Garbage Day is on Monday at
our house. We are allotted one large bin to dispose of waste. We do not have
any mandatory recycling. Which means everything goes into the same BIG
container. When my daughters lived at
home they generated more trash in a few days than my husband and I do in a
month. Now that there is just the two of us, we're lucky if we put one bag out
in that can a week. I'm the only person or so my hubby says who knows how to
extricate the garbage from the kitchen can to put it outside in the bin. A good
excuse for him not to do it, right? In all fairness he does the bathroom and
office cans. Neither of which require the muscle that kitchen can does. But
then he does wheel that big monstrosity with everything in it to the curb. It
would be much easier to put that one green trash bag out there. Problem is that
can can sit there all day. Our garbage men are not on a schedule. They can pick
it up at the crack of dawn or not mosey by until 5 o'clock at night. I'm
reminded of the old days when we'd have 4 or 5 cans lining the driveway. And
those collectors would be there when the sun rose to empty them. Remember the old
metal trash cans? I bought one years ago to store my wrapping paper in. In it's
day it was convenient and just the right size. BUT now that I exclusively use
gift bags instead of wrapping paper it's getting in the way. So it's the first
thing I'm going to get rid of at a garage sale later this spring. Call it
recycling. There is vintage paper in there. One woman's trash is another's treasure.

EASTER and PASSOVER GREETINGS
(Remember my American Greetings Bunny from last year...
there is a long story associated with it
somewhere here in my archives
if you want to search for it and read it)
I'm cautiously optimistic, about the weather.
The snow has melted...
so I'm donning one of my Easter Bonnets,
silly as it may look.

MY PASSION IS TEA
I crave and
covet my tea like some crave and covet their coffee. I love African Autumn or Chai
Tea. And I enjoy going out to Biggby's or Starbucks to get it. But with a $5
price tag for the small size, it adds up fast. And truth be told, that is more
than I can afford for a sweet indulgence. So I've gotten more thrifty. I used
to make the chai from scratch. But TAZO has a formulation I can't quite
replicate. And I LOVE the taste. It has just the right blend and balance of
sweet versus peppery spice to make it scrumptious. So I buy a couple boxes when
they are on sale and put them away to sample when the mood strikes me. And I
buy a tin of the African Autumn sachets to do the same. But rather than put them in a mug, like my
regular hot tea, Constant Comment... I use the cups from the name brand coffee
businesses I used to frequent. So I save money on buying the pricey teas and
just have to wash out the paper cup to satisfy my cravings for being out and
about.

A CULTURAL POTPOURRI
Went to an International
Expo held at The Auxiliary
Center here in town. It
featured activities that showcased food, dance, artwork, handcrafted items,
music and clothing from a variety of different cultures. This allowed us to see
the diversity in our neighborhoods locally and let us touch base with our
global friends. Some of the countries represented there were Egypt ,
Costa Rica , India , Japan ,
Mexico , Scotland , Tunisia ,
Indonesia, America and Guatemala. We enjoyed all the delicious food and fascinating cultures, closer to home than we realized.
