This is one of their favorite activities--playing in the water/washing dishes. :)

Christmas tree fun!
post Thanksgiving fun!
The Friday morning after Thanksgiving, we had a lazy morning around the house because the boys both woke up super early!
Thanksgiving 2015
Mommy School, fire week and water week
We wrapped up our last 2 weeks of the Old Testament with the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abendego getting thrown into the fire, and then the story of Jonah and the whale. For the next 2 weeks, we're studying the story of Jesus' birth, just in time for Christmas. I've loved this curriculum because, while we haven't studied every story, we've read through it all in the children's Bible we've been using.

ACU Homecoming and visiting Abilene
This year was our 10 year reunion at ACU--so wild! Ten years goes by fast, but so much has changed in the last decade!
Does anyone have a baby carrier you're not using?
I heard about what THIS woman was doing for refugees a few weeks ago and it just really touched my heart. These families are going through so much and this is just a such a simple way to meet a real need and hopefully make their journey even just a touch easier. Does anyone have a baby carrier or two that you're not using? Over the next few weeks, I'm going to be collecting baby carriers and then I'll mail them to this organization around the middle of December. If you have one that you want to donate, comment or message me and I'd be happy to come and get it from you if you're in the Sugar Land area. If not, we'll figure something out. smile emoticon
If you're able, please attach a note of encouragement to the carrier for the family that will be receiving it! They're accepting new baby carriers and clean, gently used baby carriers (not slings or wraps). I have 2 (and I love them both!), but we'll be sending at least one of them to a family that needs it way more than we do!
If you're not local and would still like to send one, the address is:

21 months!
Sweet Austin, this has been a fun month! You bring so much fun, laughter and craziness to our life! You are sweet and silly and it is so much fun to see the little boy you are becoming. I cannot believe that in 3 months, you will be 2 years old. That just does not even seem possible!

Mommy School--all about King David
With Austin a little older (Even just a few months), doing Mommy School with both boys awake has gotten easier, and even fun some days! I still usually aim to do it when he's asleep (either in the morning or at naptime), but that just doesn't always happen. Plus, who can resist this little grin--he loves all things coloring, cutting, glueing, reading and singing! And, even more than that, all things AEDAN. :)

one on one time
One on one time with more than one child is HARD, for me at least. It's a little hard even just logistically, because usually they're both with us, and they nap (or have quiet time) at the same time. But every time I have some alone time with them, I'm reminded of how so very important it is, because they are almost like different kids--and they're always so happy!! I've been trying to both make one on one time with each of them and capitalize on the moments during the day that I sometimes have alone with each of them.
Sometimes if we run errands a little too late in the morning, Austin will crash out in the car. A few times I woke him up for lunch when we got home, but that always backfired because he'd have gotten just enough nap to power through until about 5pm, which doesn't work for me. :) So now, I make sure he has some snacks while we're out, just in case, and then he sleeps his regular naptime and eats a late lunch. On these (fairly rare) occasions, Aedan and I have a Mommy/Aedan lunch date and usually do a Mommy School project, which he loves. This week, we ate some burritos and made his crown for King week. It's always so nice and calm, and I can really talk and be in it with him. Then, I make sure to get him settled in his room for quiet time before Austin wakes up.
life in pictures, November
I can't believe that November is already over halfway over--so crazy!! And also crazy to think that at this time last year, we had just returned home from Sri Lanka--and I was spending the middle of the night hours every night with little Austin, as he tried to adjust back to Houston time. :) It's funny, because I actually have good memories of (most of) those nights--he was so happy and it was some sweet little alone time. I was SO stinking tired during the day though, ha.
Anyway, while November has flown by, it's been fun. Austin likes to open our computers and do a little work when we're not looking. :) It's one of his favorite games, since he knows he's not supposed to do it, ha.

breakfast in a box
Love these two sillies! Austin wants to do EVERYTHING Aedan does these days (cutest thing ever!), so of course when Aedan wanted to eat his oatmeal in the box, Austin grabbed his off the counter and headed that way too.:)
Grace
The other day in the car Aedan and I were talking about grace. About a year ago, he did something he shouldn't have, and I told him that I was going to give him a little grace this time. He asked what that was and I told him that it was when you didn't get the punishment that you deserved. A few days later, we were in the car and he did something he shouldn't have. I told him that he was going to get a consequence when we got home. He said, "Mommy, can I have a little grease? Please Mommy, a little grease?" I guessed a few times incorrectly as to what he was talking about. Then, he said, "You know Mommy, when you don't give me the consequence? A little grease." One of my favorite little things he's said. Grace will always be affectionately be called "grease" in our house.
Anyway, fast forward a year, and the same scenario--he did something he wasn't supposed to and asked for some grace. (He now says it correctly--so sad!) I asked him what grace was and we talked some about Jesus dying on the cross for us so we could go to heaven. He's been getting in trouble a lot some days and telling me that he tries to be good but keeps doing the wrong thing. So we've been talking about how we all mess up and we all need God and Jesus, because Jesus was the only perfect person ever.
I have no idea what I'm doing and I definitely stumble over my words as we talk, but I'm trying. I want him to know about Jesus and about how we're all messed up. And I want him to know how much Jesus loves him and that grace is so much more than not getting a consequence from us.
Just a kinda cool moment with Aedan--the start of hopefully a lifetime of conversations with this precious boy about God. I love him so much and love his heart. I pray that God gives us grace in parenting him and am so thankful that God is pricking his heart to think about Jesus.

last day of Sonshine school
I have no idea why these are posting sideways, but I just love these sweet boys! They were excited to go to their last day of Sonshine class for the semester. Sweet little boys!
playground playgroup
A few times in the last month, a group of us has met up at this fun little park on Monday mornings, to hang out and let the kids play. I've loved it, as have the boys. Simple fun and beautiful weather. :)

brothers at play
Just in the last 2 weeks, we've been able to see our boys shifting into a new phase of life and it is so, so fun. They've started to really play together and be little buddies. I think it's because Austin has gotten just old enough to be able to kinda play and pretend with Aedan, and has started to really talk some with him. Almost every day that we're just at home for a chunk of time, which is most days, they'll play together and I just love watching it. And it's cute to see them in the childcare at the gym, because they're little friends in there. The workers say they do everything together and hang out, which is nice because they're not alone. And when Austin is sad when I leave, Aedan tells him it's ok and gives him some toys. It's sweet.
Iron Pumpkin, pumpkin cookies and other Halloween things...
About a week before Halloween, our small group gets together every year for a Brandon Blackburn event called Iron Pumpkin--a pumpkin carving contest. This year, the Manges' hosted and it was in their garage because it was raining outside. It's always fun to see the pumpkins. Soon though, I think the kids are going to want to carve too!
family class Arms of Hope trip
About a year ago, Landon and I decided to try out the Family class at our church. We were both wanting something different, looking for something more, and there are a lot of people in that class that we look at as role models for how we want to raise our family. It's a class where you can bring your kids, but we still take ours to the nursery at this point--we'll see when they get a little older. There's a level of realness, of taking your faith seriously, of really diving into scripture, that we both like about the class. And, there's a sense of community, between all ages, which we love as well.
Every year, they go to Arms of Hope for a weekend, so we were excited to be able to join it during the first weekend of October this year. Everyone took their kiddos and it was a really good weekend. We got there late at night, and basically just went to sleep, since the boys were already sleeping!

CFC
For a while now, Landon and I have been feeling convicted about reaching out to our neighbors. Landon had the idea to do something simple like bring them cookies and introduce ourselves--Cookies for Christ. We we did just that. He printed some bags with a little about us, why we were doing this and our picture and we baked a ton of cookies. Then, we went around and met the 30ish people in our section of the neighborhood. If they weren't home, we left them a bag. It was about a year in the making, so it was fun to meet people and see their reactions. Hopefully it'll be the start of some new relationships! We're trying to work on obeying God in the small things and seeing what He does with it.

Austin, 18(1/2) month pictures
a fun weekend!
I love weekends. Life is different now that Landon is working from home, but there is still a definitely a difference between the weekdays and weekends. Last weekend, we tried to go on a date, but when it didn't work out with a babysitter, we decided to just have a family night!
It was rock week for us in our curriculum we're using and it's been a fun week! We ended the week by reading the book Stone Soup, making our own stone soup, which Aedan LOVED doing, and then eating it while watching the Sword in the Stone (the library is the best!!). It was a super cute movie (I'd never seen it either!) and a fun afternoon.

FF retreat
This year was our third annual FF retreat--and our second year at Camp Allen! As always, it was a super fun weekend and it went by way too fast!
We always split up the meals by cabin, and this year Landon and I decided to bring something for breakfast on Sunday morning. Cinnamon rolls seemed like a fun idea, and something I could make ahead, so that's what we went with! My mom was there to help/help with the boys while I made them, which was so nice. It was really easy, but took a while from start to finish! Aedan helped me sprinkle the sugar and cinnamon,:)

our little dog walkers
The other night, we took the dogs on a little walk around our section of the neighborhood and the boys LOVED it! We need to do it more often--both for them and because it's good for our pups!:)

the building of an office, part 2
labor day weekend
This year for Labor Day weekend, we got together with Landon's siblings again--this time in Austin. Kenna and James flew into Houston and then drove there with us, and Logan and Elizabeth just met us there. We rented a house for the weekend (if ever there was an UN-kid friendly house, this was it, ha!) and just hung out. We cooked good food, swam in the pool, floated the river, had some good conversations and caught up.

last pool day of the season
The toddler pool by us stayed open during the week until Labor Day weekend, so that Thursday, I loaded the boys up one last time to head to the pool and we had a blast! So sad the pool was closing for the summer, especially since it stayed hot for a long time this year!
the building of an office, part 1
August 22nd was the official beginning of the building of Landon's new office! We talked through a number of different options about what to do now that he was going to be officing at home (renting a space, moving, working in our closet, ha) and when it came down to it, building a space in the backyard made the most sense. At the beginning, we were talking about the office being twice as big as it ended up being. For multiple reasons, at multiple points in the process, we both said that we were glad he decided to just make it an 8X8 space!
He researched and researched and drew up the plans, and that Friday night the boys and I met him after work (he was still at Burleson for one more week) to buy everything. It was a lot of wood!!

lots of changes and new beginnings around our house!
The last 3 months have brought lots of change for our family. One night during the summer, while I was finishing up dinner, Landon mentioned to me that his boss was considering a job where he worked from home. This matters to use, because his boss had pretty much said that wherever he went, Landon would have the option of going too. This was awesome because it was a good time to get out of his current company, even though it had been a blessing for our family over the last 5 years as we began our family.
Anyway, so he casually mentioned this to me as I was cooking and immediately I told him that sounded awesome! And I meant it. For years now, that's been something that I've been REALLY wanting for him--a job with more time freedom and flexibility, so this sounded almost too good to be true. But over the last year, starting with Blackaby study that we began right around our birthdays last year, God's been prying that our of my fingers, along with a lot of other things. It's still a desire, but God really convicted me that it was something that I was trying to control instead of giving up to Him.
Anyway, when he mentioned it, I think he was a little surprised at my response, and less than excited about it himself. There was more risk and pressure associated with the job, and less security than a traditional job. But, the blessing (we think:)) of it all, is that the decision was really out of our hands. Randy was deciding between this firm, where they would work from home, and another more traditional firm. and mid August, he decided to go with the work from home one. In fact, we spent his birthday prepping for him to fly to Atlanta to meet all of the other partners, and a few days later he signed his contract as a partner with the new firm.
As we were sitting at dinner the night he signed his contract (definitely worthy of celebrating!), eating our dessert, we talked a little about how it was almost exactly a year to the date after we began our year of chasing hard after God, that this change happened. The significance was not lost on either of us. And still to this day, I'm blown away by how God answered this prayer, because I would never have thought in a million years that it would happen in this way ( I didn't even know a firm like this existed!), but I guess that's why God asks us to just trust Him. Definitely a story I'm filing away to remember as part of our family's testimony, our God story.
On the last day he drove off to work, we all walked out with him, like we did everyday since Aedan was a little baby, to say good bye.
the start of Mommy School!
-This year we went back and forth a little about whether or not to send Aedan to preschool. I checked into a few and discovered that, at 4 years old, most programs are 4 days and I just wasn't ready for that, for him or our family. The only place I found that was 2 a day was a MDO, where everything on the curriculum, he already knew. And when I began really praying about it, I just felt God saying, "no, you're not done with him yet". I had peace about that and Landon was fine with it, so he's at home with us again and I love it. :) I bought a curriculum that I LOVE called God's Little Explorers (GLE) and we've been doing that this year! What I was looking for was a curriculum that teaching the Bible and this one was different than all the others because all the lessons are centered around teaching through the Bible. Then, coordinated with the Bible story is a weekly theme, a letter and number, basic math, writing, a self help skill and a service activity--plus more activities than we can usually do. So, so fun!

FF mission trip
Months ago, Landon and I were talking one night and he brought up the idea of our first family going on a mission trip. I loved the idea and so did he--our thought was somewhere overseas, just because that's where we knew people, but we ended up going to San Antonio, because it was more feasible for our group on short notice and we wanted to go this summer. Wade and Wendi found a place and planned it all and it was a nice weekend to get outside of our agendas and just focus on helping others. Hopefully this will become a tradition with our group, and even grow.
It was a no kids weekend, so we left Aedan at my parent's house. We just weren't quite ready to leave Austin for 3 nights yet, so he came with us--the only kiddo in the group. It was fun to have a little one on one time with him and he was LOVING being an only child! Probably just as much as Aedan was loving getting Mere and Papa's attention all to himself. :) Win/win.
He was SO excited that Papa ordered all of this sand for him! He got right to work helping him fill in the holes in the backyard. :)

sweet summertime, part 7
So, I am WAY behind on my blogging, but I miss it!! And I still have a ton of pictures, so here's to trying to catch up!:) All the way back to summetime...
One evening, the day before his due date, we took flowers to sweet Chance's gravesite. It's amazing how much this sweet baby his made heaven so much more real for our family. And Aedan regularly talks about him and his funeral. He talks about how we sent balloons up to him in heaven. He asks questions about heaven and who baby Chance is with. God is doing and has already done so much through his sweet life.

Halloween 2015!
This year, Halloween fell on a Saturday, and we had no plans at all until trick or treating, which was AWESOME. It was raining all morning, so we just had a lazy day around the house, playing and hanging out.

Friday Fun Day, Halloween Style!
A few weeks before Halloween, we had plans to go to ZooBoo with some friends, but Austin woke up in the middle of the night with a high fever, so we ended up staying home and just having a rest day for him. So, the Friday before Halloween, I decided to take the boys. It looked like it might rain, but I decided to chance it--we could always go to the Children's Museum if we got down there and it was pouring.:) We'd been the last 2 years and it's a lot of fun!
