ART OF DISGUISE & HAPPY HALLOWEEN... TRICK OR TREAT

In years past... I have donned elaborate Halloween costumes and decorated the house from head to toe, inside and out. This year is more low key than usual. In part because... last year I missed Christmas. I was in the hospital. So... early as it is, I have that holiday more on my mind than ghosts or goblins. But... with that being said, Halloween is still my favorite holiday. So I have an animated Frankenstein, Pumpkin Head and Zombie visiting to help me celebrate. Not to mention a few skeletons to rattle my cage. The only thing missing is what I should wear??? So... I decided to do something simple this year. I'm just going to wear a mask. But there are so many to chose from... I had a difficult choice. Here are some of the selections I toyed with. And... the one I ultimately chose to buy, is at the very end.

ENLIGHTENING

I am fascinated by light fixtures. I LOVE looking at them when we're out and about. It is amazing what businesses use for lighting. Some use track lighting or pendant lights, to name a few. Designs tend to be contemporary, traditional or western... although stained glass is pretty popular. I like a modern look with an old fashioned flair. What kind of light fixtures do you like???

QUACK! QUACK! A MARKETING DYNASTY

Everywhere I go...

I am inundated with Duck Dynasty paraphernalia.
It seems these guys have their name
on virtually everything made.

Tee-shirts, hats and books... I understand.

But they also have their name on watches,

clocks, sunglasses, jewelry and greeting cards.

Not to mention...

a gnome or two for your garden.

Dolls for your kids.

But it doesn't stop there.

These dudes are raking in the big bucks
by branding carpet, pillows, lunch pails,
notebooks, band aids, and duck tape too,
among a zillion other things.

Halloween costumes no doubt, as well.

And they are laughing

all the way to the bank doing it.

Who is buying this stuff?

Don't you think these fellas

are a little overexposed,

no matter how much you like them?

Do you really need to see their logo

emblazoned on a pair of

woman's underwear?

SERIOUSLY????

I'm all for making a dollar...

BUT these folks are SHAMELESS.

KIDS WILL BE KIDS, WON'T THEY?

I briefly had a pet turtle as a young girl. It wandered into our backyard one day and I decided to put it in a box and keep it. The turtle was too big for the box, but I didn't care. What did I know? I was a kid. My parents were nice about me having this kind of pet... but knew the turtle wouldn't survive long... living that way. So, after a couple days... they let it back into the wild. Of course they didn't tell me they did that. I just assumed the creature escaped on his own. I searched high and low for it... but it had completely vanished. It made me very sad. I liked the turtle. However... within a few days, I was easily distracted with a little toad I had found. So... life moved forward. Recently, I visited with my grandchildren and when I told them the story of my pet turtle, they sat one of their play ones on my shoulder to keep me company. Kids do the darndest things, don't they???

DISAPPOINTMENT ON BIRTHDAY

For my husband's birthday last month we wanted to go all out and experience a touch of New Orleans, close to home. We heard of a place in Royal Oaks, Michigan called Tom's Oyster Bar that made an awesome Po' Boy Sandwich. So we decided to go and try it out. The place was packed, when we arrived and we thought that was a good sign. Entrees here were in the $25-$30 range. A little rich for us. Their sandwiches were more in keeping with our budget. So we ordered a couple Oyster Po' Boys. Waiting for them... we entertained ourselves with people watching... while we nursed a couple autumn lagers. We do not normally drink when we go out... but this was a special occasion, so we made an exception. It seemed to take forever for the sandwiches to arrive. And when they did, I must say we were sadly disappointed. Our evening ruined. There was very little meat to the oysters. And what we got a mouthful of instead, was all breading. OVERPRICED, for sure. Hardly the New Orleans dinner experience we were expecting. And definitely not awesome as promised. So I guess it was live and learn. Have you ever gotten a bad meal????

MUGS THAT WERE A STEAL

I was out and about and found these wonderful pumpkin mugs to use for my autumn chai lattes and hot apple cider. The best part of the deal. I only paid $1.98 a piece for them. They had apple ones too. You have to love a bargain that good, don't you? Have you found anything at bargain basement prices that made you smile?
