Lifting Burdens

Today...

...for lunch we had bread pizzas. Hannah got some sauce on her chin and said, "I need something to wipe my beard." :)

Tonight...I started to sing "I Feel My Savior's Love" to help her to sleep. She said, "No, sing a song that goes like this" and proceeded to sing..."I love my Savior. He died for us. It was sad. But His mother knew His John would take care of her after He was dead. And He died for us, so we could be resurrected." So, I sang her that one instead. :)

I love that girl!

"Carpe, Carpe..."

Gifted Hands Movie Trailer

A Great Movie

Sad fact, but it's true, they just don't make good movies any more. I know it makes me old and terribly uncool, but I have to say, they really don't make movies they way they did when I was a kid! :) Jared and I, a year or so back, said, no more PG-13s. Whenever we made an exception to that rule we regretted it. Then after a couple PGs that made me check the rating a couple times because I could'nt believe it and not even seeing any G movies that seemed worth while, I pretty much gave up. Which is kind of sad because I love! a good movie.

For a while I thought, is it just me?? But then I read a quick snip of an interview with a Hollywood Actor, not even sure who he was, that said, he couldn't believe the scripts he was seeing. He basically said movies had gone to crud. So, I know there are at least two of us that think so. :)

But Jared's sister Emily loaned us their Netflix movie two nights ago. It is called "Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story." Cuba Gooding Jr. plays Ben Carson. It was made for cable, not the theater, but I hope that it would be available in the RedBox or wherever else people rent movies these days. It was awesome! We laughed, we cried, we were inspired and there was not one time we had to look away, cover our ears or felt bad for watching. So, I highly recommend it and thanks so much to Emily and Aaron for passing it along!

Any others of it's kind out there? I've been thinking I should gather a list of the good ones. Any suggestions??

Potty Time!

Well for the last month or so Benjamin has been beginning his transition to the potty. For a while before that he was showing tons of interest and so it was time to purchase the potty...the frog potty. I learned a lot from our experience with Hannah and we are for sure not rushing it this time and are taking our cues from him....a much more relaxing and successful experience so far. :) This past week he has been showing even more interest and is having some success every day. We'll see how long this phase lasts and when he'll be ready to let go of those diapers for good. Another thing I learned from Hannah, potty training happens in phases. :) Usually, I shy away from the potty shots, as I've never figured out how to keep 'em modest, but Ben took care of that for me yesterday morning. He took whale potty with him. :) Here they are! Fun times! :)
Yes, he's waving! :)
What a happy guy! :)

At the Grocery

Preschool

Well, the first week of preschool at our house was last week and it went alright. On the first day one of the kiddos excalimed, without any prompting or bribing :), "This is fun!," another called me "Teacher," loved that, so sweet, and a third explained to her Mom on the way out the door how paper came from trees, something we learned that day. Meanwhile, I learned that I love double sided tape :) and have finally laid to rest my marketable skill dilemma.

Ever since leaving my grad school program (turned out that School Psychology really wasn't for me and luckily Jared was :), I've fretted over the fact that I don't really have a "marketable skill" like the Prophets encourage. Off and on I've been looking for a "skill" I could acquire and the education I might need to acquire it. About a month ago I even took an interests/apptitudes/work style survey intended to shed some light on what skills I should maybe look at acquiring.

But, as it turns out my skill was there under my nose the whole time, along with the education and experience to at least get started if I needed to...Preschool Teaching! And, it fits my test results to a "t." Plus, I really enjoyed doing it, it was lots of fun. I like the planning and the preparation just as much as the execution and I love the kids! 4 is a good age! :)

So, now when I do get the chance to add that online degree to my resume, I'll be looking for early childhood education and, when my last little birdie has flown the coop, I have at least one good idea for starting to fill up that season of my life. :) Not to mention it is always a relief to know that if I ever had to get a job, I could. Yay for having a marketable skill!!

A couple of other gems from this week, before the pictures...If you want a good laugh, ask preschoolers to guess how old you are! :) We were talking about the age of trees, counting the rings, and the tree we were looking at happened to be 4, just like the kids. Then we talked about when the tree got older like me. I asked, "How old do you guys think I am??"

 45?
Nope.

66?
Nope.  :) Loved that one! :)

7?
No, not 7.

Too funny!!!  And after talking about scary movies and Hannah informing the group that her Daddy exercises with Jackson's Daddy so he can be big and strong to protect her and her family from all the scary things and bad guys, in all seriousness and innocence, one of the other little boys said, "Well, my Dad is bigger than your  Dad." :) Adorable!

Ok, here are some photos from the first week of Preschool at our house...
"Circle Time"
"Participation Story"
Working on their "framed artwork."
(We are borrowing that couch from some friends of ours in our ward and the table and chairs from Jared's parents. Turns out a big, empty house is very handy for something...preschool. :)
Snack Time.
Before preschool began Ben really thought he wanted to join in and be like Hannah. After about 3 minutes, I think he realized that there's a reason 2-year-olds don't generally attend. Jared was home that morning and took Ben and set him up with some paints, a smock and a paint brush and he was happy as a clam for the rest of "Preschool." He didn't have any trouble joining in snack time though :)!
Day 2: The kids are all yelling, "Moose!"
Here's what Hannah's fridge looked like after a week of preschool at our house! :) I hope the other kids had fun and that their Mama's enjoyed their fridge full of preschool artwork as much as we did! :)

Daddy To Be

The week before last I walked in the kid's room to find Benjamin helping his little baby doll, from Aunt Becky & Uncle Thad, to sleep. He was patting and snuggling him so gently. I wanted to snap a picture, but before I could he was up and away. :)

Here he is, Benjamin and his baby.
Hannah was playing with her doll that day too. I took a picture of them both. Hannah has her doll in a baby carrier, like her Mama likes to do :), and Ben, was holding his baby like this...
...which is exactly how you hold a newborn to check them for misalignment. :) Maybe he's a chiropractor to be too. :)

A few days a go, just being proud of him and letting him know how I notice that he's growing up, I said, something like, "Ben you're not a baby anymore now, you're a little boy." He said, "I not little. I big. I Daddy." :)

I remember how it warmed my heart watching Hannah when she first started playing little Mommy and starting to talk about how when she would be a Mama. Now, it's awfully sweet watching my boy playing Daddy and knowing who he is too! :)

Bishop's Pumpkin Farm

I am so glad for our annual farm day. This year especially because for some reason it felt like home for a little while. We went a couple Thursdays ago and we were blessed to share the day with Grandma & Grandpa and the Lyons.

Ben was one sleepy little boy (he is in the process of letting his naps go and some afternoons he still gets a little tired) on a mission. He just wanted to ride the train...everything else was gravy. :) He was so pleased to have his little train hat to take along. Meanwhile, Hannah loved having her cousins there, especially her dear Kelman. They played "old farmers," husband and wife :), for some of the afternoon. Kelman taught Hannah how to drive the tractor (although she assured me later that she already knew how :) and Hannah "gathered up all [their] animals."

Bishop's Pumpkin Farm is a neat place with lots to do. Jared was bummed out that we missed the pig race, the "NASPIG race" :), so if we're lucky we'll head back over there before the month is out to catch one...and pick up a jug of cider for our annual Fall Party! :)

Here is a photo documentary of our day at the farm...
Welcome to the Pumpkin Farm!
Driving the farm truck.

"Train hat."
We were going to look around and wait for Grandma & Grandpa & the Lyons to join us, but Ben wasn't having it! :) He ran straight for the train and was ready to ride.
Brielle, Carter, Benjamin, Hannah, Kelman :)

Little guy giving his Mama a kiss. :)
Watching the piglets and their "big Mama."
I thought it was cute that the pigs were sleeping on each other. Hannah loved that two of them were nipping at each other and wrestling around like our dogs. :)

A little trick she learned out on the Walter's farm. :)
Ben in the barn.

And their off!
He checks his competition.
Back to racing!

All the way at the top.

Grandma told them to put on their sad faces and they did a good job! Just, look at those pouty lips! :)
Hello.

How tall this fall? :)

Tractor driving lessons. :)

Everybody on the big tires.
Ice Cream treat! Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!
We loved the hay-ride and visit to the pumpkin patch! It was mine and Jared's favorite part of the day!
Cuddling with Grandma on the hay-ride. Hannah's favorite spot. :)

Hannah lead us on the hunt for the perfect pumpkin. She was serious and focused in her task. As soon as she saw her pumpkin, she knew it was the one and was very proud of her newly discovered "talent" for choosing a pumpkin. :)
The perfect pumpkins.
Ben chose one right next to Hannah's. Jared asked Hannah if she wanted a bigger one. She said, "Nope, I'm a little girl and I want one my size." :)

The traditional wheelbarrow ride back to the car.
