More please...

Ben's 3rd birthday.

Ben brought me some candy that he found and wanted me to open it. This is what he said...

"Mimi, I want to bite that..."

I love the things that kids say. SO cute! Then when he was finished he said....

"I NEED more! More please..."

How can you not give him more candy when he is that cute. :)

M.I.A.

So yes, I know. I have been a little M.I.A. in the blog world. I've just lost the blogging gusto. But I figured we did need an update from Halloween pictures. :) Plus Ben turned 2 in February and he deserves his cute little birthday noted on the blog even if it is a month late. Sorry Ben.

We had a small party with just a couple friends. Ben is obsessed with everything "Curious George" right now... so we took on a monkey or "George" theme for the party. I made a monkey cake, yellow and green color scheme, and had banana slush for our little monkey guests to drink. We also had Ben's favorite dinner, Pizza. At least that was his favorite at the time... in toddler style, we have moved on from Pizza, that was SOOOO last week. :) Thanks to all who sent gifts... He actually caught on to the "opening presents" thing and was excited to see what was inside the paper and boxes. He had a nice little pile of loot. THANKS everyone!!

It is warming up nicely here in OK. We are already planting flowers and working on our vegetable garden. I love that it warms up earlier here. Winter was just the right amount of time. Not too long. Now it's tornado season, so we'll see what adventures that brings. Hopefully I will have nothing exciting to report on that front.

Ben is a riot right now. He is talking more and more. I have to say that it is SOOOOO nice to add the communication factor to our relationship. I love that he can verbalize what he wants. Not that he always gets it, but its great that he can tell me. He knows lots of letters, is getting good at his shapes and the way he counts is SOOOO cute. He loves the "teens" numbers... he likes to jump ahead to those. He also LOVES to say hi and bye to everything. For example, while we are driving he will see a tree, or water, or a color ie. purple, or a cirlce and he will say "Hi circle..." and then "Bye circle..." when he can't see it anymore. I love it. He still calls me "Mimi" which I hope lasts forever. But it won't. They just grow up too darn fast.

Kyle is busy shucking teeth up at the Oral Surgery Clinic and sewing up drunk guys during the middle of the night in the Emergency Room. But he loves it, go figure. Gross.

I am still busy trying to get our house decorated. I LOVE decorating projects. And since residents don't make millions, I can just do one little project at a time. So slowly but surely our little house is taking shape. Thanks to CraigsList, Thrift Stores and Home Depot. :) So far we have been happy out here in Oklahoma... not a bad place to visit if you're interested. I am putting together a pretty cute guest room/office with a comfy bed!!!! Am I tempting you?? I hope so. :)
Here are some pictures from Ben's birthday bash...

Grrrr. I was going to post a bunch more random pics from the last acouple months, but I am having troubles uploading any more pictures. We have really slow internet so that might be the problem. I will try again tommorrow. xoxo.

Officer Sorensen on patrol...

Officer Sorensen was out on patrol Halloween night. He apprehended many offenders. The streets were safer 'cause he was out.... he he he. Ben portrayed a cop perfectly. He had the serious face, the swagger and he left the aviator glasses on the whole time! I expected him not to even want to wear them but he must have known how bad A he looked. :) Me and Kyle recycled our "burglar" costumes from last year (lazy, I know)... get it... cops and robbers!!

Anyway, Ben LOVED when I would gel his hair and draw on his moustache. I stood him in front of the mirror and he held perfectly still and would smile and giggle when I was done. He dressed up three times... playgroup, ward party, and Halloween night for a neighborhood/friend party. A day or two after Halloween he found a pen, went and climbed up on the step stool in the bathroom and drew his own 'stache on!! (pic later on) When I went to find him because he was so quiet and saw what he had done I was laughing so hard. What a goofy kid Ben is.

We are doing good out here in the Oklahoma territory. We had a cold spell for a few weeks but now it is REALLY nice. So nice in fact that my body is all confused as to what time of year it is. I can't believe it is really November. It is 75-80 degrees and sunny. We play at the park almost every day and we are in short sleeved T-shirts!! NOVEMBER people!! But we are enjoying it anyway. I do really miss Connecticut though. Right now the Fall beauty (well that was actually mid-Oct back there) but mostly just everything.... that part of the country holds a really special place in my heart. Sigh. Kyle is on an easier rotation right now where he doesn't have to take "call" so that is nice... no nights alone for four months WAHOO!

Ben is so funny. He has the quirkiest personality, guess we know where he gets that. :) He still calls me "Mimi" which I love. The tantrums have definitely started. A couple weeks ago I got slapped in the face for the first time. That was fun. He has never hit or pushed anyone at home or at nursery or anything... I guess I got to be the lucky one. It HURT too... physically and emotionally. Teaching a little human how to manage their anger and frustration is not a walk in the park. But he is so sweet and funny it makes up for all that.

I have added on a ka-jillon pics over the last 4-6 weeks. I guess since I only post ever-so-often I should get it all in in one post. :) ~ Scroll on....

He he he. These pics just crack me up...
I don't know if they are as funny to anyone else... what a character he is!

Ben and his "pen-stache". he he he :)

He loves wearing "mimi's" glasses.

Kyle's birthday. He requested sugar cookies for his birthday treat...
so I stacked them up to make a cake. You gotta have a "cake" on your birthday!

Ben loves to "help" with the dishes. He just uses the suds to wash himself. Here he is scrubbing his belly. scrub, scrub, scrub.

This is us at Arbuckle Wilderness on my birthday. It is about an hour south of us. It is the COOLEST place ever! Think Jurassic Park but with real animals instead of dinosaurs. You drive your car through the animal park and feed the animals. They come RUNNING up to your car and try to stick their heads in!! It was so hilarious, I was laughing so hard I cried. I have never seen anything like this before. It took us about an hour to drive through. You go through all different areas with different animals. There were SO MANY kinds of animals... some of the ones we saw were: llamas, alpacas, camels, emus, ostriches, Rhinos, giraffes, bison, miniature donkeys, zebras, lots of African types of animals... the list goes on. The funniest animals were the camels. We had like 15 or more crowded around our car, we couldn't even drive. They followed us forever too. It was so fun! Everyone needs to come visit us just so we can take you here... it will not disappoint!! :) Our camera ran out of batteries right at the beginning so we didn't get that many pictures. Hopefully you get the idea though.

On my birthday we also went to Turner Falls. It is a pretty little nature area near the animal park. It was so nice to be out and enjoy the outdoors. You can swim and camp there in the summer. This is Ben on the playground at the falls. He loved this see-saw swing thing.

Turner Falls.

Father and son... aawhhhhhh. :)

My mom came to visit at the beginning of October. It was SOOO nice to have some family come see us. This is me and my mom at the Oklahoma bombing memorial one of the days she was here. It is a really nice memorial/monument. Very somber though.

Here is Ben on his first fair ride!! It was so freaking cute!! I didn't know how he would react when I strapped him in and then walked away and left him all alone. But he didn't bat an eye. This little dune-buggy ride lasted a few minutes and he was jolly the whole time. Kyle and I were dying of laughter. We also ate lots of good food at the fair... mmmmm I want to go back.

Kyle loves to show Ben bugs... GROSS! We have a huge field behind our fence in the backyard so we have lots of grasshoppers. Kyle catches them and lets Ben play with them... I just get the willies thinking about it. Ben loves it though... he loves to observe and inspect things like this.

That's all folks!! Hope you are well!! MISS YOU!

18-month Stats

Ben went in for his 18-month check-up the other day and here are his stats:

Weight: 28.2 lbs ~ 75th%

Height: 35 1/2" ~ above 95%

Head: 51cm ~ above 95%

So we have a very TALL boy with a BIG head! :) But he has had a large head all along... so that wasn't new. Our Pediatrician in CT once asked (re: his large head), "Does it seem to bother him?" I almost burst out laughing! An old lady at the grocery store also remarked "He deffinitely has a German Brow." Whatever that means... big forehead? Ben's got a big noggin' -- but we don't mind. :)

His newest word is MOMMY!!! FINALLY! But he says it really cute, kind of like Mamie. I love it... I have to get it on tape so I can remember how sweet it sounds. And lately he loves to stick his head in the spray from the hose while I am watering the plants. He just walks up, leans over and ducks his head in the spraying water then giggles.... guess he must be hot.

Long overdue....

I'll just start out with being honest.... Is anyone else sick of blogging? I pretty much never feel like it. I still like to look at other people's blogs, but to update my own is pure drudgery. I'm just sayin'.

Well, we are surviving the heat and loving summer. I have to say, Oklahoma is a pretty friendly place to live... everyone is SUPER nice, even perfect strangers everywhere I go. Maybe I was just used to East Coast folks being just a little more reserved and private. So far Oklahoma has been a pretty nice place to live. It is hot, humid and usually breezy all the time... the crazy, random, terrential rain and hail storms have been entertaining. We have lost some siding off the house acouple times (thank goodness we are renting so I just had to call up maitenance).

But despite the heat Ben LOVES to play outside. The poor kid sweats like crazy (got the sweaty Smith genes I think... yep that includes me, yuck). So, sweat, humidity, heat and all... he wants to go outside. Thank goodness we can come back inside to the air conditioning. How did people live here in the "olden days"... phew! Ben is learning to say all sorts of stuff... these are some of his words: Daddy! (his favorite person and word to say), car, wa-wa (water), sout-side (outside), soues (shoes), ca-ker (cracker), teesh (brush teeth), wow, uh-oh, versions of please and thank you and probably more that I can't think of at the moment.

He is a wild man and runs everywhere. He stumbles and falls all the time but doesn't seem to mind. He is still a pretty thick little kid so he sort of lumber-runs... its funny. He climbes up everything and gets into all sorts of stuff. Acouple weeks ago I called poision control for the first time... I found him with a stick of Kyle's deoderant and he had rubbed it all over him and there were some teeth marks in it... so I called P.C. to be sure he would be alright. It was fine... it turns out a little deoderant isn't posionous. :) He didn't miss a beat either... just smelled real sporty-like.
I have included some very RANDOM pics over the last few months... I really haven't taken any that are really worth sharing... just weird ones from around the house (I'm not good at getting the camera out very often). The pic at the top of the post is during our road-trip to Oklahoma. We stopped off for a break in St. Louis. So the pic is of us at the "Gateway to the West"... we walked under it to OFFICIALLY be moving back out west. :) Like I said, the rest of these are random and kind of dumb... but they were the best I had. Hope all-ya-all out there are well... Audios.

The Sorensen cousins, minus Will :( , swimming in UT.

We took a trip to the U of U bookstore, while in UT, to load up on Ute gear. Ben loved this stuffed Swoop. He was hugging him and giggling. Kyle was happy to see it. :) GO UTES!

Ben LOVES to swing. This is him swinging at a park in the OKC zoo. We also rode the train which he really loved too.

This is Kyle, asleep on the floor after a long night on-call in the Emergency Room. He was trying to play with Ben and fell asleep mid-play. Ben just sat there for a minute and stared at him, then decided daddy was a lost cause and got up and walked away. :)

Is it weird that I think Ben's crying face is so cute and funny. Yes, its werid, but it makes me laugh. I guess he's sad because his misses all of you!! "COME VISIT ME!!!" is what I think he is saying. :)
