Blog on hold

It's no secret that I haven't been blogging much lately. There's just too much going on! But last night we disabled our basement computer so we could paint the room that it's in, so now I don't even have access to most of our photos. I have a ton of the kids playing in the snow and of our ice covered neighborhood, but they'll have to wait. We're feeling the crunch to get this house on the market ASAP, so all nap times must be spent cleaning, painting, organizing and oh yeah, packing!

Since I hate a post with no photos, here's an example of how few I have saved on my laptop. Both of these are from April 2007!

One Year Ago Today

A happy, dancing, only 2 years old, girl wearing bead necklaces from our neighbors

A not yet one year old, wobbly sitting, winter hat wearing, happy boy

They look so little to me!

Fancy

Gingerbread pajamas
Hawaiian lei and grass skirt
Ladybug wings and antennae
Dora wig (the best part)
Holding a toy elephant just because

This girl and her dress up! This week she got one of her little progress reports from preschool and it said, "Anna plays dress up - LOVES doing this". Surprise, surprise! The dress up shoes were one of the first things she went for on her first day. She is so silly, and I know I will miss these days when she decides she too big for dress up. I mean, the Dora wig alone keeps me laughing!

Tough Love

So remember how I said Noah shows his love for his animals by biting them on the nose? Here's proof that sometimes there is such a thing as too much love. Roo's nose is about to fall off as you can see in the bottom photo, so he's been confiscated. There is a plastic piece under the fabric which makes him a choking hazard now. The doggie (or as Noah's says, "Goggie") is all fluff and for weeks he was able to withstand the constant biting, but a few days ago after nap I walked in to find Noah with a very concerned face as he pointed and said over and over, "Uh-oh goggie". I may try to stitch up and save the Roo, but I think the dog may head for the trash since he was a freebie anyway. But it does break my heart a little when I think of how much Noah loves him!

Big Plans

trying to catch snowflakes on her squished up nose :)

Yesterday we were out and about for most of the day, but before dinner we did see a bit of the inauguration coverage. Anna asked who that man was and I explained to her that he was the new president. After saying Obaaaaammaaaaa about 43 times, Anna turned around to me and said, "Is he the president mommy?". When I said yes she replied, "Well next year I am going to be the president. I'm gonna be the Lady President!". Dream big, baby!

Right Now

after a long day of Christmas fun

Noah, at 21 months you:

  • Spend hours each day saying "cookie? cookie?" even if you haven't had one in weeks
  • Love to chase your dog...and sometimes sample her food
  • Spend all of your time in the car pointing out vehicles that you're obsessed with - Bus! Big Tuck! (truck)
  • Still like to wear your sister's shoes
  • Are more willing to try new foods
  • Would stay outside all day if we'd let you
  • Love your stuffed animals and show your love by biting them on the face
  • Still climb on everything
  • Get so excited when we chase you
  • Still love to be snuggled

Anna, at 3 years 9 months you:

  • Live in a princess fairy land
  • LOVE to dress up, all day every day
  • Are finally learning to be gentle with your dog
  • Love to dance and sing
  • Are eager to do things yourself, no matter how long it takes
  • Remain super confident and outgoing
  • Have a great time at school, and are starting to give more detailed reports
  • Enjoy teaching things to Noah...whether he wants to learn or not
  • Could eat 20 yogurts a day
  • Have suddenly turned into a snuggly girl, and we love it!

Out of touch

In case you haven't noticed, I haven't been blogging much. We've been busy and when we haven't been busy I just haven't felt like blogging! We're not taking many pictures lately either so that cuts down on bloggable material too. But I am kind of sad that I've made mental note of some cute things the kids have done or said, but I've lost it because I didn't write it down.

Here are a few that I can think of:

Today Anna sang for a long time about armadillos. Really that was the only word to the song. "Armadiiiiiillo, aaaaaarmadillo, armaaaaaaadillo" and so on.

In the car today we were talking about my friend Kelly who is having a baby and Anna said she would like a new brother named Andy and a new sister named Hotel. Sure.

A few days ago we were talking about how Anna's birthday is coming in a few months. She said she would like a fairy princess ballerina party and a cake with "ballet-ers" on top. I wasn't so sure that would work for Noah so I asked her what kind of party we should have for him and she said, "A 1 to 2 party!". I thought that was pretty clever!

Hopefully I can get back in this blogging habit soon, but I won't bet on it. I may not have mentioned that we bought a new house (!) so we're about to get even more busy. We're not moving for another 6-8 weeks, but there's a ton to do between then and now. I'll try to sneak in some after bedtime blogging when I can!

Queen Clarion

Anna and Noah got a rocking horse for Christmas. The first day or so that they had the horse, it looked like this:

that giant peppermint ornament behind Noah was Anna's gift to us that she made in preschool. So cute!

But here is what happened after Anna claimed the horse as her own.

Minnie Mouse ears, a tutu for a hat, some jewelry, and a rainbow playsilk for a saddle. Obviously this horse needed to be fancied-up. It has since gained Anna's Halloween ballerina tiara and a jingle bell necklace. In these pictures Anna is wearing a combination of Sleeping Beauty and Snow White costumes that my mom bought her for Christmas. In fact I don't think a day has gone by since Christmas that she hasn't worn a costume! Lately she's chosen to ride her horse while we read her bedtime stories and we were informed a few nights ago that the horse is now named Queen Clarion (from her Tinkerbell book). Okay. I smile every time I walk into her room now because that fancy horse is just so her!

p.s. I added some new pictures to the slide show in my sidebar. But you'll have to sit through all the old ones to get to the new ones, because Nathan gets sad when I delete them! Or you can just click on the slide and scroll down to the new ones ;)

g is for granola

Guess what we've been trying?

Warning: Way too much info about diapers.

I had read about G Diapers in a few parenting magazines, and I had studied them in the Whole Foods baby isle for a few weeks, so I decided to just buy the started kit and try them out. Cloth diapering intrigued me, but I wasn't sure I was up for the um, clean up, that came with them. G Diapers have flushable inserts, so I thought they were a good middle ground. I had read the articles saying that 18 billion disposables go into landfills each year and each one takes about 500 years to decompose, blah blah blah. Disposables are terrible for the environment! But ya know what? They're also super easy to use, super easy to buy and most importantly, super easy to clean up.

The first time I used the G Diapers they were easy enough. And when it was time for a change I flushed that puppy and felt all proud of my earth saving ways. That night I did some internet research and found out that lots of moms only used the inserts for outtings, but used a cloth insert while they were at home. One mom said that she was down to buying only one package of disposable diapers a month and BAM! I was sold.

So, 99% of the time Noah's little tushie is now wrapped in cloth. He still sleeps in an overnight disposable and I haven't decided yet if that's worth the trouble to switch over or not. I think he likes wearing the cloth. They definitely haven't slowed him down! And clean up is a million times easier than I had feared. No more stinky diaper pail in his room (since I do laundry every day already), no more last minute runs to the store for diapers, and best of all, more money back in my pocket! Plus it's just cute :) Nathan bought a big box of diapers last week and I'm on a mission to see how long I can make them last. Since he bought the box on Saturday I've only used three! I'm a huge nerd but that makes me super happy!

The title is what Ashley said when I told her I was switching to cloth, hee hee. Granola, as in tree hugger, hippie, etc. I don't think the G really stands for anything, but the inside of the diaper is printed with lots of cute G words like, goodness, grace, golly, giggle, etc. I'm not totally granola, just cheap :)

Road Trip: The Short Version

A few weeks before Christmas we headed an hour or so north for our annual trip with Nathan's side of the family. An hour in car seemed like nothing after our trip from the weekend before! But the kids were still happy to get out and run the halls of the hotel once we arrived.

Playing with his cousin's toy truck. He loved it so much that they bought him one of his own for Christmas!

Nathan took a picture of this in one of the lobbies. For the rest of the weekend he would pull this picture up on his camera screen and sneak up next to me making some crazy growling sound. Sorry ladies, he's taken.

Cousins wrestling. David is so patient with my two monkeys!

This hotel also has these big stuffed gopher? beaver? type animals in some of the hallways, and Noah had to hug them every time he passed one.

Anna loved the pool, as usual, but Noah thought it was way too cold.

The next morning Nathan, his dad, and David went out early to take pictures. They even took pictures of each other taking pictures!

Back in the warm hotel there was plenty of grandparent love,

and new little nephew love.

Noah had his own love affair with the blinds in our room

Some snacks by the fireplace

Down to the town for some shopping. Noah was so sleepy.

Anna was not.

A last stop for ice cream in this cute shop and it was time to head for home. Fun! And just the right length of time for our little kiddies.

So, if there are this many pictures from a 2 day trip, you can imagine how many are coming from our three days of Christmas. Mwahahahaha!
