Summer 2012

Catching up on my blog is an impossible task, so I've decided to summarize a few months.  This summer we went camping in Moab and got eaten by tiny gnats that drew blood when they bit.  We still had a lot of fun hiking and enjoying the beautiful scenery though.

We also went to Lake Powell in July and had an amazing time there (as usual).  The weather was amazing for the most part.  We did have 1 night with really strong winds that shook up the potties on board and caused quite a stink in the house boat.  Literally.  It was gross. When we said our dinner prayer we asked for the winds to subside and the smell to go away and about an hour later our prayers were answered.  We were pretty relieved.  My little girls were so brave and decided to try a little cliff jumping.  The cliffs were only 3-5 feet, but it was enough to scare me.  It also made me feel like a wimp because I didn't want to do it; but I did!  Gotta be brave for the girls.  Other than that we spent most of the time relaxing on the ski boat, playing in the sand and jumping off the house boat.  I even jumped off the diving board on the house boat.  It's about 10 feet above the water, so that was quite an accomplishment for me.  Once again I didn't want to look like a wimp when the 7 year old with us was doing it.  Kaitlin and Cadence had fun going down the slide which is about 4 feet above the water.  Kaitlin was a little nervous and wanted Steve to catch her.  He did, and hurt his shoulder.  (We found out in October that it actually tore his rotator cuff.  He ended up having surgery on Nov. 1st to fix it.)  Our guests on the lake this year were: Brett, Cori, Lexi, Ashlyn, Reece, and their cousin Allie.  We also had Steve's cousin  RJ and his wife Kirsten there for a few days.  It was a fun trip, and probably our last Lake Powell trip for a while :(

We went to several Bees games over the summer and had lots of fun with family and friends at those.  The girls and I went to 7 Peaks 1 time & Trafalga 1 time to use our Pass of All Passes.  We gotta get more use out of those next year.

The girls performed their dance at Lehi City celebration, and also up in Salt Lake.

We spent a week down in our Zion house in August with Matt and Loni and their kids.  We had fun hiking, swimming, eating good food and being with friends.  Loni and I hiked to Angel's Landing one day.  It was a really fun hike, but a little scary.  The view was amazing though and I would like to do it again one day.

That is all I can remember at this point, and will try to find some pictures to go along with it.

6 Years Old!

Barbie Pary

The night before their friend party we had a family party. I went all out with the Barbie/pink theme and served pink slush drink, cakeball/strawberry/marshmallow kabobs  (I forgot to take a picture of the ones I made, so this is a sample from the website I got the idea from)  I know we served other things, but I can't remember since that was over 6 months ago.  I really need to blog more often so I don't forget things.  It was a lot of work to get everything ready for 2 parties, but was totally worth it.  I think the girls had a good birthday.

They wanted a  Barbie theme, and I really wanted to make the doll cakes like my mom made me when I was little.  I am by no means a professional cake decorator, but I think they turned out okay.  I tried to personalize them for each girl. (notice the brown haired barbie for Kaitlin & blonde for Cadence)  The first thing we did was play put the sunglasses on Barbie, then we had a treasure hunt, opened presents, and ended with a lunch of stacked strawberry jam finger sandwiches, the kabobs shown above, watermelon and strawberry slush drink.

I also made a big one to cut for everyone.

Those attending included Maddie, Mia, Alix, Maylee, Madison, Ruby Savannah & Mylie

We played pin the sunglasses on Barbie then reused them on ourselves afterward because the looked so funny.
I thought it was a really good look on Steve.

Spring Dance Recital

The girls danced to Stupid Cupid for their spring recital.  When they got on stage their dance teacher had to adjust their positions.  When she got to Kaitlin she picked her up to move her and accidentally poked her in the eye with her paper (we didn't realize what happened at this point though).  We thought she was just embarrassed from being moved and  was crying because of that.  We all felt so bad, but she pulled it together and the audience cheered for her.  I was really proud that she could overcome that.  I went backstage as soon as the dance was over to check on her and found out that not only was she poked in the eye, but when she rubbed her eye she got glitter from her costume in it also.  We had to go to the bathroom and rinse her eye out with saline.  The glitter was stuck to her face and was really hard to get off.  The both did and excellent job dancing and were so excited to get their trophies.

Kindergarten Graduation

The Kindergarteners did a wonderful program full of songs and all the things they learned.  The girls got to do a dancing part.  They were a monkey and a Lion and did a wonderful job!  After their program, we all went back to their classroom and they were given their certificate from Mrs. Williams along with a little graduation bottle of bubbles.  She even made graduation hats for them to wear.  They looked so cute and all grown up.  After passing out their certificates we had some cookies got some pictures around the classroom and with Mrs. Williams then went out to lunch with Grandma and Grandpa

Kaitlin as an elephant,  too bad there wasn't a bear part for our little "Kaitlin Bear"
 Cadence as a monkey

This classroom decoration describes our girls perfectly.  I call them my opposite twins, but they are very alike in many ways also.
Mrs. Williams was an excellent teacher and the girls learned so much!

Kindergargen Field Trip to Hogle Zoo

I was able to accompany the girls on their first field trip.  We rode the bus to Hogle Zoo, had a few hours to see the animals and have lunch then we rode the bus home.  It was fun and I was  glad I got to go with them.

2011 Christmas Dance Rectial

Yep, I'm still playing catch up I kind of use this as a journal also, so I try to get a little bit of everything in here.  The girls dance studio Showcase USA held their Christmas  recital at Lehi High school.  The girls were so excited to perform and watch the other dancers.  They danced to "I'm gettin' slippers this Christmas".  Their costumes were Pink and Purple Christmas pajamas, and their Thing 1 and Thing 2 slippers.  I think I was more nervous than they were.  I was afraid that they would get up there and be too scared to perform, but they did great!  Kaitlin especially loved watching the other dancers.  Cadence stayed  back stage after their performance with her class and just had a lot of fun socializing.  They both said it was really fun to dance in front of an audience.  I think we've had a little break through in dance.  I wasn't sure if they were going to like it, but they seem to now.  I think they like the attention.
