Hi Team Flying V and the one or two other people that follow us :). I decided to start my own blog about my journey to run 26.2 miles and share workouts, recipes, and fun along the way. Clearly I'm no expert on anything running or nutrition but I thought a place to record my journey might be fun and if others enjoy it along the way all the better! Come visit!
http://marathonlar.blogspot.com/
If any of my Team Flying V members want to guest blog let me know and if I ever post any pictures or information about you that you don't want posted just shout and I'll remove it. My plan is to stick to running and cooking stories and leave the personal stuff for face to face conversations with friends :)
XOXO,
Lar

26.2 Miles in Chicago + some workout ideas
Well we did it -- "we" meaning Lar, Kath, and Stace. We signed up for the 2011 Chicago Marathon on October 9, 2011. Let the countdown begin, 7 months, 29 days...YIKES! Of course we would love for EY and Rach to join us (hint hint)!
I watched this video and got a teeny bit motivated...check it out:
2010 Chicago Marathon Highlights
Although I really hope I won't be so hot I'll be running in shorts and a sports bra like many of the runners last year!
In other news I ran across this runner's blog today that I thought was pretty interesting and informative. Although she is way crazier than any of us, she has some good ideas for interval workouts, good recipes, and motivation:
www.runnerskitchen.com
Speaking of interval runs, I completed a great one with some running pals (one who actually trains runners for a living!) last night on the Greenlake track. It was FREEZING but luckily running an 8:00/mile pace warms you up quick.
1. 1 mile warmup
2. 1200m interval (3 laps) - 1 minute break (break as in do nothing, walk in a circle, but don't run)
3. 800m interval (2 laps) - 1 minute break
4. 400m interval (1 lap) - 1 minute break
5. Repeat steps 2-4, backwards, so 400, 800, 1200m.
6. 1 mile cooldown
Isiah (the running coach) also informed me that serious trainers should add a tempo run to their workouts. While I've read about them before I didn't actually know what is was...here you go:
1 mile warmup
20 minutes running at a fast pace (he suggested 8:10 for me, that sounds brutal!)
1 mile cooldown
Okay, that is all for now ladies! I feel like I'm dominating this blog...someone else post something!
xoxo,
Lar

6 miles and a Marathon
Hi Ladies!
This weekend we re-convene as Team Flying V for a oldie but a goodie 6 miler around Lake Union! As we fly around the lake we can reminisce about the day when we were pretty sure we were going to die just trying to complete the loop.
The plan for now is to meet at Gasworks Park at 10AM (time may be changed).
In other news, registration for the Chicago Marathon opens on February 1, right around the corner. Rumor has it that is sells out in 2 weeks so better open that line of credit soon for the $145 registration fee! I know I'm going to start saving now for this trip because evidently Chicago is one expensive city! More info here:

See you all on Saturday, I'll bring the Muscle Milk for recovery.

And We're Back!
Although so much time has passed and we haven't posted a thing, many of us have still been busy running. Here is a list of what Team Flying V has been up to over the past year:
1. Team Flying V (plus Kath's mom) all ran the Seattle Rock and Roll 1/2 marathon including inspirational Lindsey who ran the marathon and ROCKED it! You can read more on her blog post about it.

2. Rach, Lar, and Kath all ran the Covey Run 10K for Children's hospital and successfully completed it in under 1 hour with only one near death experience (Kath tripping on her shoe string).
3. Lar, Kath and EY traveled to Monterey to run the Big Sur 1/2 marathon with Kiko and Matt and had some fun California adventures along the way. More on that on EY's blog as well. I recommend watching the YouTube videos!

Of course many other life things happened along the way...Stacey got married (Hi Mrs. Ellingson), EY got engaged (Officer EY's fiance is a lucky man!), Kath bought a condo, Rach turned 30, and Lar...well I can't think of anything...help??

Team Flying V cleans up nice!
So we are back in 2011 with some lofty plans to run the Chicago Marathon in October and we are bringing the blog back to motivate, post runs, and make fun of each other.
XOXO,
Marathon Lar
