California Time

We made it! We had a good (though tearful :) last day in SC and a great trip across the country, full of church history sites and visits with family. We decided to drive the whole way together, instead of the kids and I flying out separately like we had planned. I'm so glad we did. It was an awesome trip and a great time for our family. Then, less than 24 hours after driving into town we found a house! It will be ready in 3 to 5 weeks, depending on when the owners close on their new home. We are resting and enjoying visiting here at Grandma and Grandpa's house until we move in. Jared is working on getting things set up at the office and the kids are spending just about every moment playing in the back yard. More details on the past couple of weeks and lots of pictures to come!

Good Bye

Well, we did it! We loaded the truck, vacationed in Charleston, Jared Graduated, the kids had an awesome Birthday/Going Away Party, we had a great big farewell dinner with our dear neighbor friends, Mike, Diane, April, Kyle, Tristan and Delia, and now our kids are asleep for their last night in our SC home. Tomorrow morning I'll give a talk in Sacrament Meeting, Jared will give his last Sunday School lesson and then we will be on our way. We are planning on visiting Nauvoo, Jared's brother Josh's family and his Grandpa Stubblefield. The kids and I will fly out of Omaha Friday morning. Jared will continue through, in the car with the dogs, and should be to us by Saturday night or sometime Sunday. I will post pictures and stories of our latest adventures after we get settled in CA. We'll be staying with Jared's parents while we look for our new house.

We are grateful for all the help and care we've received in these last few weeks from family and friends! Thank You!

Good Bye, South Carolina! We love you!

The Swiss Family Stubblefield

Jared took the kids to the book store earlier this week and brought home "The Swiss Family Robinson." So far, I highly recommend this book as a first classic to read to little ones. It is so exciting and fun and it is filled with lessons of family and faith. We have been reading it to the kids and acting out the story, like our Book of Mormon stories. Hannah is "Fritz" and Ben is "Jack." Elsie and Rhynnie are "Turk" and "Juno" of course. It has been a lot of fun! :) Any suggestions for other classics that would be fun for young children?

Be Careful Where You Decide to Fight the Lamanites :)

Well, the kids and I started acting out some of the stories from our family Book of Mormon study during the day while Jared was away at clinic. After reading the story of the people of Zeniff's battle with the Lamanites, Hannah decided we needed some good swords. Nothing in the house was sufficient so we head out for our walk, hoping to find some good sword like sticks. We were successful. Hannah was a Nephite warrior for a while and fought the ruthless Benjamin Lamanite. We talked about how the people also used sling shots, but since we didn't have any we just threw rocks. (We were all Nephites for that bit. :) They loved it. Then she decided that Mommy should be the Daddy and she would be the Mommy and Ben would be "the children." I piled them up in the wagon and "hid" them in the "woods." :) Then I took my sword and went out to fight the Lamanites, a few feet away, in the road behind our house. I really let those guys have it. I swung my "sword" like a crazy girl and threw rocks with all my strength. When I felt like I'd done the job, I looked up to find, our neighbor friend, Mike. He was standing outside starring at me. He thought I'd lost my mind and had a good chuckle at me. :) He drove down to say hello. I wasn't too embarrassed and told him not to worry because we wouldn't be having any more trouble from those guys. :) He said, "Well I guess not!!" :) And then kindly offered to give our little band of Nephites a ride around the block on his golf cart. :) The moral of the story is...pick your battles wisely AND pick where you engage in those battles wisely too. :) When I told Jared he had a great laugh and told me I had to blog it. :)

Benjamin Enoch

Here's what he looked like about two years ago...

Aunt Jan
Great-Grandma Gwyn & Papa
Grandma Lois

Grandpa
Grandma
Big Sister
Our Benjamin is light and joy! He is hilarious and fun, caring and tender!

Lately he likes blankets and towels and anything he can wrap around like a cloak with a "hat" over his head or crawl under and disappear. I'll look over and he's completely hidden under my bathrobe...his favorite "blanket."

He loves rolling balls down hills and then running down after them.

He sings and dances with his whole heart.

He loves to vacuum!

Sometimes he likes to do his hair with a hair dryer and comb like Mama. For a while he liked "doing" Hannah's hair that way. :)

He loves to know the word for things. He will just point to things and ask, "this?" And I'll tell him the word and he'll repeat it with glee.

He puts puppets on his hands and talks for them in a little puppet voice...so funny!

He loves bugs and being outside.

He loves wrestling with his Dad and cuddling with his Mom.

He loves to say "I wuv you!" And sometimes playing around and being funny when he says it he sounds like Scooby Doo. :)

For those of you who haven't had a chance to get to know him, I hope some day you do, because there is nobody like Ben. He is pure joy and I am thankful everyday he came to our family.

The Beginning of June...

What a fun season to be finishing up our time here in South Carolina! June is a month full of wrapping up activities and looking forward to summer vacation. Here, it also happens to be a month full of birthday parties and early summer fun..a good chance to visit with and say goodbye to friends. So, for the kids, this big transition is being marked by very tangible moments of accomplishment and letting go. I am so thankful for that. Here are the highlights from this week...

YMCA Soccer Ice Cream Social & Trophy Ceremony
While the cats were away, this mouse stayed home and packed, packed packed. But, when Hannah got home she was still on cloud nine over her trophy! She danced all around, placed it proudly on the dresser and then carried it around every where for a while. She almost fell asleep with it! :)

Water Play at the Park with Ella & Aden
I'm still not really sure what I'm going to do with out Brittney (Ella and Aden's Mom :). Not only is it quite possible that I will never have a whole year of 100% Visiting Teaching stats again :), but she is just such a great friend and there isn't anybody else like her. Benjamin will miss his Ella and Hannah her playmates! Thanks for all the fun times Filter family!

He's not running here. He is dancing!
Ben has an excited dance that delights the heart! :)

Benjamin Turns Two!!
Benjamin's 2nd Birthday began with a breakfast of pancakes and real maple syrup! Soo, yummy! :) Here he is digging in. Jared brought home balloons that morning, one of Ben's favorite things, in his favorite color.."geen!" Benjamin kept them close by throughout the meal. :)

For his next bit of Birthday fun we put the kids in their mud boots and took them out puddle stomping. Ben has really been wanting to get into the puddles this spring. We had been waiting until we unpacked the boots. After we did, there were a few days without rain, so the last time we tried, the stompin' wasn't quite as much fun as with great big full puddles. The night before Ben's birthday we got a great big rain and the puddles were perfect. He was delighted and the kids stomped and plashed until Ben fell in and we headed in for a bath. :) Wish we had pictures.

Next up, haircuts at "Kidz Kutz." Hannah loved her "salon" experience! She was beaming the entire time!

Ben had a great time playing in the play area, but got pretty serious about having his hair cut. (He wanted to hold my hand. :)

Next was dinner at the Outback (which has nice gluten free menu) with Michael and Sally (our pals, the Hogues). Michael is really good buddies with our kids and Benjamin adores him! Thanks for celebrating with us guys! (And thanks to Michael for helping us heft heavy boxes around a couple times this week!)
Dinner ran long and so we headed home to bed instead of to cake. But that just meant Ben got two days of celebrating...quite appropriate, I thought! :) Day two included his presents, "A House is a House for Me" (a story book) and a sweet giraffe.

Then birthday cake! After we sang to him, he asked us to sing again. He joined in this time with gusto. :) Then he stuck the candle back in the cake and asked me to light it back up. He blew out his candle about ten times, loving every second of it! : ) Ben is so much fun! Happy Birthday, buddy! We love you!

Princess Party!
It was Hannah's first real princess party and she had a wonderful time. I was so glad to reunite and visit with my "Dance Moms." We became such sweet friends. I will miss them dearly.Playing doll house with Emma Jane.Showing off the lip gloss she just made.
Playing in the toy store.
Manicure time. Jenna is the birthday girl on the right.
Jamie, Jenna's Mom and one of my "Dance Moms," is painting Hannah's nails.
Pizza!!
Happy Birthday Jenna!

Swim & Play Party
Again I stayed home for more sorting and packing, another nice benefit to all of these activities : ), but the kids swam and played the afternoon right away at Talon and Lauren's  party.

Health Update

I'm so happy to report that Jared's ear is just about 100%. He is relieved to have the ringing gone and his hearing back.

I have set two health goals into action and am being blessed with every bit of strength I need. I know the Lord helps those who help themselves and I am thankful for inspiration and guidance in the details of our lives.

Ear Update & The Cap & Gown Are in the House!

Well, Jared's ear drum has ruptured. An MD, professor, at the Sherman Clinic re-examined his ear today and called and conferred with a friend of his that is an ENT in Myrtle Beach. The good news is the infection is gone and, today, he is feeling a lot better and has even begun to regain some hearing. We're hoping it will just heal right up!

In other news, Jared finished up at the Clinic today...Hooray! And brought home the most beautiful cap and gown I've ever seen! :) We are counting down!!
