Surprise Adventure

Image
Saturday we wanted to head out to a new place for a hike, but weren't sure where.  Brian saw online that the Fish and Wildlife headquarters seemed to have some nice trails over in Frankfort so we grabbed the address and headed out.  Well, come to find out - they DO have some nice trails, and a whole lot more...plus when we showed up we realized that it just happened to be national hunting and fishing day so the place was packed with lots of extra people and things to do.  So, our little hike turned into so much more and we had a blast!  We really aren't hunters or fishers, but hey, when in Rome...   We checked out the nature museum, then headed outside where we found a bald eagle and a ton of other animals - I'm talking fish, elk, buffalo, wildcats and more!  They even had a bear.  A bear!!  I have been to a zillion zoos, but I have yet to see a bear.  He was awesome!  I might have found my new favorite ...

Sunroom Camping

Last weekend, we turned the sunroom into a tent and camped out.   Smores were involved.  Oddly enough I slept great!  Go figure!  My cute sleepy heads.

Pumpkin Bush

Behold pumpkin bush:   Brian, the master gardener, planted a zillion cute little pumpkin plants around our bushes.  Little did he know he was onto the latest trend (joking!).  You know you love it.  He's such a forward thinker :)  He wasn't trying to grow just any pumpkins - he wanted blue and white "Kentucky color" pumpkins that he saw in Southern Living last year.   We are hoping this one will go blue.  I love this hanging pumpkin in the middle! I used to fight with Brian about yard issues.  Now I just smile and laugh everytime a friend asks "Oh my! What is that?", or when I look out my window and see pumpkin bush.  Afterall, that is what I love most about Brian - he's the right mix of fun and crazy.

Labor Day Weekend

Image
This weekend we used some of our 'kids get in free' coupons from the library reading program and took a day trip to Louisville.  We had a great time at the zoo.  The zoo splash park was a big hit!   Then we headed downtown and checked out the science museum.  Not sure how science-y it was, but they sure had fun playing. We finished the day by going to the Old Spaghetti Factory for a nice dinner.  Love that place!  It was  a great weekend.  We even met up with friends for apple picking on Monday and checked out a local restaurant, Windy Corner Cafe, for some amazing Po Boy Sandwiches.  Super Yum!  Summer is now officially over and fall can begin.
