what a weekend!!

...Matilda had her fifth birthday party the last weekend of October...Rapunzel theme, of course.

...she worked long and hard on the decorations...

(Rapunzel and Eugene with flowers and the chameleon, Pascal)

...as well as playing pin the tail on Pascal...

...painting with friends...

...eating lots of treats...

...and getting some very thoughtful gifts from friends and family!

We also had our first snow storm of the year. Luckily David had me buy winter gear for everyone the day before.  We would have had some sad kids!!

oh, except for Charlie, who had to wear some hand-me-down snow pants!  I'm sure he will love this picture someday!!

Storm Alfred was pretty ferocious and left us without power for about 4 days.  It also left us this sweet parting gift right next to our house.

tree branches the size of actual trees...awesome!

we are actually feeling very blessed that nothing else happened.  we had no real damage to our home or property, just a long sleepless night and cleanup that is still ongoing.  not too bad.

nana and papa were actually in town for this awesome weekend of wonder.  i think my dad really liked camping out "home-style"!!  luckily we had a roaring fire for most of the time.  and we procured our new best friend, a generator, by some miracle!  we actually have a hook-up in our house for a generator so that it will run our heater and water pump.  YEA!!  so that made all the difference.  we could actually shower and warm up the house.  what a blessing!!  and what an interesting and fun weekend!!

joy to the world!

We send you our warmest wishes this holiday season…

…But first there was just a little family, without toys or trees or tinsel.
With a baby—
that’s how Christmas began.

during this season we are ever mindful of this baby who was born long ago.
we have been thinking of how his parents loved him, cared for him, snuggled him, and taught him.
we rejoice in his birth and give thanks for all that his sacrifice offers us…that we too, have the opportunity to be together forever as a family.
what a precious gift!

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released the following 2010 Christmas message:
In celebrating the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ our thoughts
turn to that sacred occasion when He was born “The Prince of
Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). He promised: “He that followeth me shall
not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John
8:12). Truly, Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer who
was “wounded for our transgressions … and with his stripes
 we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
Our prayer this Christmas season is that the light and
testimony of the Savior's divine mission will come into our
hearts and be reflected in our lives and in our homes.
May each of us be blessed, not only at this Christmas season,
but also throughout the coming year. May our faith in Jesus
Christ increase as we follow His example in all we do and say.

we know he lives and loves us!
merry CHRISTmas!

well hello again...

Choose your corner, pick away at it carefully, intensely and to the best of your ability...
and that way,
you may change the world.

...it's been a while!!

There really is no excuse for not blogging.  I have just been too busy focusing on my corner of the world to reach out and document it here.  That is the truth.

But, I am now finding time here and there these days...so I feel like I want to start up again.

If anyone still reads this...I missed you and your comments!!  And I have still been checking blogs on and off, which is always fun!

If not, it will be nice to start journaling for my family again!

This is how we spent a lovely morning a few weeks ago...
