School Work

Every day Ellie brings home worksheets and projects they did in class.  I enjoy seeing what she is doing and hearing the stories that come from discussing her work. Monday she brought home the following:

They were finishing up the color red and as you can see the assignment was to draw something red.  Ellie happened to be wearing her favorite red, white, and blue skirt with the matching red shirt--notice Mrs. Malia's note at the bottom.

They have also been doing a lot of tracing activities to get ready for writing and Monday's tracing was circles.  When I asked about this assignment she smiled and said, "We were making circles so I gave the doggie some treats and the people some food."  Note they are all circles.

Now Ellie has been able to write her name since she was 2.  The last few months she has been exploring the difference between upper and lower case letters so when she writes her name it can have any combination of upper and lower case.  I once mentioned that the only upper case letter in a name should be the first letter, but never really pushed the issue--I figured eventually it would work itself out like the capital E with several extra lines (you remember).  Well today Mrs. Malia was helping them write their names correctly and Ellie said, "My Mom told me that at home once."  It will be interesting to see how she writes her name on her work next week.

Lila Moving and Shaking

Her favorite obstacle course this week.

When she saw this little boy coming she turned around and started reaching for his hand.  I thought she was going to shove his hand or something possessive like that so I asked her to leave him alone and keep coming.  When the boy finally grabbed the bar she nodded, clapped, and then continued forward .  I guess she was only trying to show him how it was done. :)

This is a much bigger one of the bars and she was so proud of herself for getting up there.

After School Ramblings

Ellie: "Why don't I ride the bus to Mrs. Malia's?"
Mom: "Buses don't go to Mrs. Malia's because it is her home."
Ellie: "So when do I get to ride the bus to school?"
Mom: "Maybe next year."
Ellie: "Well if I don't ride the bus next year I'm going to ride my bike."

Ellie (without stopping for a breath): "There is a boy in my class that is 5.  Megan's 5.  When am I going to be 5.  Will Ben be 5 before me?  When I'm 5 I want to stay 5 and then when I'm 6 I want to stay 6.  That's just how it is going to be."

Lila and I started a little tumbling class yesterday while Ellie is in preschool.  She loved it.  I held her up to the window to look in at the room before class started and her eyes got so wide and excited.  It is a lot of fun.  They have a soft mat down with an obstacle course with different foam shapes for them to climb on and balancing beams.  They have races and music for dancing. A Parachute and balls.  Toys to play with.  Lila was in heaven just running around and climbing.  Her favorite part was going to do somersaults over and over.  She would get a little frustrated with the slight pauses for instruction.  I'm going to try and get some pictures or video next week.  She is so much fun to watch run around and explore.

Here are some recent pictures.

Playdough Fun

Lila's first corn on the cob. She reached over and grabbed it off my plate.

After I did Ellie's hair this morning Lila was trying to put barrettes in her hair.  So I found these tiny ones and tried to take a picture, but she was having none of it--I couldn't believe my ham wouldn't smile for a picture. If you click on the picture with Lila you might be able to see the small green barrette in her hair.
