RS Evening Activity - GARDENING!

Let's get together Tuesday, April 5th at 7pm and learn more about gardening--what to plant, when to plant, what grows best in the great northwest, and learn it all from a visiting expert on the subject. We will provide seeds to those who come as well as a reusable monthly organizer so you know exactly when to plant for optimal results. We will offer the organizer for a nominal fee of $1; sign up for one in the binder if you are interested. Be sure to join us and invite a friend.

Smoothie Recipes

Green Smoothie (aka Frog Nog)
2-4 cups spinach or kale (we used 4 cups fresh baby spinach)
1-2 cups water (depending how thick you like it)
1-2 bananas (we used 2)
1 heaping cup frozen pineapple chunks
1 cup frozen mango, peaches or other light fruit (you can use strawberries too)
1 Tbsp. honey or agave (optional for sweetness)

Fill blender with spinach -- lots of it! Then add water. Pulse to blend into green "water". Next add your bananas, frozen fruit and sweetener. Puree long enough to blend it well to make sure it is as smooth as possible. Pour into glasses and serve!

Breakfast Smoothie (the pink one)
1 cup cranberry juice
1/2 cup strawberries
1 small orange
1 banana
1 cup ice cubes

Place all ingredients in blender in order listed. Turn on blender to low speed and work your way quickly to high speed. Blend until smooth. Makes 2 1/2 cups.

Peach Berry Smoothie (the bright pink one)
1 1/4 cup orange juice
1 cup frozen raspberries
1 cup frozen peaches
1/4 cup ice cubes
sweeten to taste (honey or agave)

Place all ingredients in blender in order listed. Turn on blender to low speed and work your way quickly to high speed. Blend until smooth. Makes 3 cups.

Smoothie Tips:
Don't be afraid to substitue! If you don't have something on hand, use what you have. You'll be surprised how easy they are to throw together. Also, don't be afraid to sweeten it up with honey or agave (found near honey section). If you don't have ice, you can use frozen fruit as a substitute. Or if you only have fresh fruit, use a little ice in place of frozen fruit.
