Ten Years

That's right folks this weekend is my 10 year high school reunion. I have managed to be in denial about this event for the past several months (mostly because I knew I was unable to attend since I am only an intern and don't have any vacation time). But reality set in last night when one of my best friends in the world called me to inform me she was picking up members of the old gang to go hang out. Seriously she dropped names I haven't even thought of since the day we graduated. CRAZY! What was funny was it was completely normal on a Friday night to gather up these people and go watch a move or just "cruise." (I wonder if anyone "cruises" still with $4 gas?)

The other funny part about this is I don't feel 10 years older. Sure I've graduated from college, had my first job, got married, own a house, have 2 dogs, quit my first job, went back to law school, and am about to finish up law school. But surely I only graduated from high school a month ago. I can still remember the day so well. I can remember that is was cold in the morning and everyone had to wear warm clothes under their graduation robes. I remember making the rounds to my friend's graduation parties and them stopping by mine. I remember the senior all night party where we went to this park and watched the sun come up and then went and had a breakfast at our local greasy spoon. Surely that wasn't 10 years ago.

But I have been blessed and I am so thankful for the fond memories I have of high school. I made some amazing friends back then. (A few of which I am lucky enough to still be in touch with.) I am also glad high school is over with its ups and downs and confusion about life. But sometimes maybe it would be good to return there (if only for a weekend) and forget about the stresses of life and just hang out with old friends.

So to my friends who did get to go I hope you guys had a great time. As for me, I'm going to continue denying that I'm getting old :)!

Enginerd

I use to joke I was an enginerd (instead of engineer) but I always knew being an engineer was cool!

Back to Work

I started my summer internship last week. HOLY COW I forgot how hard it was to actually work a 40 hour a week job. While law school is hard it's totally different than a full time job. Anyhow, last week was my first time to contribute a full 40 hour work week to the gross domestic product. Look at me stimulate the economy! I'm really enjoying my internship so far. While it's a continuation of where I worked last spring I am in a different department which has a different atmosphere that I'm really liking. So even though I didn't have much to post I thought I'd let my loyal readers know I'm not gone... just waiting for something exciting to happen!

It is finished

Clay and I actually finished the deck project a couple of days ago. But this week I started my summer internship and Clay started his summer course and we're dog sitting for a friend of mine so everything has been a bit hectic. But without further ado here is the finished product!

Before... well kind of we had already laid out the border when I thought to take a picture

Another before looking towards the street

Here are the materials we used. Seriously, 2 guys showed up and unloaded all of this in slightly less than an hour.

Slightly less than 3 tons of dirt

300 sq feet of rock

Of course no project is complete without an injury. Here is my massive blood blister I received when I hit my finger with the rubber mallet I was using to pound down the border. Yes it hurt!

Garden area mock up

And last but not least the finished product. We haven't completed the rock wall for the garden (that will be sometime next weekend) but the patio is done.

Walkway from the driveway to the back. The little bush is hopefully going to grow up and somewhat hide the ugly meter from view!

View from the gate. The little plant in the middle is Clay's attempt at home grown tomatoes. We'll see how that goes. We still need to find a permanent home for them.

View from the backyard

View of the canas in the garden.

So that is probably more pictures than anybody wanted to see. Clay and I are pleased with our little patio. Now I just have to find some patio furniture. Nothing big. We're not hosting dinner parties here. It's more of place to sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine in the evening!
