Slava Ukraine!

I’ve been cheering for Ukraine to win the unprovoked war started by Russia. I’m glad that Canada has been helping, and hopefully, quite soon, we will be able to do more.

HAT Kitty Hat Ukraine 03

I crocheted this hat to show solidarity for Ukraine, and as well as woman’s rights.

The Ukrainian Kitty Hat!

HAT Kitty Hat Ukraine 02

Pattern is from the Gege Crochet, the Holy Julia Newmar Batman! pattern. It’s no longer available on Ravelry but you can find it on her blog, linked earlier.

It’s the best kitty/pussy hat I’ve found! Perfect for making Pink Pussy Hats!

If you want one – I’m listing it in my Etsy shop – made to order.

President Zelenskyy is amazing. He’s an incredible man, a President, & hero for his people & country. I hope someday to be able to cheer for him in person if he came to Saskatchewan. Small chance – but still – Bucket List.

One of the small ways I personally help the people in Ukraine is by buying patterns from Ukrainian crochet designers. You can find designers on Raverly using their search feature. Here is a link to the search for designers who have their country set to Ukraine.

Even buying $20 of patterns a month really helps these crafts have money in their bank account to help their families. During war, this might be making a huge difference for those families.

Dumpster Fires of 2025

What is the requisite amigurumi of 2025? Of pretty much the last 5 years?

This is a cute pattern, by Twinkie Chan. I’d say intermediate in skill due to the complexity and sewing together. I didn’t make any changes beyond not sewing the flames down.

These dumpsters came out to be about 4 inches across, a nice size to add to your desk or book shelf. I didn’t sew the flames down, so they are removable. You can indicate how your day is going: No Fires, A little Bit (One) Aflame, & straight out Dumpster Fire (Two flames).

I’ve added this doll to my Etsy store if you want to order your own.

We are Monstiez!

For the last few years we have become fans of several kpop groups. Our favourite currently is BabyMonster. We adore Ahyeon & Pharita – with the other 5 members just as treasured. These ladies are so incredibly talented, & we’re so happy to see that they are well supported by their label YG.

😈 Babymonster Official Website on YG

😈Babymonster Youtubemy favourite song/video is Clik Clak

😈Babymonster Instagram & Babymonster Facebook page

Unfortunately we can’t join the fanclub, as it requires a japanese address! But we look for merch on eBay and whatnot.

One of the key features of the group and merch is the Babymonster horns.

I found a new beanie pattern on Ravelry that features the horns. I didn’t like how they did the body of the hat, so I used my own Anita Toque pattern, and then used their horns. The result is still pretty cute. I’m going to be looking at using some Craft Intentions horn patterns to see if I can find others that work just as well if not better. The shrek-esque horns would be super cute too on a toque!

I’ve listed this hat in Etsy shop – and also have custom options in case you don’t want red! If I make a Shrek-esque hat – I’ll post it…. what other horn options would you like to see?

Octopus Hats!

During Covid and for about two years after the Octopus Hat was the number one seller in my Etsy shop. They were viral and everyone wanted one!

I have made about 35 of them, using the Twisted Kraken Pattern from Natalie with The Twisted Hatter. The pattern is really easy to follow, however each hat takes quite a number of hours to make. I’ve added my own tweaks to the pattern to make it better and work for me.

I’ve made options to have the tendrils longer and super long – which adds 128 rows and 256 rows respectively.

The colour combo for the Seattle Krakens hockey team also went viral due to a fan making and wearing her hat to a game. I’ve made about half a dozen of Seattle Kraken themed hats. Purchase one here!

I’ve only made a few in colours I chose – for 85% of my hats – they have been custom ordered in colours chosen by my customers!

What would be your favourite colour combo?

Recipe: Just Add Sunflowers, Part 1

Sunflowers!!

Photo by Matthias Oberholzer on Unsplash

Did you ever think that eating baby sunflowers would be so delicious?

To be honest – I didn’t know this until I started working at Mumm’s Sprouting Seeds in 2020. They are grown from Black Oil Sunflowers specifically tested to be grown as a microgreen. Which means you grow them in a tray, not a jar, and harvest them by cutting them about 1 cm above your planting medium (soil, jute, coco coir, rockwool, etc). You’ll be munching on the crispy stem and thick crunchy leaves.

There are a ton of ways to eat this microgreen, obviously from the title of this post, & one of my favourites is in a stirfry.

Once you’ve cooked up your choice of meat, added cut up veggies like broccoli, carrot, green beans, peppers & cook them for a bit in your favourite sauce. Once you’re done cooking, remove from heat & add the microgreens! They don’t need to be cooked. Stir them in and let the stirfry rest covered for a minute or three.

We ate this stirfry on sticky rice – which is another new dish we discovered not to long ago. But of course your favourite rice noodle, or steamed rice would be great as well.

You’ll notice there is white sesame seeds in there – which we also purchased from Mumm’s Sprouting Seeds. These seeds have been hulled, which means they won’t sprout, but are perfect to add to stirfry’s, saucy chicken legs, & baking.

Sunflowers take about 10 days to grow from soaking to harvest – plan ahead! I’ll be doing a post showing my growing journey soon.

I’ve added links to the seeds Gordon used in the meal which will take you to Mumm’s Sprouting Seeds. Mumm’s is -the- source for Organic Seeds in Canada. I’m an Affiliate for Mumm’s and receive credit for purchases using my links. Credit I put towards eating healthy!
