For My Dad

(Since my vague descriptions of the size, shape and color of our mulberries were not accurate enough for The Engineer.)

I promise the palm of my hand isn't disproportionately large. That's just the best I could do with a one-handed manual focus picture. (And, yes, I realize it would have been oodles easier to switch it to auto focus.)

Sorry I can't take a picture to capture the exact taste, Dad!

In Spite of the Rain

Blossom number two (I promise this is the last peony picture):

A few months ago, I told my strawberry plants that I wanted to eat their delicious strawberries on my graduation day. It looks like I can speak strawberry talk because they are right on schedule.

Uebergluecklich.

I walked home from class yesterday and was greeted by this beautiful peony blossom by my front door. I planted these peonies over a year ago realizing full well that we may not live in Baltimore long enough to see them blossom (they can take a while to get established), so I was absolutely giddy to see two buds (two!) on one of the plants this year. And now that we'll be here for at least two more years (I'm starting a new program in the fall and Ben is adding on an MPH this year), we'll get to enjoy these beauties for a while. And if Ben matches for residency here (and I write my dissertation here) then it will be six (six!) beautiful summers of these. And they smell divine. And I need to learn how to enjoy their scent without getting light-headed.

These jumbo pots of superbells on my porch make me happy, too. Although sometimes I kind of want to eat them.

And the fact that I graduate two weeks from today makes me beyond uebergluecklich. Especially since my mom, sister, and adorable niece-lette are coming out for the dance party.

Special Day

I'll have to admit, I hadn't been too clear what all the talk was about, but I looked it up and totally get it now.

We are all Mothras in our own way--even those of us who don't have children. We can be Mothras to other people's children. And even if we aren't a Mothra, none of us would be here without Mothra.

HAPPY MOTHRA'S DAY!!
(to whom it may concern)

This pretty much sums up my last few months.

Awkward...probably more tricky than it should be...
