M&E: Engaged

I think most of you have seen these on Facebook but I thought I'd post here for those of you who avoid that medium. :) These are the engagement photos that Eric & I had taken in early October by a friend of Kimberly's. They were taken at the International Rose Garden in Washington Park in Portland and at Cathedral Park under the St. John's bridge in Portland. Beautiful day!

Walnut Grove Perry's

Here is the update from us!

Melia- She is absolutely LOVING school! I didn't think I would cry on the first day of school, but of course, I did on the walk there. We walk every day and now it has turned into her running all the way there with McKenzie. She goes from 8:20- 2:50 every day and has already made some great friends in her class. She has already had one incident of a 1st grader girl kind of making fun of her and she did not understand why they were being mean to her. It already has begun... But we talked to her and she now says it doesn't matter and that they can't hurt her. Melia is now into making videos where she sings songs and acts them out... making it up as she goes. I will have to post her "Bunny Tale" video soon.

Happy at her desk on the first day
Coming home with Dad. Both wanted a ride. :)

McKenzie- She has had quite an adjustment with having Melia gone, but is also enjoying being pretty much the only one and the big helper at home. She is enjoying preschool and LOVES her new friends there. She is going to be playing soccer in the Winter with her friend Jovie and Amy (who is my co teacher at the preschool) is going to be the coach. She says she is going to be great since she runs so fast. A couple of weeks ago, McKenzie had her 4 year old check up. She was 3 foot 7 inches tall and 42 lbs. She got all her kindergarten shots (definitely did not like that part!) and now she is ready for next year!

Having fun at the zoo with Uncle Brent, Noah and Avery
Cold on Labor Day... before it got sunny and hot!

Brie- She is 8 months old already and is crawling around and pulling up on things. She loves to walk along the couch and she REALLY likes the X-box which Treven is not happy about. We had our first ER trip for any of our kids with her a couple of weeks ago when she busted her eyelid open on the entertainment center. She ended up not needing any stitches because the cut was in the crease of her eyelid and by the time the doctor saw us, it had stopped bleeding. The doctor didn't want to cause any more pain so he said that it should close up on it's own. It did, very well too! She has been teething a lot, but no teeth have popped through yet. It is killer! She is now eating soft table food. We found that whenever she ate the baby food from the jars, she spits up... so we are cutting that out and going for all soft table food.

Teething sucks!!
The injury to cause the ER visit
 Under the table fun!

Treven- He is working really hard at work. He is going to the manager assessments at the beginning of October and hopefully that will cause something to happen with management. The District Manager told him 3 weeks ago that she is watching him for the next 6 weeks to see how he performs and that will determine the route she will take with his promotion. Pray for him, please! :)
As far as school goes,  he has been looking at BYU- Idaho's online programs. They now offer online degrees and he is thinking of switching to Health Administration as his Bachelor's. He really did not enjoy WSU Vancouver and needs to be able to love school and have the time to work a full time job as well which WSU Vancouver was not providing for him.
 Date lunch at Mio Sushi
Loves when we are able to take care of Chief. At the Farmer's Market.

Kim- Preschool is doing great! I am still at Tiny Peas Preschool. I flirted with the idea of opening my own preschool out of our home, but I prayed about it and had a firm confirmation to speak with Amy before breaking away. I did, and she was feeling exactly the same way I was and we changed our curriculum and the way that we do things at the preschool. It has been amazing. Our preschool is full and our new kids mesh so well with the kids that have been with us for a while. I am looking for work on MWF to be able to bring in some extra money for our family. I will see if I got the job I interviewed for at Willamette Dental some time today or tomorrow. I started Weight Watchers with Mom about 4 weeks ago and I have lost a total of 9.8 lbs! I am loving it and really am feeling great. This week I am going to start back up on running. I wanted to lose 10 lbs before I did. 10 lbs is a lot and having that gone will definitely help! My goal is to lose 40 more lbs. We will see :) The cruise and Marnie's wedding are great motivators.

Brie and I ready to go wedding dress shopping with Aunt Marnie!

We are so thankful for everything that we have in our lives: family so close, a great home, great school nearby for the kids, our ward, and A LOT more. Thank you for all your support and love, it always means more than you know.

Oh ya, at least one of our daughters thinks he is awesome!

ME Adventures

Ok, ok - I guess we'll jump on the bandwagon too with Adina's prompt. We do definitely need to be better about blogging but it's so hard when we are all so close and see each other so frequently!

This, our first, summer has been quite eventful for Eric & me. I'll split by months to give a bit of an overview.

June
  • Starlight 5K Run & Parade - Eric ran his first ever 5K with me for the annual Starlight 5K & parade through downtown Portland. Kim and her friend Amy ran with us as well and it was a lot of fun. After the run we got to sit and watch the parade with all the family that could make it out.
  • Oregon Coast Trip - We were originally planning to have the wedding at the Oregon Coast Aquarium so we took a trip to the coast to tour the aquarium and see what it had to offer. It was beautiful but we found something even better.
  • Epic Relay - The crazy weekend of running - Eric's first relay experience and one where he definitely got integrated into the family quickly. I'm amazing the events of the next weekend still happened after all that. :)
  • We're Engaged! - As we already posted all about, Eric took me to the coast and proposed in the perfect proposal on Gleneden beach. And so the planning commenced...

 July
  • Camping at Billy Chinook - an awesome few days with the family at Billy Chinook Reservior in the Oregon desert. VERY hot for us fair skinned gingers but we held out and doused ourselves in sunscreen about every 15 minutes. Our first camping trip and it was a success apart from the squirrel who decided to chew a hole through the side of our brand new fancy tent! Thank to REI for replacing that for us!
  • Camping at Beverly Beach - Eric & I followed up the 4th of July camping trip with a solo trip to Beverly Beach, OR where the weather is just a bit cooler. The camp there is right next to the beach so we were able to stroll down the beach at night (aw!) and enjoy the sounds of the waves at night. We also got to explore a lot of the Oregon coast that weekend from Florence all the way up to Cannon Beach.

August
  • Eric's Cousin's Wedding @ Skibowl on Mt. Hood - one of Eric's cousins got married in early August so we made our way up to Mt. Hood to see the event. I was taking notes the whole time but they did a great job. We even got to take a ski lift up to the ceremony at one of the warming huts!
  • Visit from Caitlin - My great friend, Caitlin, who is from Victoria B.C. but who I met when I was studying in Norway, came down for a weekend visit with us. She hadn't met Eric before (but had heard lots about him!) so it was nice to have her get to know him. We took her to Powell's, breakfast at Mother's Bistro, Multnommah Falls, made her watch Aliens - all in all a great visit.
  • Engagement BBQ - Our informal celebration of the engagement was also in July. We had some delicious food and got to hang out with everyone and most importantly, everyone got to meet Eric's mom. She had a great time and really liked everyone.
  • Marnie's Trip to San Diego - for the last weekend of August, Marnie took a trip down to San Diego solo for Michelle's 30th birthday celebration. I definitely missed Eric, but it was fun to have some good times with all my best friends. We stayed up way too late and talked a lot but we also got in two trips to karaoke, a trip to Sea World, Seaport Village, burritos, In-N-Out, Sprinkles Cupcakes, China Fun, and my first trip wedding dress shopping! It was a full weekend - no pun intended.

September
  • Big Al's - For Labor Day weekend, Eric wanted to play arcade games so we spontaneously decided to check out Big Al's in Tigard. We played video games, ate deli food and even did some bowling before the day was done. Avery fun unplanned date. :)
  • Columbia River Labor Day - On our day off, we met up with the rest of the family in the middle of the Columbia River on some sand bars. It was a pretty awesome place to be - right between Washington and Oregon. Good food and good company.
  • Ducks Football Game with Andrew - Eric got a really good deal on three tickets with awesome seats at the Oregon Duck's football game so we decided to take Andrew with us since we figured he was old enough to enjoy the game and understand what was going on. He was really fun and very well behaved during the entire drive and game. They had some fun games like throwing and kicking footballs before the game - I think those were his favorite parts.
  • Ira Glass in Concert - Next day I dragged Eric with me to see my nerdier side and listen to a lecture about the value of radio for telling stories by Ira Glass, host of This American Life. It was a very interesting and entertaining time for us and it was just as weird as I thought it would be to see his voice coming out of a real person instead of a radio.
  • Oktoberfest @ Mt. Angel, OR - Last weekend, Eric planned a mystery date for us. I literally did not have any idea where we were going until we were about a block away and I started seeing signs for Oktoberfest in Mt Angel. It was a really fun day of walking around different little stands, eating yummy bratwurst and German chocolate cake and enjoying the sunshine while it lasts. Very good planning, Mr. Eric.
  • Double-Date with DnA - Eric & I went to Kell's Irish Pub and Ground Kontrol Classic Arcade in downtown Portland for a fun double date. We also found the 24 hour Church of Elvis on our walk between locations. Only in Portland!
  • Wedding Dress Shopping - Just yesterday, I got to go wedding dress shopping again but this time with mom, Kim, Brooke, Jane and even little Brie. We had a great time going to a couple of different shops and even getting a yummy lunch together at the Cheesecake Factory in the middle of the day. I had one dress in mind that I have been drooling over for months that I was pretty sure would be "the one". It was the first one I tried on and - yep - it was "the one"! I tried on several others just to make sure but nothing came close to that first one so the order was placed and I get to try it on again in January! Eric isn't seeing the dress until the wedding day so I'm not gonna post anything here to make sure he doesn't see it. I'll show pictures to those that are interested individually instead.

Coming soon...
  • Engagement photos - We have our photoshoot for our engagement photos on October 6th and are actually meeting with the photographer this afternoon to go over what we want. We are doing two locations - one of which will be the Portland Rose Gardens - so we are hoping to have some really pretty fall colors to highlight our Ginger-ness :)
  • My birthday - We are tentatively planning a camping trip for my birthday weekend. We'll see where that ends up.
  • Halloween - We're having a horror movie marathon for October to get ready for Halloween and then we have the family party, of course. Still brainstorming what we are going to be...

Other than events - here's a brief update on us:

Eric
  • Work is a bit of a drag but he's working with it. Actively looking for something better for him but glad to have a solid job while he is doing that.
  • Very focused on being healthy and exercising regularly. He's taken to mixing things up since the relay and is incorporating a lot more strength training with his running.
  • Working hard to get everything ready for us to start our lives together - I'm so glad I chose him. :)

Marnie
  • Very busy at work - still leading up a lot of problem-solving for the company with our new brand and trying to get everything consistent in an environment where almost nothing is. This summer's main event was getting the remodeling started for all of our offices and solidifying the design and scope of that. It's been a challenge and very stressful at times but it is all fun work. I also wrote, produced and directed a short promotional video for our company, which both Dad and Eric are in. Once it is final, I'll share with everyone.
  • Trying to stay only about up to my knees in wedding planning. We've got the location reserved - Heceta Head Lighthouse on the Oregon Coast - and the dress has been found as of yesterday. I have a lot of other elements at concept level but I've done pretty well with getting the big stuff out of the way before the holidays, which was my goal. I think everything will really pick up in January and then especially after the cruise in March.

Ok - that's probably more than you wanted but you got it!
