Pictures from April!
The kids were so excited to pick out flowers to plant. I have the farthest thing from a green thumb, but we have managed to keep these alive nearly two months later!
We had such a fun weekend camping with my parents at Fort Richardson in Jacksboro. Emma would be very happy to sit in this bunk for hours and peek out the window.
Emma and Josiah started out like this at the beginning of the night; by morning, they had swapped places and Josiah was upside-down.
We toured the field hospital that was built after the Civil War and saw many interesting artifacts. Isaac especially loved all the reptiles preserved in jars. The park ranger taught the kids to immediately find him in the field hospital if they saw any snakes. And, Isaac got to do just that!
This is how Isaac describes it:
We rode our bikes and then parked them. Then, we walked behind the bakery. We stepped over the diamondback rattlesnake. I didn't see it, Pop didn't see it, Mom-o saw it and SCREAMED! I said, "What! What is it?!" Then Mom-o said, "There's a snake right there!" Then, I ran to the hospital and got someone who worked there and some other people walked over with me to where the diamondback rattlesnake was. Then, the snake slithered away into the grass. And, you can tell how old it is because it had 6 rattles. Every year, when it sheds its skin there's a bump of scaly skin which becomes part of the rattle. Rattlesnakes rattle when they're afraid or in danger, but this one didn't rattle because it was too cold.
Needless to say, we have all been talking about the diamondback rattlesnake ever since!
| Cutie pie in Pop's hat! He is growing up! |
We took a long hike and found a field of bamboo.
Emma loves matching, so you can imagine how excited she was about "matching" with Mom-o! I love both of these pictures so much!
Because of all the rain, we came back a night early. But, we continued our weekend by attending church all together the next morning and then going to Mac's for lunch.
Isaac and his friend had fun building bridges at CC.
We had appointments near my dad's office and were able to meet him for lunch. I love how he had a kiddo on each side of him. At this point in April, we had some really big decisions ahead of us. I sat across from my dad and cried and talked for nearly an hour, and my dad gave me such encouraging advice. I left so thankful--again--for my dad. This is one of my favorite memories of April.
Isaac saw a coon skin cap like this for sale at Fort Richardson and was so excited to buy one. He has worn it nearly everywhere, and it also doubled as his Easter egg basket.
It was fun to reconnect with Dave's friend, KJ, from Taylor! We enjoyed catching up as he was on a big road trip to move his family to Arizona!
Two helpers! Josiah always wants to do what the big kids are doing!
These kids were so excited to help Dave work on the turret in the backyard.
Josiah was proud to finally have a chair with his name on it! When we assembled it, he kept touching the letters and saying, "That's my name!"
Emma confiscated my new purse and filled it with all sorts of treasures. She carried it around everywhere! The picture of Josiah walking on the wall while holding Emma's hand shows how Emma is always wanting to help Josiah! She's such a little mommy.
Easter morning!
The kids found Easter eggs and lizards during their egg hunt!
We wrapped up our first year of CC! Isaac's tutor was fantastic! I learned so much from her. Our CC group went to hear the Dallas Symphony at the Meyerson! Amazingly, we were seated in the choral loft! It was wonderful!
loving the beautiful weather and playing at the park!
My sister sent us a butterfly kit! The kids were so interested in watching them create their chrysalises and then emerge!
Dave and Isaac had an awesome time at a Father/Son Retreat at Pine Cove! They were both bursting with stories when they came home on Sunday afternoon. Isaac's favorite part was the Buffalo Hunt, which is the picture of them covered in so much mud! While they were gone, Emma had a bad bike accident. The worst part was when she said, "I wish you had caught me." :( Her face healed quickly, though. While the boys were gone, Emma was excited to paint her toes with me and sleep in my room both nights.
This smile says it all! I'm so glad Dave and Isaac were able to have such a great time at camp!
