail used to babysit us Bowler kids when we lived in California. She was such a saint--actually she still is. She got married and had just had her 3rd baby when we moved from San Jose. She is now the mother to 13 kids!!! I don't think there is anything this woman can't do--she is SO talented. We went out to their home in Brighton and reminisced and had such a good visit. We got to meet most of the kids (there are 10ish currently at home) and they even fed us dinner (18 of us + 13 of them). They are an amazing family. My mom is also here in Colorado and came down with Wendy and her family. Mike and his family also came, so it was like a little family reunion.

Friday night we all headed back to Wendy's house in Loveland for the 4th of July. We had a BBQ and then Wendy's oldest, Jacob was baptized that afternoon. What a cool thing to be baptized on the 4th. After that Mom went home with Mike and Laura to spend a week with them. Mom was too tired to stay for fireworks so they took her home and tucked her in bed. We will stay here and spend the week with Wendy. It started raining just before the baptism and we were worried the fireworks would be rained out but thankfully, the rain stopped about an hour before the fireworks were supposed to start and so we grabbed our stuff and found a spot on the lake to watch the fireworks. It was so cool! We were right there and could see them being launched(they shoot them off from the middle of the lake). The boys got such a kick out of it.

I don't have access to put any pictures up yet but I will as soon as I can. Sorry. In the meantime, we are going to enjoy the week with Wendy and her kiddos! We're going to the zoo tomorrow and then we'll spend a few days up the canyon and in Rocky Mountain Natl Park & Estes Park. More beauty! I love it!!! This is a great place to be this time of year.

Another one bites the dust. . . .

***The following post is not for the faint of heart***
I guess this is how our summer is going to be. I got a phone call tonight just as I was getting home to make dinner that Emily had hit her head in the pool at her friend's house. I ran over there to find a table full of blood-soaked paper towels and a frightened group of girls, including Emily. She was a tough kid, though. We got the bleeding to stop and thanks to our medical supplier, Auntie Jennie, we were able to save ourselves a trip to the ER. We got it cleaned up and I used dermabond (superglue for the skin) to seal it up. Good as new. . . minus a little bit of hair we had to cut off-- I think that was the most traumatic part for Emily.
Do I dare ask what else this summer is going to bring?

(Yes, we take pictures. The kids love looking back and reminiscing their battle wounds)

Enjoying the "cool" weather!

Charity and Emily are at girls camp this week enjoying the cool weather up north. We miss them and can't wait to hear all about it. The boys and I have been trying to get out and enjoy the weather since it hasn't been scorching hot this week. It's been between 80-90 which is unheard of for June! Steve took them to the park on Wednesday. Yesterday we went to the zoo, saw the animals and then played in Yakulla Caverns, the new water playground. The boys had a blast. We're off to the Children's museum today and then swimming! Yippee!

Summer Fun!?!?

Oh what do you do in the summertime?!?
Well, Sam probably won't be doing those things. He was playing with Matthew on the monkey bars last night and fell and broke his arm. Sam is such a tough kid-- I knew it was serious when he cried for over an hour and was crying again this morning. I laughed out loud when the Dr. listed all the things Sam is not supposed to do. Running, jumping, climbing, throwing, slides, playgrounds, water, etc. Have you met my kid?!?! Ya right.

He was such a brave boy and did exactly what they told him too and is very excited to have a cast on. Well. . . . he was excited until I had to help him go to the bathroom yet again tonight and help him wash his one hand. He let out a big sigh and asked "how much longer do I have to have this on, Mom?"

On another note, Steve and his brother Wayne left on another motorcycle ride tonight. They are heading up through Colorado again and will be gone for six days. We sure will miss having our daddy here but hope they have lots of fun!!

Last night for Family Night we took the kids to the drive-in to see Pixar's new movie "Up". The movie was hilarious and we had lots of fun. Kathie and John and their families went as well but we were the only ones who stayed for the double feature until 12:15 am. If you haven't had the chance to go the drive-in lately I would highly recommend it. It's a great adventure!

Yes, We're still alive

I know many have wondered if I was ever going to get back on track with this blog, (including myself). Life is so busy and crazy and once you get a little behind it seems to add up even faster. So, I'm making a new start today! Hopefully, I will get back to posting the past 5 months, but in the mean time I am starting with this weekend.
Ready to GO!

We had a very fun weekend starting with the Father & Sons campout. The boys were SO excited to go camping with their daddy. They went up to Dugas Road where it was a tiny bit cooler than here. They brought the dirt bikes up and rode them all Saturday morning. They were extremely tired when they got home, but had a blast.
Where's dad gonna sleep?

What boy doesn't love throwing rocks in the water!?!

Matthew

While the boys were away, the girls and I had a fun night of shopping up at Desert Ridge and then came home to watch a movie. The girls ended up watching it by themselves because my brother, Mike, was in town and came over to visit. We ended up talking until 1:30 in the morning. Yes, I'm still tired. :) The house was so quiet Saturday morning--Emily asked if the boys could just stay gone until late that night. Nice try, Em! They came home early afternoon and we went swimming over at John's house to celebrate Savannah's birthday. After that the girls and I went to a baby shower for our good friend Lynda. It was quite the full day, but very fun!

Mother's Day

I think today was one of the best so far. There was nothing extraordinary, just a quiet day with family. There was a sweet spirit here all day that just made it great. Steve and the kids made me pancakes for breakfast and then we went to church. Then the kids and I baked for a few hours. Each of them took a turn making something with me. It was really fun. At 3:30 all of the Bowlers came over for a potluck so that everyone could get a chance to visit with Mike while he is here (and to see Mom!) We had a wonderful visit with everyone. I love family!!!
We ended the day by going over to see Steve's mom and dad. We are so grateful for good parents and family that do so much to help us and give us encouragement.
Happy Mothers Day to all of you!
