conversations

A conversation that occurred in our house yesterday...

Dallin (screaming)  "Mommy, the microwave is broken come here!!!!"
Me (upstairs, getting clothes for the little ones) "What?!"
Dallin "Hurry Mommy, come quick the microwave stopped working!!!"
Me (thinking great, we can't afford a new microwave right now, and wow buying the top of the line one 3years ago did us no good at all)  I make my way into the kitchen.
Dallin (grabbing my hand and dragging me to the microwave as he explains) "I put my oatmeal in the microwave and cooked it twice and it still looks like it came out of the bag--it's not cooking."
Me "Ok, Ok, let me look." (I open the microwave, remove the bowl and start to laugh, then seeing his face I try to refrain.)  "You forgot to add the milk sweetie!  It can't look right unless you add the milk."

I have the greatest kids.

Awards and Recital

Well the school year ended and we are halfway through week 2 of summer.  I took the kiddos to the pool this morning and after being home for an hour and a half, all four kids are bathed and dressed, the two younger ones are napping, older ones watching a movie, the bags are unpacked, the laundry started and I am showered and dressed.  My goodness, it is definitely more work getting ready and coming home from the pool then it is being there.  But, it wears them out and I love that!!

Anyway summer is going just fine, I am adjusting better and time now to brag on my two oldest!!

Two days before school was out both kinder and 2nd grade had their award ceremonies.  I am so proud of my kids.  In kinder they sang cute songs and showed a slide show that made me cry.  Mrs. Kelley, Dallin's teacher, handed out little awards and talked about each kid, it was so very sweet.  They told the kids they could dress up for it and Dallin insisted on going all out, wearing a shirt and tie.  I stayed and made him change after, so I could take those clothes home.  I love his sweetness!

Waiting to sing their songs
His graduation paper on the wall.  It reads, "I like Kindergarten.  My teacher was Mrs. Kelley.  I learned subtraction.  My favorite thing was the robots.  I want to learn multiplication."
 Mrs. Kelley's class
Kylie and Dallin (for weeks, at the beginning of the year, Dallin kept saying, Kylie can eat and Kylie can talk.  Kylie can walk.  We kept correcting him and thought he was just wishing his sister could do those things, until finally, aha!  We learned there is another adorable Kylie out there.  They became good friends.)

Emily's class handed out individual awards.  Emily's was the kindest award.  She made friends with the new girl, Maddie who also just happens to go to Church with us.  Also her teacher said that she didn't have a mean bone in her body and was nice to everyone.  I second that whole-heartily.  She also received an honor roll medal.  They gave the same medal if you made all A's or all A's and B's for the whole year, but she in fact, made all A's for the entire year!  She is amazing and we are so so so very proud of our little bookworm.  Also, in second grade they still test reading levels, but they cap how high they will test for that grade-level, just like in first grade she maxed out the cap.  She is an excellent reader and can't get enough books.  I will actually suggest to her to watch some TV every once in a while!  :)

That night was their piano recital.  It was Dallin's first and Emily's second (but Emily's 3rd year of piano).  They both did great.  They performed their memorized pieces just about perfectly and then they both made up their own pieces to play, which were not memorized.  I love love love how Dallin wrote his out!  He played it wonderfully.
Look at his music for his made up song--so cute!

 The two cute master pianists!
By the end of the long and crazy day, everyone had had enough, we had to get out of there fast...

I need to re-read this...a lot...

"You parents and you families whose lives must be reordered because of a
handicapped one, whose resources and time must be devoted to them, are
special heroes. You are manifesting the works of God with every thought,
with every gesture of tenderness and care you extend to the handicapped
loved one. Never mind the tears nor the hours of regret and discouragement; never mind the times when you feel you cannot stand another day of what is required. You are living the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ in exceptional purity. And you perfect yourselves in the process."

First week of summer

The first week of summer has come and gone and has left me completely exhausted.  I still need to put on pictures from award ceremonies and recitals, but I am afraid I am going to whine a little first...
This week was crazy.
We had 6 (yes that number is SIX) doctor/therapy appointments.  Almost all of them had all the kiddos in tow.  We had 2 play dates, only 1 trip to the pool and 1 very sick baby.  Devin has been very ill with a fever tapping out at 105.  The fever lasted for 4 days and finally yesterday afternoon it broke.  I took him into the doctor and he has (in her words) pussy blisters in his throat.  That being said, he won't drink.  He went a full 8 hours without peeing yesterday and we were worried about heading to the ER when he finally did.  We have had to resort to syringing liquid into his mouth.  I will wake him up at night and syringe water or liquid in his mouth  (he fights me a whole lot less at 11pm when he is so tired).  It has been miserable.  He is miserable and he cries A LOT!
David and I did get out last night and went to dinner, which was fabulous, but we had to take the sick baby and ended up in the party room of the restaurant by ourselves because he was so disruptive...

BUT, today I actually went down to Nordstrom Cafe Bistro in the Galleria and had lunch with a friend.  KID-LESS!!  It was awesome.  The food was amazing.  I really think food tastes better when your mind isn't distracted in a thousand directions.  I have not been away from everyone for soooo long, love you kids, but sometimes mommy has to step away.  So, to sum up--long tiring week, but I ended it with a fun few hours of girl time and I am doing much better--now to go clean my house... :)
