first day of K

Slugger completed his first week of K! He LOVES school! It is hard to believe that 6 years ago this fall, I was on bedrest for 9 weeks trying to ensure he make it here healthy. Slugger is a great kid. He is athletic, caring, creative, intelligent, strong-willed and determined. I can't wait to see what God has in store for G-man!

Simplicity

Things I've learned about living a more simple life...

(from book our Sunday School studied this summer, Freedom from Busyness: Biblical Help for Overloaded People by Micheal Zigarelli

1. Be in the moment. Give the person you are with at any given moment your undivided attention. "Slow down, you can't love people in a hurry." (pg 42)

2. Stop trying to be perfect. Work on adopting GEMO (Good Enough, Move On)
"Scriptures indicate that your value has nothing to do with your accomplishements, your perfection, or what others think of you." (pg 32)
God's love is unconditional. You don't have to do anything to earn it.

3. It is OK to say no. Setting boundaries is essential.

4. Limit TV, Internet (facebook and blogging for me) and spend that time in a more meaningful way. I can get sucked into the tube and Internet after the kids are in bed before I know it, the night is gone!

5. Rest and relax. Why do I always feel guilty when I relax?

6. Much like I've learned how to spend our money before hand from Dave Ramsey; map out how you want to spend your time before hand. Set non-negotiables for your time. for example: exercise, family time, time with God, meal times, rest times, chore times...

These are the highlights of the book study. Now comes the tough part for me... implementation!

Short and Sweet

I'll make this short and sweet, like my hair cut. :) Sorry to be so vain. Goodness, I have been humbled over the last week with how silly it is to fret over such things as hair. I am reading a book on Simplicity for Sunday School, very interesting lessons!! More on that in the next post. Cary was gone for a tennis tourney this weekend so I am EXHAUSTED and headed to bed before a new week begins.

hair dilemmas

Here are some pics of old hairstyles. Which I had to blow dry straight and/or use the chi every day. Below is what I have now. Opinions, please! I need hair help! Read below.

My hair is driving me crazy!!! I started seeing a new lady that is close to my house that can cut and color and works on Mondays (which is when I have childcare once a month at church). She really encouraged me to start using my natural curl and go a shade lighter to color my grays. I have never been able to use my curl, which is more of a wave and not consistently the same amount of wave/curl all over. She thinks I should continue to grow it out so we can see the natural wave. Well, it has been about 12 weeks and I still can't make it work. Last time I went to her I swear she didn't even cut it and said, it really needs to grow out more to get the true feel of the wave going. Am I a sucker or is this for real?! It feels like a bushy mop. So, I had an appointment today with the girl I used to see. I liked her but she was a bit crazy and the cut took me forever to fix every morning. I was ready to chop it all off and she went home sick from work!!! AAAAGGGGHHH! My question is... will I ever be satisfied with my hair/looks?! I can't believe I am this old and don't know what to do with my hair. When it is short, I want it long, long, short...when it is straight I want it curly, curly, straight, etc. Wish I could just go to Sports Clips with the boys and get a buzz cut! I know that I should be happy I have hair to fret over and that I have options, curly or straight. It's the little things in life, isn't it?! ps for ms dendy... I know my posture looks horrid with that side shot, gotta get back to my neck exercises and get massages back in the budget! yikes!

4th of July

We had a great 4th of July weekend! My family came to us as Cary had to work. We spent Friday night watching the fireworks at Bentwater. Saturday morning we watched the Bentwater parade then spent the afternoon at the pool. Sunday we had our neighborhood parade. I think our parade will become an annual tradition! The kids decorated their bikes and rode around the neighborhood. Then we had a good ol' street party with pizza, watermelon, snowcones and tons of sweets! It was a great way to end a wonderful weekend!

summer time

Summer is here for the Ringers! PK ended last week, was it just last week?! What will we do all summer?! Yesterday we went to the zoo, we were home by 2. I was exhausted and the kids went full speed until baths at 7:30. Ayyyiii! I feel so old! I am working on a schedule for summer. I work better with a plan of attack!! Slugger is playing t-ball, tennis and swimming lessons. Curls is still a bit too young for any formal classes. So she has lots of play time with Mommy and her friends on the street. Curls talks nonstop from the moment she wakes up til she hits the hay. I am thankful for her verbal abilities but sometimes it drives me insane! There is never a moment of silence around here. Naptime is becoming harder and harder, oh no!!! Is she about to give that up? Please, say it ain't so!!

March/April

Here is a summary of the past few weeks. The pics are out of order, I'm too tired to move them around. :) We celebrated Curls' 2nd birthday with a Dora party at our neighborhood park with our family and friends, it was freezing but dry! Easter egg hunts at school, church, neighborhood and home. Visit with Mama Mary the day before Easter. Last but not least, K registration!
