Two finishes in two days

After my whining about not having anything finished in 2009 yet, here's my second finish in two days. This has been my travel project for quite a while and most of it was done in my DD's orthodontist's office. I picked it up this morning when I was in that "after project finish slumpy thing" and realised that it only needed the back-stitch and beads. So I finished it off and here it is for your enjoyment. LOL. I will eventually be finishing it properly into a pincushion.

My first 2009 finish

I've finally managed to finish this ornament that I started on Jan 7. It shouldn't have taken that long...it's just that I got sidetracked with my mantelpiece thingie. That is also coming along nicely and I'll post an updated WIP pic soon.

My next BAP

You may have seen a mention of my newest BAP in my 2009 goals. It's called Holiday Fireplace Mantelpiece and I'm totally in love with it. Why? I don't know...especially since it's a snow scene. But anyway.........

There's a very long story to how I began this. The design comes from Cross Stitch & Needlework magazine and was in 3 parts. Carol sent me the mag with part 3 in it as part of an exchange back in 2007. I fell in love with the piece straight away but realised I probably wouldn't be able to obtain the back issues of the mag plus it's a needlepoint on canvas so put all thoughts of stitching it aside. In November 2008 I found that Needle in a Haystack had it in their on-line catalogue...along with all the threads, canvas and back issues. Ooooooh! Then I discovered that using the suggested threads (which were mostly silks & metallics) would cost me more than US$300!!!! So I re-thought once again. Then I decided to do it as a cross-stitch, using DMC and some metallics on 28ct linen which would fit my mantel perfectly. So I have now started it. Egads....that sky takes forever (& I'm only stitching part 1!)!! Do you wanna see a WIP? It's very exciting...not! LOL.
There's more sky on the left (& a moon) but that's pretty boring. Plus there was no way I could take a pic of the whole thing without it looking like a tiny tiny thing on a huge expanse of white fabric!

Nothing finished for 2009 yet

I can't believe that it's the 10th and I've finished nothing! I thought I would've done an ornament at least. But I have nothing. But I have been stash shopping. I took advantage of Lois's sale and got a couple of things and then on Wednesday I went over to my LNS and spent $100, mostly on linen. Margaret has a great basket of end bits of linen so I grovelled through that & got some bargains!

So because it's been a while since I've updated, I thought I'd give you a progress shot of Finch Song. I'm really enjoying stitching all the motifs...they make you feel like you're accomplishing something and of course, you are!

My 2008 goals are a mixed bag but I think I did pretty well. I mean, they weren't very specific!

Start Earth Gatherers - well, yes I did this!
Finish My Earth (that is, assuming I start it now!) - yes!
Finish An Open Heart - no. I don't think I've even stitched on it this year.
Find & stitch on Renoir Lady Sewing (find being the operative word) - Good news and bad news here. I found it but I didn't stitch on it!
Get a good start on the SB 2008 retreat piece whatever it is, in Sept - yes, it's coming along quite nicely
Start as many projects as I desire - LOL I think this is an easy one. Obviously I did well at this one!

So, goals for 2009? Hmmm...let's see....

  • Stitch on An Open Heart (notice I don't say 'finish'??)
  • Stitch SB's 2008 fob
  • Stitch on the Renoir piece
  • Finish SB Finch Song (retreat piece)
  • Start on my BAP mantlepiece project (details later on this one)

I think that will do. I wish everyone a happy and stitchy 2009!
