Family Photo

We never have a current family photo, and that just won't do. Nathan set up the camera, I wiped the peanut butter off of everyone, told them all to say cheese, and we let the camera snap away. When the weather is warmer we'll have to do some outside with nicer light, but for a Thursday night these are pretty good. You can click on them to see them larger.

Look at this! Even Ben said cheese. And this was right before bed on a no nap day!

After we had one good one we let them go back to their normal ways.

Okay, so us parents are pretty much weirdos too.

And then Ben let us know it was officially time for bed.

If you're in Reader click on through for our new header. Although it's good to no longer have bald Ben up there, I can't keep that sad face up for too long no matter how funny it is, so this one is probably temporary!

Ben at 2 and a half

This might be a random list, but Ben is doing and saying so many cute things lately and I know I will forget them if I don't write them down.

Some of my favorite little mumbles are:

Every morning when I walk into his room he says quietly in his little man voice, "Hi, mom. I playing cars in my bed", or "I driving cars on my legs". It's so sweet how he just sits and plays until we come and get him. I can't remember the last time he cried in the morning. When I do get him up I either get a squeal or a tiny, "Thanks, mom".

He loves his bike helmet, or "bike hat" as he calls it, and wears it all the time. Modeled here with shark slippers and flower stickers on his shirt.

He says, "me me" for excuse me.

If you ask if he's finished his food he says, "Yeah. It's right here. In Ben's mouth". Or sometimes he just points to his belly and says it's in Ben.

He calls his grandma Grammie, even though none of the other grandkids have ever called her that.

If you ask him how he's doing or how old he is he always answers, "I'm Ben".

He has the funniest accent on certain words. Upstairs and over there sound like, upsturrs, over thurr, etc.

I'll never get enough of his, "Luzz you, mom. Can-I-getta hug?"

He still talks about his "Baby friends" any time we go to church or Bible study. Usually it's, "I don't wanna see my baby friends!" as we're driving there. The other day he cried when I dropped him off, which he rarely does. When I picked him up he was so proud that he danced all around yelling, "I stayed and played with my baby friends!".

Like his big sister did, he sometimes apologizes to random objects. A few weeks back he spilled water on his pants and sadly looked down and said, "Oh, too bad pants...".

He is still counting everything. His current favorite combination is, "One, two...ten!", and then he usually takes off running somewhere. Colors are still a mish-mash. The other day I asked him one and he got it right. So I held up a shirt and asked him what color it was, and he proudly shouted, "It's nine!". Good job, baby. :)

He loves to be outside. Now that we're having more sunny days he constantly says, "I need go to da park!". All. Day. Long.

Every ride in the car (or even walk around the house) is directed with, "Dat way, mommy. No! Dat way!". He definitely knows what he wants, and sometimes we mean parents tease him when he's grouchy just to hear him say no to fun things. "I don't want candy! I don't want to drive mom's car! I don't want to stay up all night!". hee hee

Haircut time

Me: "I love you, Ben"
Ben: "I love chocolate cookies"
He is his mother's son.

He's such a sweetie. The other night he got up from the dinner table, walked to the cooktop and tiptoed to reach a spoon while asking, "You want more dinner, mommy?"

He asks permission for everything. And I mean everything. Some days one child will be crying and one will be needing help with homework and a pan will be about to boil over on the stove while a dog is whining at the back door and Ben will be yelling at the top of his lungs from another room, "Can I play cars, mom? CAN I PLAY CARS?!?!?". Yes! Go for it, buddy! Sometimes he even lifts a bite to his mouth and asks before he chomps down, "Can I eat it?". Of course some days he doesn't ask permission for anything, but it's pretty darn sweet while it lasts.

Me: "Oh Ben, you never stop moving!"
Ben: "No, I don't"

He's super physical. All day long he's climbing, running, being a boy. He likes to hop and jump while we walk, which can be tricky when we're in the middle of a road and cars are waiting for us to cross. He also likes to do this sort of headstand/ yoga move all the time. It cracks us up, and it's almost always accompanied by a proud, "Wook at me!". And there's really nothing cuter than him dancing in a diaper before his bath.

I know I'm forgetting all the daily little things he says. He's growing and changing at warp speed these days, and his talking is getting more and more like a big boy. I'm so thankful for this sweetie boy!

Little House

A few weeks ago Anna had her long anticipated Little House party at school. This party is a second grade tradition, held the week after the class finishes their books. We ordered her costume in December and she has been dying to wear it ever since. That morning we had no trouble getting her dressed for school.

When I arrived they were having their in class picnic, complete with johnny cakes, maple candy and several other "Little House foods".
The whole party was supposed to take place in another building on campus, but that morning they couldn't get any heat in the building (!), so the party was moved to their regular class building. The kids didn't seem to mind.

In another room they had set up all of the activities and games. Hop scotch was a hit.

Anna and her friend Julia stuck close together for most of the party.  :)

Stump jumping. I wondered what on earth this game was going to be when I saw it on the party schedule. I have to say I was relieved that they were only paper stumps!

And how cute are they?! Several of the moms dressed up (not me!). This is Anna's teacher on the left and my good friend from Bible study on the right. She told me she double checked her gas tank that day because breaking down on the side of the road in that get-up might be a problem, ha.

Square dancing was hee-larious. I was scheduled to help with this area, but luckily they had plenty of helpers so I could just take photos and not embarrass myself. Like the beard on Anna's friend Jack? Videos coming later, hee hee.

In another room they had a little craft station where the kids made tiny covered wagons.

This same room had the mercantile store.

The kids each got a bag of pennies that they could use to buy penny candy. Just like Mary and Laura Ingalls! This was clearly a favorite of all the kids.

How adorable are these girls?! While I will always love the Little House party for all of my kids, I will admit I was soaking up the time with my girl and her sweet little dress and bonnet.  :)
