I still can't believe Anna is in Kindergarten! I mean, she was born in 2005, it is now 2010, so it makes sense. But in my heart she's still about two years old. Sigh. Anyway....
She could not have been more excited on her first day. Her school is just down the road from our house, so we would drive past it several times a week. For months now she and Noah have been calling out, "There's Kindergarten!", and asking when can we please go inside. After her Meet the Teacher Day she was more than ready to get started. So exciting to go to a school where you get to stay for lunch!
Every year her school has an Opening Ceremony to kick off the new year. Before the children walked in, they lined up with their class out on the front lawn.
That is her teacher on the right, holding the little K flag so the Kindergarteners knew where to line up. At her feet is a bucket of flowers. One little bouquet for each child to carry in the processional.
She was so happy!
The ceremony began with the Headmistress and then the principal saying a few words. This was the first day at the new campus so it was pretty important to all of the people who had worked so hard to get the school ready in time. Nathan and I were so very happy with everything they had to say. Classical Christian Education lines up so well with our family beliefs and how we feel about education in general. It was so nice to sit there knowing that Anna was at the very best school for her and for us as a family. After they were finished speaking, we heard drums and then bagpipes as the children walked in with their classes.
It was a little difficult to get good pictures of them walking in and out. Everyone wanted to see their child!
As they walked out the principal read the names of each student aloud and they left with their class. There are less than 100 students in the entire school and only 14 in Anna's class (yay!). I admit I got a little teary when I heard that music and saw her walk down that aisle like a real school girl.
It was such a great morning, and now that she's been there for a few weeks we are just as happy. Her teacher is wonderful (so organized!) and Anna is having a blast. So much fun in fact that she has decided to marry a boy in her class named Alex. Apparently Alex has bears in his yard and one time he caught a whale shark all by himself. Pretty impressive! Anna was really tired that first week as she adjusted to a full day school schedule, but now she's just as energetic as ever when she climbs into the car. I'm so excited to watch her grow and learn this year!
