Emma: 2 Months

This has to be the cutest smile I've ever seen!

At two months, Emma eats like a champ every 3 hours and has slept 9+ hours every night but one for the past week.  She is starting to smile a lot--especially at her daddy!
I am always surprised when I go to her crib and get her for a feeding--she is often already awake and looking around quietly.
Emma loves looking at all the animals on her swing.
Emma Victoria, we love you!

Isaac: 2 1/2 Years Old

Wow!  I can't believe Isaac is two and a half years old!  I know, I know...I start every single rocking chair post like that, but it really amazes me how quickly life with these little ones is flying by!
At 2 1/2, Isaac loves to...
  • SING!  Some of his favorite songs are "Jesus Loves Me," The ABC Song, "Holy, Holy, Holy" (I especially love how he sings the last few words in the chorus as "Blessed Twin-i-tee"), "Pop Goes the Weasel," and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star"
  • READ!  Isaac has always loved reading books with us before nap time and bedtime each day, but lately we've also started having Isaac do "reading time" right before David comes home each evening.  He sits in his big chair in the family room and pages through his books very intently.  It's so fun to watch!
  • COUNT!  Isaac can usually get to somewhere around 11 or 12, though he almost always skips 5.  ;)
  • PRACTICE LETTERS  Once Isaac learned the ABC song, he started noticing letters everywhere.  For example, he'll pick up a cereal box and touch the words on it while saying the names of random letters.  He's also watched the Letter Factory DVD a few times which focuses on the sounds each letter makes.  He loves to walk through the house and chant "A says 'ah,' A says 'ah,' every letter makes a sound A says 'ah'."  At this point, any of the letters say "ah!"  :)
  • PRACTICE COLORS  Isaac says the colors of many things, and he always associates them with an object.  He'll say, "My shirt is blue--blue like the sky!"  The other day, he said blue was like the sky & green was like the grass.  David asked him what pink was like.  Isaac paused, and then he said, "Pink like Baby Emma's stuff!"  :)
  • BLUE'S CLUES A friend borrowed us a "Blue's Clues" DVD, and it is now Isaac's favorite show. In each episode, Blue (the puppy) and his owner try to figure out a set of clues, which the owner sketches in the "handy-dandy notebook." A few weeks ago, Isaac asked me for a "handy notebook." He sat and watched an episode of "Blue's Clues" with his notebook in one hand, a crayon in the other (to sketch the clues, of course), and his snack tucked between his legs.
  • BIBLE CLASS--We go to Bible Study Fellowship, which Isaac calls Bible class, each Wednesday morning. Isaac loves his teachers, Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Thomas, and talks about them throughout the week.  Nearly every day, Isaac asks, "Go Bible Class today, Mommy?"  I am so thankful for the wonderful experiences and teaching Isaac is receiving from his sweet Bible Study Fellowship teachers!
  • "A BOY NAMED ISAAC"--David started telling Isaac a story each night about "a boy named Isaac."  Dave is a great story-teller--I even have fun hearing the adventure Dave makes up in each story!  Isaac says, "a boy named Isaac story, please" all the time now, and he'll usually specify what he wants Isaac to do in each story.  One night, he told David, "a boy named Isaac story, please..in a plane, on a crane, in a truck, and on a horsey."  A few days ago I said, "You are such a big boy" to Isaac.  He said, "No, I a little boy named Isaac."
  • DADDY!  "I want Daddy" is the first thing Isaac says each morning!  Isaac loves the weekends when he gets to spend two days with Daddy (I do, too!).  No matter what Dave is doing, Isaac is right next to him doing the exact same thing--or at least as close as possible.  :)

Isaac said, "This is my mow-mow, and that is Daddy's mow-mow."  Two other words I don't want to forget Isaac saying at this stage are "cat-a-poo" (caterpillar) and "hel-i-doe" (helicopter).
Time, slow down!  I just love this sweet, energetic 2 1/2 year old!

Our Easter~2012

Wow!  We've had quite a few fun--and meaningful--days of Easter celebrations!
I am so excited to share some of our pictures!

Easter Egg Hunt
We went to a fun Easter party with some friends on Thursday morning.  Isaac was so excited about it & loved telling everyone that he was going to an Easter party.
Apparently Isaac's cupcake was too good to stop for a picture  ;)
This picture makes me laugh!  My friend told all the younger kids to stay near the house and hunt for eggs, and then she told the older kids to run to the back of their property to look for eggs.
Isaac ran so fast--he was determined to keep up with the big kids!

Here's a quick picture my friend took of us at the party--don't you love all the chocolate on Isaac's face!?!

  Resurrection Rolls
I saw this idea on the blog Balancing Beauty & Bedlam last year and knew it'd be a great way to teach Isaac about the empty tomb.  Isaac and I had a few minutes together to do this on Friday evening while Emma was napping and David was serving at church.
We dipped marshmallows in melted butter, cinnamon, & sugar and then rolled them up in crescent rolls.  I talked about how Jesus' friends carefully wrapped His body before putting it in the tomb.  Then, we put our pan of rolls into the oven and "sealed" it shut by closing the door, just like the tomb was sealed with a huge stone.
After the rolls were finished baking, I opened up one of them and asked Isaac what was in it.  He didn't really look and said "a marshmallow."  I told him to look carefully again--and then he just stared and stared at it.  (I wish you could see how confused his face looked!)  I told him that the marshmallow was gone & the roll was empty just like the tomb was empty on Easter morning!  Isaac must not have quite believed me, because he said "check another one."  :)  Oh, he makes me laugh!

Easter Eggs and Easter Bunny
We all dyed Easter eggs together on Saturday morning.  Later that afternoon, we went to our neighborhood's Easter Egg-stravaganza.  We missed the egg hunt because Isaac was still napping, but we got a few pictures of Isaac and Emma with the Easter bunny.

Isaac only sat this close to the Easter Bunny after she took her huge bunny head off and just put these bunny ears on!  ;)
We had read the story of Easter several times after supper over the past week.  On Saturday night, we found that Isaac had paged through his Bible until he found the story of Jesus dying on the cross.
(I ran to grab my camera once I saw what he was doing!)
Whenever he sees these pages in his Bible, Isaac points to Jesus on the cross and says "that man is really, really sad."  Then, he says, "Jesus is not dead--Jesus is alive!"  And, if you know Isaac, you know that he says "Jesus is alive" at the top of his lungs!  It is priceless!!

Easter Sunday!
It was so wonderful for our family to have so much time together this weekend.  We loved watching Isaac open his Easter basket on Sunday morning.  I added a few things that I'd meant to put in Isaac's Christmas stocking, plus my parents gave Isaac a new book and Dave's parents sent Isaac and Emma Easter bunnies.

I am so thankful for the new life God has blessed our family with this year, just as I am so thankful for the new life that we can have through Jesus' death on the cross.
One of the songs that we sang at Keystone on Sunday morning had the lyrics "You're making all things new"--God, thank You for making me new, not only through salvation, but also through the new joy and new strength You give me.

John 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly."
And, I am so thankful for these precious little lives!

After church, we went to my parent's house.  It was a little too wet outside for Isaac and Amanda's Easter Egg hunt, so my dad hid all the Easter eggs throughout the house.  :)

We spent the rest of our Easter Sunday...playing Rook, eating lots of delicious food,
doing dishes...  ;)
snuggling with Granna...
sharing Easter treats with Papa...
and smiling with Daddy!

We hope that you had a wonderful Easter too celebrating that Jesus is not dead--Jesus is alive!

And, I can't miss this chance to share this amazing message on How People Change from Keystone this Easter Weekend!  It is truly life-changing!
