Random Pictures

I hate to post without pictures so after the last post I took the pictures from the camera and found great ones. I forgot all about these!! Look what we found in the trash!! He's a cutie!!

This is my friend Sarah and her two little girls. Kathryn is 2.5 yrs old and cracks me up. Hannah is just 3 days older than Dougie. Thanks for visiting us!!

More to come

We've been pretty busy lately but I'm waiting for pictures to show what we've done. Since the arrival of spring we've been spending money left and right on our house. We finally got a tree for our backyard, which was bare. Travis made a little planter box for our "garden" and we've begun work on a flower bed for our backyard. I can't wait until that is done. It's going to be great. Anyways, we'll get pictures up soon.

In other matters, I'll attend a "meet the doctor" night tomorrow night to see if this doctor supports my new ideas on vaccinations. I like Douglas' current doctor just fine but he's not in the same town and I don't think he'll be as supportive. Douglas has his 6 month appointment with this doctor this Friday but if I like the new doctor then I'll cancel this Friday's appt. I'm not doing anything drastic w/ Douglas' vaccinations but I defenitely have new ideas on when I want certain ones given. I'm also stopping 2 of them until he enters Kindergarten. We'll see what the doc says.

Also, some people say they can't see the new (yellow) header. So I want to make sure people can see everything. Here's what I want to know about:
1. the new yellow blog header
2. The spinning 3-d hexagon on the right side
3. The slide show below the 3-d hexagon.

If you can't see all of these then please tell me which ones you can't see. Thanks

Nothing much

This last Tuesday was Travis' birthday. Unfortunately, he's had to work late every night this week so it wasn't celebrated too much. I feel really bad for that but he had to work. He did get a lot of what he asked for though so hopefully that made up for the little celebration. Sorry hun!

This week has been a slump one for me. I have scrapbooked a lot though b/c of a printing sale that I want to take advantage of. Here's some of what I've done. Also, the pages that are going in Douglas' actual baby's book are 8.5x11. The pages going in the general family album are 8x8. Once Douglas' baby book is filled his will become 8x8 too.

I'm not going to list credits. Just know that they are NOT my templates nor did I create any of the paper or embellishments. I just put them together. If you really want to know who did something, let me know.

Tuckered out

Douglas didn't get a nap yesterday afternoon (his fault, not mine :-) so around dinner time he just screamed. Travis and I sat down for dinner and put him in his exersauser. After a while of screaming Travis pointed out that it was quiet. We looked over in the living room and there was Douglas fast asleep. Poor kiddo was tuckered out!!
On another note, I'm all messed up with vaccinations. Here's my problem. A friend has been talking to me this last month (we go on walks several times a week and she talks about it often) about her nephew. He was just diagnosed with autism and the autism specialist believes the vaccinations had a part in it. That may sound bonkers but last month was autism awareness month and Oprah and the view had big specials on it, bringing in specialist and mothers of autistic children. The CDC has not found a link between vaccinations and autism but it hasn't been disproven either. Basically, not enough studies have been done to make the claim tht there is a connection. Several doctors and mothers swear by it though. So I went online and read somethings about the dangers of vaccinations. With mercury being in them and how it's supposedly banned now but doctors still might being using them. I'm all screwed up now. It seriously really bothers me. I'm very seriously considering stopping most of Douglas' vaccination until he is 4 or 5. It will be very different with my next child. I went to the CDC website and printed the list of vaccinations and their ingredients and which contain "thimerosal" which is 50% mercury. The list had different brands of the same vax that did NOT contain it so I'll be calling my doctor to see which they use and possibly calling to find a new doctor.
I don't want to completely stop vaccinations b/c there is a risk of contracting the diseases that they protect against, however, every 1 in 500-600 children have autism they say. I'm honestly scared of that. Ideally, I'd like to find an alternative vaccination schedule that is safer. (ex: delaying certain shots and spreading them out, etc). Has anyone heard of that or considered that? Let me know!!

Self Portrait

Laura tagged me. Her friend Emily started a blog challenge called "Self Portrait" listing 5 things you may not know about me. This was actually hard for me. Friends of mine I think know me pretty well. But it seemed fun and since I was tagged, I'll go for it.

5 Things you may NOT know about me:

1. I love step aerobics. Don't ask me to go running but I can kick butt when it comes to a step class. It can be a blast and an awesome workout.

2. I (like Sarah) am desperate for sleep. I actually get enough but I always feel so tired. I think I have a vitamin deficiency. I just LOVE naps, probably a little too much.

3. I do not like criticism. I don't even like to be told how someone else does something (UNLESS I ask). I'm thinned skinned and take it as criticism. I only appreciate criticism when it's in a learning situation, for example, when a teacher gives constructive criticism. I just have a thing for unimportant critique. Example: I'm cooking something a certain way and someone says they cook it a different way. Does it really matter how it's cooked? I know it's silly but I like the philosophy of let people do what they want. Why do we always want people to do it like we do it? I'll often ask people things b/c I want to know but things where there is no right or wrong, it agitates me. (This probably doesn't make any sense, which leads me to #4)

4. I always second (or third or fourth or fifth, etc) guess myself. I always over analyze things. During and after writing #3 I kept thinking, "People won't understand", "I should erase this", etc. However, I'm going to be strong and not erase #3, as confusing as it is and all.

5. I love impressionist art. When I was younger and visited my dad on the weekends, we'd draw/sketch together. He was pretty good. Well my interest faded during high school and it wasn't until an art appreciation class at community college that I fell in love with art, mainly impressionism. Monet, Manet, Renoir, Van Gogh, and Degas are my favorite. I wish so bad that I could do that. I've even considered art classes at the community college. Travis bought me a basic acrylic set and paint brushes last summer. I checked out some lesson type books at the library and did two paintings before Douglas was born. I really like one and the other one, I like parts of it. Of course I'd never show you because I'm self-conscious of it and as #4 says, second guess myself. A friend at church actually paints (and is good) and would be happy to teach me different brush strokes. SO hopefully this summer when Travis takes random days off, I can get her to teach me.

what the heck, I'll do a few more...

6. I'm a crazy wild type. :-) To some of you this comes as NO surprise. I'm very quiet when I meet new people. I only start to open up when the other person makes effort. I need to work on that. Anyways, once I become friends with someone, I open up alot.

7. I love to DANCE !! My nickname in high school was "Boom Boom". (That's a different story.) I love it all. What I'm most fascinated with now is Latin ballroom. So, as expected, I love "Dancing with the stars". I keep telling Travis that the key to my heart is Latin dancing. I so want to take dance lessons. Basically, I love moving my hips. Again, that will come to NO surprise to those who know me and very surprising to those who don't.

I'm going to stop here. Now it's my turn to tag people. I tag Heather, Amanda, and Melissa (Hancock and Whitehead). Tag, you're it!!!

Photo Shoot

Last Wednesday I took Douglas over to my parents house. (It was my excuse not to workout.) Anyways, I took my camera and my mom and I had a blast taking photos of him in her back and front yard. I'm amazed that Douglas took all that posing so well. He loves the outside though, so he was probably just happy to be outside. Here are our results.

This is from another day.

Laughing

It's not very good lighting but you can hear Douglas laugh pretty well. He's become so much fun. He smiles alot and will laugh alot now. He's trying to get his toes and he makes all kinds of sweet sound. He also LOVES his cereal now. When he sees it coming he kicks and his eyes light up. Travis and I love this stage that he's in. I'll try to get a cute video of that. That's it for now.
