A Homemade Christmas

I've been making digital scrapbooks for family members this year and I've been dying to put them on the blog, but, HELLO, that would take the surprise away to may family who are getting the gifts! So finally, here are some of my favorite pages now that the big day has come and gone!

Wyatt's Christmas Concert

I have a ton of pictures about Christmas to share with you, but for now enjoy my genius son in his first solo concert performance. Mothers, try not to feel discouraged, not all children can be this perfect!

Bah Humbug!

It hits me every year! I over do it starting the day after Thanksgiving and then I just poop out. I started to feel it a few days ago. Requests were being asked of me that I just didn't have the energy to accomplish, but I did it anyway. I've been staying up way too late for the past 2 weeks, then sleeping in a little bit, only to rush for the rest of the day because I didn't get up early enough. Getting bad news about several friends have been making my heart hurt for them. It all takes it toll and my well is dry! Why is it that I allow outside obligations to take over, causing me to have nothing left for my family or myself? I understand that this is to be the season of giving, but sometimes I feel like I've given too much of myself sometimes. Whatever the reason, I've got to regain my stamina and get out of this grumpy mood. Even my dog is grumpy, he's eaten three bags of fudge and now growls at every body. I'm trying to work on this "oh so lovely" mood I'm in. Just give me a day or two.

P.S. Add an unknown number of bags of peppermint playdough to Duke's fudge. Just found the massacre of baggies on the floor.

I am watching "Singing in the Rain" working on a craft that is for my own home, Wyatt is sleeping soundly, and there is a blanket of white snow falling outside my window. I am in heaven!

It is snowing!!!!!!!!

Snow is Vegas! What a rare treat! Looks like it might stick!

From the words of Tony... I've Been Slackin'!

So my friend Tony noticed that my frequency of posts has gone down considerably (never mind the fact that his last post was from Halloween! Whatever!). But he is right. I still love to post and I think of things to write about, but for the most part my brain is just tired. My house can't seem to get in order, and I'm having a hard time keeping track of the things to do on my Christmas list. I am trying my best to do Christmas activities with Wyatt everyday, and then nap time is spent rushing around the house trying to eliminate an every growing list. I keep thinking, "Next week will be better. If I can just make it to next Monday!" Why do I always feel so scatter brained during the holidays? To help me see what I have gotten accomplished and have been able to enjoy, here's a list of what we've done this holiday season!

  1. R.S. enrichment dinner
  2. Mom's ward Christmas party
  3. Wyatt's first sleepover at Grammy's and date night for me and Byron (sushi and a movie)
  4. Help decorate for my ward Christmas party
  5. Spend three hours at Kohls trying to complete a new Christmas outfit
  6. Our ward Christmas party
  7. Taking Gramma Jeri and Wyatt to ride the Boulder City Santa train only to find out they were completely sold out for the day, went to Hoover Dam and RC Willy instead, left my purse at Red Robin
  8. Curled up in my bed and watched White Christmas while listing to the wind howl outside (actually my favorite so far!)
  9. Had a game night with some old friends and new friends, laughed till my stomach hurt!
  10. Wrapped most of Wyatt's Christmas presents because he kept finding them.
  11. Baked 2 pumpkin roll cakes
  12. Taught Wyatt's preschool, made I is for Icicles, remembered that I liked teaching
  13. Put up new outdoor Christmas decorations and created a new garland for the stairway (that may be its own post soon)
  14. GOT ANOTHER FLAT TIRE! THAT MAKES 2 IN THREE MONTHS! AHHHHHHH!
  15. Walked through the Cowboy Christmas Show, bought my parents presents! (No Mom, you don't get your own cowboy!)
  16. Booked the KB Plumbing Christmas party at ChuckeCheese! (When the kids out number the adults, the kids get first pick!)
  17. Printed out Christmas cards, though they still need to be cut and mailed!
  18. Wyatt went to the potty on his own three times in one day!

OK, I'm feeling little better. I have accomplished some things, no matter how random they are. Tomorrow I sing and Byron speaks in church. That'll be just one more thing to add to my list.

You Better Watch Out, I'm Telling You Why, Nini is Coming BACK to Town!

For those who don't know, my "Nini" is my grandmother and over Thanksgiving weekend she moved back to Vegas from Pahrump! This sassy 80 year old women just moved into her very first brand new home that belongs to just her. It was a very exciting moment! The house is adorable and we are so glad that she is closer to us. We're looking forward to a Nini-Wyatt playdate real soon!

Wyatt's words

Me: Wyatt, are you ready to get out of the bath?
Wyatt: Not 'et Mommy, not 'et.

(While playing fetch with the dog)
Wyatt: Swop the ball, swop it! (Drop it)

(In the bath tub, splashing me with water, Wyatt holds up his toy life preserver and says...)
Wyatt: Here Mommy, the "necker-ring" will save you."
Me: What, like a nectarine?
Wyatt: Yeah, the "necker-ring."
(In his defense, it is a ring that goes around your neck!)

This morning I walk into Wyatt's room while he was doing a puzzle...

Wyatt: I doing great! (Clearly, he takes pride in his puzzle skills)

(While admiring himself in his camo hat and Bass Pro Shops t-shirt)
Wyatt: I'm a hunter daddy!

REEEEBBBEEELLLLSSS!

Our neighbors have family season passes to all UNLV Rebel basketball games and what's that? They can't go? Can we go? Um, yeah!!!!!! We tried to get a hold of my parents to babysit Wyatt, but had no luck. So Wyatt attended his first UNLV game and had a great time. I think I saw almost every family member of Kristin and Amy there. Is there anyone in your family that doesn't have season tickets?

Side note: On the way home, while waiting in traffic, we overheard some guy just screaming at his girlfriend about talking to another guy on her cell phone. As Byron and I were making comments about this guy's temper, Wyatt chimed in, "That's guy's got 'sishoues' (issues)."

Not so Thankful for Thanksgiving

I'm going to be ruthlessly honest. And my honesty is not meant to offend anyone. Just some thoughts I've been pondering. I do not enjoy Thanksgiving. I do not look forward to the debate of which family's turn is it. I do not look forward to the overeating of turkey and stuffing that sits in my stomach like lead. And what's the deal with having dinner at 3:oo in the afternoon?

What were the moments on Thanksgiving Day that I treasured? The rain. The crisp walk to the store to buy apple juice. My family's reaction to Wyatt's Indian costume. My grandmother's excited reaction when I brought out the Uno card game. Winning the first round of Uno! Those things are what I was thankful for this Thanksgiving.
