The art of Black & White Photography

Thank goodness we all see the world in vivid colors! The sky is blue with fluffy clouds of white, the oceans are deep blue, a shade of cyan or turquoise. The mountains and the forest are stunning with different hues of greens and browns. A rainbow just wouldn't be rainbow if we could not see the spectrum of colors in its formation. However, a good photographer will sometimes see and compose in Black & White. Yes, there are certain conditions in a photograph that just call for Black & White. Here are a few examples:
I hope you enjoy.

A few more samples of the Black and White Gallery, No doubt about it, certain photographs look even better in black and white than color. If you are using Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom, use the saturation slider and adjust until you get the desired effect. Then add sepia tone or a blue gray tone to enhance.  I think you will like the results.

For The Birds . . .

Of all of God's wonderful creatures to look at, I think birds top the list. There are so many species, colors, and sizes, the variety seems limitless. If you are careful not to invade their space and are quiet even with a camera, you can capture some of their beauty and elegance. Hope you enjoy . . .

While we are on the subject of birds . . .I will add a few more from the archives of fine, feathered friends.

Archives

As you may know, Photography captures the good, the bad and the ugly. I particularly like the aspect of the Human Form in many states of work, play or whatever especially if it is candid. I dug through some archives to share.

New England Trip 2006

These last three particular photos are taken on Martha's Vineyard in the Spring of 2006. An  extraordinary place where I just happened to meet an extraordinary person; Joan Lunden, while my oldest son and I were waiting on the ferry back to the mainland.
