Walking

Why am I posting so soon? I don't like going to my blog and immediately seeing poop!! (see post below) Besides, I have something way more important to share.

I know babies are born with the natural reflex to put one foot in front of the other but that goes away soon like the other natural reflexes they are born with (I read that in a book). However, Douglas is quite the champion at walking. Once he gets enough strength to support himself, he'll be up and going in no time. Travis and I are quite impressed with how all we have to do is hold his hands (to stablize him) and he knows exactly what to do with those feet. He puts one in front of the other with OUT us helping him. We are quite proud of our little one.

Curse you Zach!!

So Zach posted about his son's nasty poops, complete with pictures and all. I commented on it, and I quote, "How funny!! We've only had a few of those poop diapers. Knock on wood!!! ".

Obviously I didn't knock hard enough b/c today I was cursed. We've only had a couple poops like this in the past and they haven't been in the past couple months either. I picked Douglas up out of his exersauser and was kissing his head and I smelled poop. I thought that was a little odd b/c I was smelling it by his head. I turned him around and this is what I saw. And it was a new outfit too!! That better come out!!! (See what you have to look forward to Melissa Lloyd.)

Weekend Adventures

On Saturday we went on a train ride from Grapevine to the Fort Worth Stockyards. Douglas didn't cooperate so well on the ride there but on the ride back he was fabulous. I had never been to the Stockyards before. I was slightly disappointed. They need more tourist attractions there. Nevertheless, it was fun to do something new.

Today after church we tried out the new little swimming pool my mom bought for Douglas. We got in at 5:30 and it was pretty cold. We were surprised that Douglas seemed to enjoy it. However, we didn't stay long b/c I chickened out so Douglas and I transferred to a nice warm bath. We will try again tomorrow in the heat of the day. Church was kind of fun today. Douglas used to just sleep through church so I could stay in sacrament meeting and Relief Society. The past 2 months I've missed most of the lessons at church because I'm walking the halls with him. I thought that phase didn't start until a little later. Today in Relief Society we sat next to this baby who was born the same day as Douglas. Douglas kept reaching over trying to grab his shirt. Then I gave Douglas a chew toy and Douglas went to town on it and making loud noises at the same time. I had to leave b/c he was being so loud, I'm just glad he wasn't fussing. I miss the days where he just slept through church!! Oh well

Happy belated b-day Dougie!!

Douglas turned 6 months this past Sunday. Most of the time I think of him as my little baby but lately I've been catching glimpses of him and he seems like a little boy. He's changing so much. He can sit by himself for a while as long as there are no toys around. If there are toys he loses his balance easily, trying to grab them. He's also starting "separation anxiety". He's definitely a mama's and daddy's boy. He smiles at us all the time! However, he's stingy w/ smiles with just about everyone else. If there is someone else around he's too busy staring at them to smile. Here are some pictures from Sunday.

Our story

I love the blog challenges that Emily gives. It's so fun to see so many people take the challenge as well.

Travis and mine story isn't that unique. The first time we met was January 2002. We lived in the same apartment complex at BYU. He served his mission in Wisconsin and I had a roommate from there so they instantly became friends. We were just acquaintances. I left for the summer and when I came back in August 2002 we became better friends. He kept hanging out at our apartment and we became better friends but only friends. Actually, my roommate from Wisconsin had a crush on him. It was in November 2002 that we went on our first date. I went thinking it was just platonic. But he gave the impression during the date that he felt otherwise. I actually was a little freaked. I liked Travis and all but I thought he was too happy and upbeat. Everyone in our ward (church) called him smiles because he was so happy, generous, and smiled all the time. I thought that was a little weird, especially since I'm somewhat of a pessimist. :-( Also, Travis seemed too straight by the book, esp. in church to me; "Peter Priesthood". (I've since learned that that is not the case, although he is very faithful to which I am grateful for.)

Anyways, my roommate (the one who had a crush on him) convinced me to give him a chance. So in December 2002 we decided to give it a try. In March 2003 we said the "L" word and in April were talking about marriage. We got "officially" engaged in May and married in August 2003.

The proposal was the sweetest thing. We drove down to Texas in May 03 so he could meet my parents, ask them for permission, and "officially" propose to me. So while in Dallas we decided to go to the temple and then have a picnic. I was convinced that he was going to propose then.
When we got to the park, we ate and just hung out. I thought for sure he'd ask already but he didn't so I suggested we go. He said hold on and close my eyes. He took out his laptop from the cooler. Below is the show. What is so great is that it's so personal. We had great water fights and pranks between our apartments. He included a purple rose, b/c he knew I like them instead of red. He put how we would study together and he'd usually wind up falling asleep. Just little touches that showed effort on his part. Just so you know, the picture of the newspaper in the living room is what two roommates and I did to his apartment. Is that not awesome or what!!

Anyways, after the video, he got on his knees and said "Crystal Lynn Murdock, will you marry me?" Then we danced to our two favorite songs. Then he pulled out a dozen lavender roses for me. When we got to my house, I headed upstairs to put something in my room and when I opened my door there was about 2 dozen pink and white balloons in my room. ON my desk was a dozen different color roses and a sign that says "Crystal Lynn Hill, I love you." How sweet is he!!!

Turn up the volume!! Notice the 2nd to last slide where it talks about our future family. Read the yellow writing on the picture. :-)
