Dear Vivvie #2

Dear Vivvie,

You are now two-months-old! Actually, you were two-months-old last Thursday...I'm just running behind on writing this letter to you. I can't believe you are two-months already! You are changing & growing by the day! We went to your two-month appointment last Friday. Here are your stats:

Length: 21 1/4" (25th percentile)
Weight: 9 lbs. 13 oz. (25th percentile)
Head Circumference: 37 cm. (25th percentile)

Also, when we were at the doctor's office, we learned that you apparently HATE shots! When your brothers were babies, I actually looked forward to immunization day. I know that sounds harsh, but the reason I looked forward to it was because they all handled the shots so well! They would cry for about five seconds, then be happy again, and then proceed to take a five hour nap! Immunization day meant a day where I could get a lot accomplished during that five hour nap. So, I expected the same with you. But, in true Vivvie fashion, you have to be the exact opposite of your brothers. You cried & cried and cried some more! I don't think you stopped crying for a full 30 minutes! I was having a hard time hearing the doctor over your extremely high-pitched screams. Then, I brought you home...expecting you to fall asleep and take that lovely five-hour-long nap. Nope, you decided to wake up screaming bloody murder every 5-10 minutes...ALL...DAY...LONG. I did everything I could think of to help & console you, but nothing worked. Needless to say, I didn't get ANYTHING done & I was quite frazzled by the time the day was over. Not cool girlie...not cool at all! I expect an apology & a huge hug from you someday to make up for it! :)

Even on non-immunization days, you are becoming a bit of a diva. You like to be held...a lot. There are times when you are content to sit in your bouncy seat or lay on a blanket while I get some work done, but it usually only lasts a few minutes & then you start feeling deprived of attention & let EVERYONE know about it. But as soon as someone picks you up & starts talking to you, you are content as can be. You have started to smile & coo (both super cute)...and you're willing to do both liberally to anyone who pays attention to you. I must say that you do it more for me than anyone else. Connor commented on this the other day. He said, "Mom! She always smiles at you. She likes you more than she likes us!" I answered him with, "Well, in this house, we girls have to stick together!" That response got a huge smile out of you! Guess that means you feel the same way!

I can't believe how much you have changed just since you were born! I think you get cuter & cuter each day! We have decided that we're pretty sure your eyes are blue...but we can't figure out what color your hair is. The hair that you were born with is definitely a strawberry blonde...almost reddish. So, you might be a redhead...a trait that came from my side of the family. I had a great aunt (Elsie) that was a redhead. I have always been super blonde my whole life (until I started having kids) and I remember Aunt Elsie telling me one time that because I was so super blonde, she thought I was a carrier for the red hair gene. I guess people who are really blonde, and stay that way until they are adults, are more likely to be carriers of the redhead gene, according to her. So, you may be a redhead. However, the new hair that is just beginning to grow in is looking blonde in some places & brunette in other places. So, in conclusion, we have NO idea what color your hair is going to be. Maybe a combo of all three? I don't know. Regardless, I've decided you're going to be a beautiful girl!

Your newborn clothes are finally starting to fit you snugly. It's amazing to me how clothes that used to drown you just a few months ago are now getting tight on you! Guess we'll be moving to the 3 month clothes pretty soon. And, by the way, I love your 3 month wardrobe...there are so many cute little sundresses! It makes me happy just looking at them! But, at the same time, I will miss your newborn clothes. They are so small & darling...and many of them you've only worn once or twice. I wish the weather would warm up so I could dress you in some of the summery ones before you grow out of them, but something in me says it's not right to dress your baby in a tank top & little shorts when it's 45 degrees outside, like it is today.

You haven't been spitting up as much lately, which is a nice development. You do still spit up from time to time, but it's not violent like it used to be. And, I'm enjoying not smelling like it 24/7.

I have to give you props in the sleeping department. You have been sleeping at least six hours straight each night for the past three weeks! I keep waiting for this trend to end, but it hasn't so far. I give all credit to "The Baby Whisperer". By the way, when you have your first child, I'm going to force you to read this book. I swear by it!!! It is, in my opinion, the end-all-be-all of baby books. In addition to sleeping through the night, you still sleep through the chaos, brought to you by your loving brothers. And, nothing puts you to sleep faster than the sound of the vacuum. If you're having a hard time going to sleep, all I have to do is pull out the vacuum and do a room or two. You're out like a light bulb after that!

Everybody in this family is crazy about you...each in their own way! You have Daddy wrapped right around your little finger, and I'm pretty sure you'll be able to talk him into anything you want in this life with those big eyes of yours. Connor is good to hold you or feed you for a few minutes...unless it's interfering with his "friend time". Aiden thinks the world of you...as long as you're not crying. If you cry though, he tries to get as far away from you as possible or yell, "I can't handle this baby crying!" And, Cohen thinks he needs to hold you at least 2,383 times a day. He doesn't hold you for long though...just long enough to say, "Hi Baby Bib!" and then give you back to the nearest adult. As for me, I am so absolutely in love with you it is sickening! I love having a daughter! It is everything I ever dreamed it would be! You are so stinkin' cute & fun! Love you like crazy!!! Until next month, --Mom

Hoppy Easter

I am waaaaaaaaaay behind on blogging again. I have lots to tell you...I went back to work a few weeks ago, Vivvie is now two-months-old (and I need to write her another letter) and Easter was yesterday. I decided to start with my Easter post because it seemed like it would be the easiest and quickest to write (which is what I need tonight)...

The Easter Bunny visited our house early Sunday morning. The boys did the same thing that they did on Christmas morning. They ran out on the bridge and scoped out all the goodies and prizes the Easter Bunny had left for them...

The Easter Bunny hid stuff everywhere! There was candy all over the family room...

And up and down the stairs...

In the front room too...

And the kitchen as well...

Talk about candy overload. We are going to be on a sugar high in this house for weeks...

In addition to the candy, the Easter Bunny brought some presents too...

Vivvie slept through the egg hunt. Sorry Viv! But, if it's any consolation, I picked up a few pieces of candy and ate them for you.

A little later, after everyone had overdosed on Cadbury Eggs & Sweet Tart Jelly Beans (which are extremely delicious by the way), everyone got dressed in their Easter best for church...

As you can see, Vivienne slept through this as well...but isn't her dress so cute? This was my first experience with an Easter dress! Yes, shirts & sweater vests are fun and all, but an Easter DRESS is even better! Viv's dress was actually given to me by my friend Jessica at one of my baby showers. When she gave it to me, she said, "I thought it would make a cute Easter dress." And she was right...

Oh how I love these kiddos! It's amazing how they can make me absolutely crazy at times & yet I still love them to pieces!

After church, my family came over for Easter dinner, made by chef extraordinaire Mike. Unfortunately, because of some strong thunderstorms, I had to stay at work & didn't make it home for dinner. But, I had the leftovers tonight & they were heavenly!

Overall, it was a pretty awesome day! I love Easter & I'm so thankful that we have this season to reminded us of our Savior's sacrifice & resurrection. I am eternally grateful to Him for it! --Lindsay

Vivienne's Baby Blessing & Pink Party

Vivvie was blessed in church this past Sunday. Quite a few members of both our families were able to attend & it was a wonderful day!

Mike gave Viv a beautiful blessing. In it, she was promised a lot of really great blessings...faith in Jesus Christ, charity, & cheerfulness to name a few...along with the blessing of being married in the temple & raising a family of her own someday. She was also promised that she would help her family by bringing peace into our home. That's a pretty tall order, considering she has three older brothers who think fighting & wrestling are great ways to show love to each other. Sigh...

Before the blessing, Kristin came over & took some pictures of Vivvie in her princess dress...uh, I mean blessing dress...

Do you think it may be a little on the extravagant side? Haha! Ever since I was a little girl, I have always dreamed of blessing my baby girl in a beautiful, long, cascading blessing dress. I found this one online & knew instantly it was the one...

Also, a few years back, I decided that if I ever had a girl, I would put a big pink flower in her hair for her blessing as well. And, when I found the feather, netting & gargantuous pearl to go along with the pink flower, I knew she had to have it. What can I say? I'm a sucker for all things girlie...

Apparently, sitting around in a dress that weighs almost as much as you do & wearing a huge headpiece is exhausting...

Sleeping beauty...

Oh, look who decided to finally wake up for a shot or two...

After the blessing, everyone came back to our house for Vivvie's "pink party". What is a pink party, you ask? Well, again you have to go back to a few years ago. As I kept having boy after boy after boy, I decided that if I ever had a little girl, I would have a pink party to celebrate. At this party, everything would be pink. Yes, I can see you all rolling your eyes right now. But, give me a break, I had eight years & three male children to plan this day. And plan, I did! Here's the food table...

Even the food was pink. We had ham & cream cheese wraps (the cream cheese was dyed pink), potato salad & pasta salad that were dyed pink (I don't know if I'd recommend doing this. It was kind of weird. Because it was pink, something in my head said it should taste sweet. When it didn't, it was very weird.), several pink jello salads, pink fruit with pink fruit dip, pink donuts, pink cupcakes & pink punch...

My mom made the cupcakes. Didn't they turn out beautiful?!? She made the cupcakes with strawberry kiwi soda pop instead of water to give them a little bit of a pink tint & then topped them with cream cheese frosting & pink pearls. So cute, and so delicious...

Each of the tables was decorated with pink centerpieces & pink M&Ms. This was no easy task for a girl who's entire house is decorated in red. A huge thank you to my mom who ran to Pier One at 8:30 on a Saturday night to help me out...

It was such a fun little party! Here are some pictures Kristin took of some of the people who were there. Me, Mike & my Aunt Kathy...

Maddie (my cousin's daughter), Ashlee (holding Viv), Greg & Garrett (my cousin's son)...

Ty (my cousin's husband), Dan & Ella...

Grandpa & Vivvie (now out of her blessing dress & into her "party dress") taking a little snooze together after eating...

A picture of almost everyone watching "Tangled" later in the day...

It was such a great day! A huge thank you to everyone in our families who came & made it so special! I am so grateful to have little Viv in our family! It's amazing how much she has completed our family! And I can't wait for her to start bringing some peace to this rowdy house she was born into! --Lindsay

Conference Weekend Fun

This past weekend was General Conference. I love, love, love General Conference Weekend! It's so great to be able to hear our church leaders speak, plus our family has tons of traditions that are based around this weekend. I look forward to it months in advance! In fact, when I first found out I was pregnant with Vivvie, I went straight to my calendar to figure out if I would be on maternity leave long enough to have Conference Weekend off. Funny, I know...but that's how much I love this weekend! When I work, I still get to enjoy a lot of the fun...but I was really excited that I would be able to enjoy ALL the fun this time around instead of running off to work. It was great! Here's what we do...

On Saturday, we usually stay home & watch/listen to both sessions with just our little family. But, once the afternoon session is over, the fun with the extended family begins. We always meet at my parents' house before the Priesthood Session so all the boys can go together. We ended up getting to my parents' house with about an hour and a half to spare before Priesthood Session started, so my dad turned on the old Batman movie (the one with Michael Keaton) because Cohen is obsessed with all things Batman lately. The boys got comfy & watched a little of it...

Poor Dan! Yes, Aiden decided it would be more comfortable to lay on Dan as opposed to the couch. Funny boy!

While the boys went to Priesthood Session, the gals (and the kiddos) went shopping at Hobby Lobby & Toys R Us. Hobby Lobby was great! It brought back so many memories of Lake Charles! Hobby Lobby was our only good craft store & I spent many hours (and dollars) there finding projects to do (and have my husband do for me). The kids, of course, acted like wild animals. Cohen even licked a mirror...that was probably the highlight of the trip! Oh, heaven help me!

After our shopping trip, we met the husbands at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants, Joe Vera's. I love this restaurant! The chips & salsa are always delicious & their Bandito is AMAZING...

After that, it was home to bed to get ready for the next day.

Sunday morning of Conference Weekend is my favorite! We always get together at my parents' house for a yummy breakfast! We have waffles with my Mom's homemade syrup...

The boys are always big fans, obviously...

And, who wouldn't be? Do you see how heavenly it is? Waffle, homemade syrup, strawberries, whipped cream & powdered sugar...

After breakfast, we always settle in for a day of conference sessions (it was even better this year because we all had a baby to snuggle with while we watched)...

The kids? Well, let's just say they're not too good at listening to General Conference quite yet. They just do things like--oh, I don't know--empty out Nana's toy basket & then use it for a chair...

And, build elaborate lego car-spaceship-rockets flown by bunnies, of course...

After both sessions are over, we always sit down to a dinner of my Dad's homemade stew. So delicious...and full of fat! I'm pretty sure everyone's cholesterol is about 25 points higher by the time dinner is over, but it's sooooooooo worth it!

So, that's what we do for Conference Weekend! It's always so much fun & I'm so happy I was able to enjoy every single minute of it this time around! --Lindsay

Chambre de Vivienne

Many of you have been asking to see pictures of Vivvie's room, so here they are (finally). I was waiting until I had pictures in the frames that are over her crib before I posted. I finally got them put in there a few days ago, so here you go. Sorry it took so long. Here's what it looks like when you first walk in the room...

I know I always said that if I ever had a girl, I would paint her room pink. But, after I picked out bedding that was mainly pink, I decided against it. I figured it may look end up looking like the Pepto Bismal room if I painted it pink, so I decided on green instead. I also decided I wanted some sort of wainscoting on the wall, so we went with the kind that look like picture frames. Mike, my miracle worker husband, did it by himself. He figured out the perfect size to make them & how far apart to space them so that they would all fit on the wall perfectly AND miss all the outlets too. AMAZING! I love being married to an engineer who has the perfect brain for projects like this. He even made shorter & longer frames under the windows that look super cute

Here's Viv's crib & her fun pink bedding. I wanted something fun & bright that didn't have something dumb on it, little cartoon characters or anything. This one ended up being perfect for what I was going for. Every one of my kids have slept in this crib. Each has had their own different bedding, but the crib has been consistant throughout. I love that! I don't know if I'll ever be able to get rid of this crib just because it holds so many good memories of each baby (and I'm one of those people that throws EVERYTHING away). Luckily, it turns into a full size bed, so when Viv is old enough for a big bed, we'll still be able to use it!

I did this little montage above her crib. I like how it turned out. I wanted a bunch of random, fun V's (especially since one of her many nicknames is V) & pictures of her. I also threw in a few flowers too...

The reason I threw in some flowers was because I was trying to tie in the flowers on this cute quilt...

My mom made it & I absolutely LOVE how it turned out! I hung it from a quilt rack that I already had & put her name above it. The coloring must be way off on my camera because the quilt looks red again, like it did when I took pictures of it a few months ago. It's actually bright pink & matches her bedding perfectly. My mom is awesome...

Here's the other side of her room. Again, the coloring looks kind of funny...probably because of the light coming through the window...

One of my good friends from work, Keira, made this quilt for Viv. It's so cute & soft...

And, here's her changing table...

My friend, Tammy, made this vinyl lettering to go over it. I love how it turned out & Viv loves to stare at it when I'm changing her...

So, there's her room. I'm really happy with how it turned out. It is such a happy, fun room. I can't walk in it without smiling. But, that may just be because I'm so happy to finally have some pink in this house! --Lindsay
