A Few Projects Around the House

We've done a few little projects around the house lately.  First up, finally installing a ceiling fan in our family room.  When we built the house, the builder wanted a ton of money to install a ceiling fan in the family room.  We decided that was something we could do on our own a lot cheaper, so we just had them run all the electrical for it.  So, instead of a fan, we've had this lovely little tiny light 20 feet up in the middle of the family room.  We haven't used it even once in the almost five years we've lived here...

So, a few weeks ago, we finally found a ceiling fan that we loved,  Mike borrowed the tallest ladder I have ever seen from a neighbor, and took that little light down...

And then started installing the fan...

I'm pleased to say that both Mike and the fan survived!  Mike did a great job...

It is exactly what I wanted and had pictured in my mind...

Here's how it looks from the bridge.  Way better than that itty bitty light that used to be there...

And, not only does it look better, but it circulates the air in our house so well.  We just leave it on low all day long, and it pushes all the warm air that rises up there back down to the main floor.  The downstairs feels warmer and the heater doesn't kick on as often, and the upstairs is a lot cooler than normal.  Everything just feels equal now, which is great!

The other project, which has been an ongoing project for awhile now, is our formal dining room.  It sat empty for the first three years we lived here while we worked on other projects that were more important to us.  Finally a couple years ago, I bought a dining room table and buffet.  Then, we put up crown molding, and I've just added a few things here and there.  The last thing it needed was some curtains.  My mom, being the awesome seamstress that she is, made them a few weeks ago.  It was the final touch I needed to call this room complete.  Here they are...

And, for those of you that haven't seen the room, here's what it looks like.  This vantage point is from the entry...

And from the front door...

And this is the vantage point from the kitchen entrance...

Is that enough vantage points for you?  That's the only way I could show you the entire room..

I love how it turned out!  I know most people don't use formal dining rooms anymore, but we actually use ours about once a month for big family dinners.  The kids sit at the kitchen table and the adults sit in here.  It's so nice to have!  It was one of the main reasons I picked our floor plan.  I really wanted to have enough room to have our families over for big family dinners.  I'm so glad to finally have it totally done.  --Lindsay

Wrestling Season

Aiden and Cohen just finished up their wrestling season a few weeks ago.  They did city league.  It was Cohen's first year wrestling, and maybe his last.  He didn't seem to be a huge fan of it.  Guess we'll see.  Aiden improved quite a bit as a wrestler this season.  Here are some pictures from the two wrestling meets held during the season.  First up, Aiden's first meet...

Aiden's coach giving him a pep talk after a tough loss.  I love our coach!  He is so awesome...

More pictures of Aiden wrestling...

A blurry picture of Aiden winning this match...

Here's some pictures of Cohen wrestling.  Cohen is waaaay too kindhearted to be a wrestler.  If he could see the kid he was wrestling was struggling, he would just let them go.  It was kind of funny to watch...

Here are some pictures of the 2nd Tournament of the season.  Aiden's matches...

Cohen's matches...

Aiden ended up coming in 3rd in his weight division and Cohen ended up coming in 5th.  It was a good season.  We'll see if they want to do it again next year or not.  --Lindsay

Day of Thanks

We had a great Thanksgiving this year!  My entire family met went to Nana and Poppy's house for the day.  In the morning, while everyone was waiting for dinner, the kids helped Poppy decorate the "kid's Christmas tree" in the basement...

We ate dinner at around 1:00 because I had to work later that afternoon and evening, so dinner was moved up a little earlier than usual.  Here's all 16 of us around the spread...

Here was the kids' table...

And the adults' table...

Everything was delicous...

And the company was even better!  Look at all those cute kidlets--all eight grandkids...

After dinner, I went into work.  The rest of the family went to see the new Disney movie "Big Hero 6" and then went back to Nana and Poppy's house to play games that night...

It was a great day!  I was sad I couldn't be there all day, but grateful that I got to spend a good chunk of the day with the family before having to go into work.  And, now I get to enjoy having the rest of the holidays off this year!  Sweet!!  Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!  --Lindsay
