Yummy tummy yummies!

Two days ago we gave Emily her first baby cereal. She wasn't sure about the first couple bites and then after a few bites she wanted to get her face in the bowl. Now I can't get the spoon in her mouth fast enough. For the longest time of only getting up once a night to eat, she is now getting up twice a night so I am trying to give her cereal at bedtime in the hopes that she will sleep longer again and not get up so much. Tonight while we were checking out at the grocery store, Daniel was kind of growling at Emily and making her laugh. I had never heard her laugh before. Daniel is the only one able to make her laugh so far. She loves her big brother and watches him whenever he is close by. She saves some of her biggest smiles for him too. Daniel is crazy about his little sister. He loves to give her hugs and kisses, play with her, and he calls her Beautiful girl. It is so sweet. It makes me so happy that my kids love each other so much. We are so blessed to have two such wonderful, happy children.

President Hinckley

Last night when I heard that President Hinckley had died, I was happy for him. He is the prophet that I most remember because I was only 11 years old when he became prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has done such an amazing work here on earth to further the spreading of the gospel and with all of the temples that were built to make the blessings of the Temple more accessible to the members of the church. He is now with his wife and I am sure that they are working as hard as they can to teach those on the other side of the veil. He never slowed down while he was here and there is no reason for him to slow down now. I know that he was a prophet of God and that the things he taught were the things that we need to know. It is good to know that just because President Hinckley is no longer here that the keys of the priesthood that he held didn't leave the earth with him. Whoever our next prophet is will hold those keys and he will be called of God just like all the other prophets before him. I am grateful for the Gospel and for the joy and knowledge that it brings me. Without it the world would be a dark and frightening place. I love the Lord and Jesus Christ, the President Hinckley, and that I have the gospel. I am so grateful for my eternal family and the knowledge that I have that they will be my family forever as long as we are faithful.

The pants are on!!

For the past I don't kmow how long, Daniel has refused to wear pants while we are at home. When we get home from somewhere the very first thing he would do upon walking through the door is take off his pants. Because of the dry cold his legs were getting very dry and chapped so we started bribing Daniel to keep his pants on. If he kept his pants on all day every day he could earn a car or engine. He has successfully kept his pants on for a whole week! I think I have to find a bunch of fleece and make him a bunch of pants. He seems to really like the fleece.

Busy, busy, busy

The next copule of weeks are going to be really busy as we try to get everything ready to move by Feb. 10th. We are getting the house ready to get on the market (I'm so sad about it) and are getting little projects done before they get lost in the whirlwind of moving. We thought that we were finally settled for at least a few years but it's not to be. I have a hope that eventually we will be settled somewhere for good and that I will finally be able to unpack ALL of our stuff.

Grown-up life

Sometimes as I'm going about my daily life, it surprises me that I'm not just playing house. I'm the wife and mommy and I don't have to ask if I can do something or drink the milk. I can even drink the milk out of the carton and nobody's going to yell at me. After about six months of being out of college and living in the "real world", I sometimes think it would be nice to be back in school where I know most of what's going to happen. It's always a guarantee that money will be tight, Mike will have school everyday, and everyone around me is usually within 10 years of my age and in the same situation as we are. Things are much different now. I am probably the youngest mom in the ward. I was visiting teaching yesterday and the lady we were visiting asked me if I look back and think I was way too young when I got married. Right now, I can't really do that. I know I have grown up since I got married but I still feel really young. But at the same time, it seems like I have been married forever. There are definently things I would change but I wouldn't trade my life for anything. I have my husband and my two wonderful kids for all eternity and I will forever be grateful for that.

Daniel and his Cars

Ever since Daniel got a bunch of cars from the movie Cars, he has been obsessed with them. He is Lightning McQueen, I am Mr. the King, Mike is Chick Hicks, and Emily is one of the race cars called Nitroade. The other day he had some friends coming over and he lined up all his cars and said that they were ready for school.

Emily's learned something new!

Two days ago emily rolled over from her tummy to her back! She is already 3 1/2 months old and now that she can roll over, she's more willing to play on her tummy.

Daddy's kids

Daniel and Emily both love their daddy and want to spend as much time with him as they can. Everytime I hold Emily on the couch she's looking towards where Mike sits and is always anxious to get back to him. She'll even skimp on meals if it means getting back to daddy sooner. I gave Mike a picture frame with a picture of the kids in it for Christmas and the frame says "Daddy, a sons first hero, a daughters first love." It's so true. I love my little family.

Finally settled in Texas

We have been in Midland (for good) for a month now and we are loving the house that we bought. It is a nice little town, not too big and not too little, and we really like it. We're happy that we are here. Daniel has friends here and loves his primary class. He begs me to have friends come over and play. Mike is still working with Halliburton and works insanely long hours. He usually works 13-18 hour days on a daily basis and we really hate that. For the past week he has been able to spend a lot of time at home which we have really enjoyed. Emily is growing and at 3 months weighs about 10 lbs. We think she is teething and she is working on getting over a cold. I am recovering from surgery and looking forward to getting better so that I can work on getting our house organized and decorated some more.
